Today I continue skinning the inside of the Bass Van with 3/4" birch plywood. I begin paneling off the area around the sliding door. I'll need to find a way to work around the sliding door's top track.
Will it slide?!?!?
I talk about the status of the bass van build off. Then I order new pulleys so I can install our new US Alternator and JY Power lithium batteries.

That other item you couldn't remember on the engine was a smog pump I bet.
You might want to go to the bone yard and pull a front accessory drive off another GM v6 or v8 so you get all the bolts of many lengths and all the brackets. You also need a different water pump (reverse rotation) the belt one is standard rotation.

A compleate front accessory assembly off any 4.3 v6 from at least 90s should bolt up I'd go to salvage yard and buy whole set for next to nothing. A small block assembly may fit but can't remember
Find a S-10 or pickup much more room to work in.
Some Silverado 1500s had the same V-6 too.

I think the build off results will be easy to predict. CAF will look like a masterpiece in fabrication to a point you won't even want to fire it up but just admire it visually. EXO will look like it was designed on an Etch-a-Sketch but his Tweaked reaction when he fires it up will convince you it must be the loudest to explain why he is acting as he does. Sound Mans just needs a monitor playing his videos as he will have you laughing so hard you won't care how it sounds as long as you can hear his zinger comments. Mead will be standing off to the side just shaking his head.

Wall in the slider door. Then you can mount all of the amps on said wall and open the side door at shows to expose the amps. Would be a sick feature

I would just install the amp rack where the sliding door is and make the best use of the space. Like the RF demo vehicles.
So idea bro. Hope you see this. About your door track. You could in theory make a new arm that has a different angle. You need some tension on top to keep the door tight. But a different arm could do the trick. You may or may not have to modify the track but if anything you would take that swoop in and move it towards the outside. I know your brain can come up with something. Happy building.
Hey Doug if youâre wanting useless video ideas like how to pick your amp, you can always do an in depth break down of proper tweeter placement in an 03 Jeep Wrangler.
Split the panel in half and bond the cut line
Maybe try to fab a sliding door arm to more of a 90 degree angle so it doesnât stick out into the van as much. maybe source a couple salvage ones.
Doug is going to drive the van on a humid day and the interior is going to swell with all the MDF and explode

Wall off the slider door area with the box... Use it to Mount all the amps to.
Fabricate a rail on the roof for the sliding door so its all external when ya pop and open it.
If you have the 4.3 it's easy 4.3 5.0 and 5.7 would work just go salvage yard get the bolts brackets and accessories water pump and fan youl have to get for the year you get parts from rotation is different in 86 there was a v and serpentine combo also
Hello, I'm new here. My nephew asked me to build him a box for his car, being that I build custom furniture pieces, I told him - "sure, why not." Soooo, I watched an old video of yours (BOX BUILDING TIPS BVV#29) and didn't really notice any *tips* . . . nonetheless, I am hooked. Subscribed immediately. Now I just have to go back and watch all the old videos to understand all the jokes.
Questions for any one that can answer (remember I am a new to car audio)
1. Why *birch* plywood? Furthemore, why from Home Depot or Lowe's? Neither sell true cabinet grade sheet goods. My local HD carries a 7-ply red oak but it has de-lams all through it. I would think MDO would be a better choice for box builds.
2. If he lives in California why not throw some solar panels on the Astros' roof? Seems like a Cali thing to do.
3. The arm for the sliding door can simply be fabricated to bend upward rather than down. In simplest terms, just flip the bracket up. Can't imagine it would be too difficult to make a new arm that could hug the roof and still allow the door to function normally. Right?
I know this is a year old, but I figure I'll answer in case anyone comes across your post.
Bitch plywood cuts way, way nicer and is far less toxic than mdf. And it smells nicer and isn't as sensitive to moisture. I've always got my 3/4 birch from Lowes and other than the very edges, I've never found voids. Looks good stained/polyeurethaned too if you want to keep the wood look.

Can you lower the track and invert the arm? Just an idea, you can hide the track in the boards maybe? Might make it stronger and prevent it from rattling.

Hey Doug bend a piece of bar stock into a L and weld it onto the support bar for the sliding door so that itâs up really close to the door and then cut out the old one so that the stock slider is still in the same place... that way you wonât have to make suck a big box around it..

Why donât you just weld the sliding door onto the frame? It would add a lot of rigidity and could reduce the weight some by removing the superfluous tracks and latches.

If that engine is a 4.3, do yourself a favor and get to a salvage yard that might have an old Chevy full size truck with the same engine or a small block v8. Everything will be bolt on, and itâll save you a helluva lot of time looking for pulleys and bits to make the old accessories work with new pulleys. Look for 4.3, 5.0, 5.7 Chevy engines from 87 till the early 2000âs. The water pump is needed too, as when you convert from v belts to serpentine, the rotation of the pump changes too.
What screws do you use after you put pl on and screw the wood pieces together?

Hey Doug if you didn't know already that Cadillac CUE face mod is a motorized face and rolls up and down just so you know. Also if your able to pull it off I too like another person commented would like to see you make a video on the Cadillac mod.
Before you go too far take out the second layer of wood...drill holes in the first layer and spray foam all of the cavities

Van vlog 2,389. We are putting the subs in. We canât buy gas anymore! So I had to convert the van to electric. So now we have 2-10â R2 Fosgates. And a 25x2 amp that we can play for 10 minutes before it kills the Vans batteries!
