    I havn't seen much video's regarding the electric type or convertion to electric power vids and I must say this is the best vid I have ever seen and the best thing is I speed. I think by minimising some of the weight on te boat will rocket you speed and bring down your power consumtion and lengthen you time on the water. I think there is a hell of a future for you in this industry and best of luck forward. Maybe I will come apon a product of your design that I will enjoy using.

    I am very impressed with what you have achieved. The quality and workmanship is by far the best i have scene. Well done.
    I am a boat dealer in Australia, interestingly i specialize in RIB's, but i would love to pick your brain at some point regarding the lessons you learned to get to this point.
    I am Building a 22 foot long boat style skiff, this engine is exactly what Ive dreamed about powering it with. Also incorporating a full solar roof to charge and offer some shade from the Aussie heat. I was also thinking about a small honda genset, for the longer weekends away.
    Great job once again.

      Sure, throw a couple solar panels on the bimini to re-charge. Should only take about 3 years to get enough charge to get you around the lake again. This is not a trolling motor using a couple of 20 amp hour wheelchair batts. Seriously. That motor is sucking more juice than your entire block under acceleration and fast cruise.

As well as a battery package and diagrams to adapt to people who already own solar panels at home. Create "removable"batter sets so one is charging while the other is been used. But 240v for a sport boat application should be an option, but not the standard. Unless someone want to use their dryer cord to charge their boat..not real practical, unless you can pull into a Tesla station and charge there. But then the Catastrophic converter might blow. She'd just be getting way too too much Captain..

    Great boat and nice video! I can tell a lot of work went into it. I've been wanting to do an electric boat for years. I'm not so sure you can technically call it solar powered if the the solar system is separate? Also how do you find the curtis controllers? Have you tried tweaking many of the parameters?

    • @jltempes
      @jltempes  Před 7 lety +1

      Thanks for watching! I would encourage you to go electric! I do call it solar powered because 100% of the electricity I've ever charged it with is from my solar panels. Also, I have a 620 watt solar bimini top which can charge it directly. (See Worlds best electric boat update to see this under construction.) I got the controller from thunderstruck motors. Also check out HPEVS.com I've had to program everything to match my parameters.

So I carry 353lbs of fuel. I can cruise at 20 knots for almost 9hrs at 2800rpm. My boat weighs about 4500lbs fully loaded.

    I love it! Great job on a great project. Looks like your welder needed a couple more batteries to get good penetration on that aluminum plate. lol It appears that you are certainly smarter than me, and likely don't need the advice, but if you preheat your aluminum plate with a torch or in the oven, you'll get by with a smaller welder. Again, great job. Subscribed.

    I love this idea I'm glad it worked out great but a typical gas and does not idle at 1000 rpms and idles at about 5 to 600 RPMs anything higher than that will cause damage to the forward and reverse selector also you need to switch over to a hydraulic trim this will help you plane easier and then you can change the pitch on the engine itself the cruise better at speed

I like the idea of a pontoon boat! Lots of flat space for solar and large flat batteries. I'd use a full, in-tact Tesla car battery pack. 85 to 100 kWh. Waterproof and ready to go.
