I don't care what ANYONE SAYS : it's not the "Eddie Murphy Years", it's NOT the "Chevy Chase Years" , it's NOT the "Will Ferrell Years"...... THIS CAST (more or less) was The BEST and surpassed everything else in WRITING and ACTING ! late 1980s into early 1990s ..... BEST PERIOD of SNL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
9 thumbs up…..Okay 10 now…….Can’t believe you don’t have wayyy more thumbs up….I couldn’t agree more…..I laugh the most with this cast….
I've watched SNL since the very beginning , and the years with Dana Carvey and Phil Hartman had the most consistently funny sketches.
Absolutely . The Eddie Murphy years really sucked the MOST. @@bigrigJim
I can't stand Will Ferrell.
100% agree
I had to remind myself both Jan Hooks and Phil Hartman are no longer with us
Two incredibly amazing talents
Yep...that is so sad ...I am sure they are happy to still make us laugh.... ❤
Phil is irreplaceable. 😢😊
I agree, but Jan essentially killed herself.
Thanks for the reminder!
@@AhPhoey my pleasure 😂
oh church lady, where are you in this pandemic when we need you the most.
"So there we are, our naughty parts all engorged and tingling."
Pure Church Lady gold.
Jan Hooks deserved an Emmy for this. She was awesome.
Now isn’t that special
she deserves a DVD of all her best work on SNL
If you think this was good, check out her Bette Davis reading of the will sketch. It came out when I was a small child, but I still occasionally have to watch it because it's so freaking funny!
Your post Likes should be in the thousands.
She’s the reason this particular Church Lady sketch is so memorable.
She could do that whole ridiculous sketch without giggling or even smiling, now that's talent.
Her and Phil were pros. Let the audience laugh. Anti Jimmy Fallons.
Jan knocked it out of the park and Phil is just incredible as always.
Actually I find Phil Hartman quite credible-actually he's quite good
He was funny
R.I.P. Jan and Phil- so amazing❤
Dana Carvey, Jan Hooks and Phil Hartman. Comedy GENIUSES!!! (R.I.P. Phil and Jan)
idk Jan had died.
Phil totally owned Jim Bakker.
I am from Hickory about an hour from Charlotte. We miss Tammy, Jim is still an asshole. He's in Florida, trying to re-live his glory days!
This could not have better spoofed nor acted today. It would be spoiled by lawyers. This was pretty much accurate in details.
RIP SNL
All these years later, "demonic raisins, I rebuke you!" is still a go-to quote of mine.
It’s the reason I looked for the clip❤
I don't think people realize how much of a cultural phenomenon these Church Lady sketches were at the time. Everybody at work or school would take their stab at imitating the Church Lady's voice, trying to imitate the "well isn't that special" just perfectly. It really was a thing back then.
Haha! Me too
Omg 3 of most talented cast members ever. Rest in peace Jan Hooks and Phil Hartman.
And RiP Phil Hartman.
Two of the few people from SNL who didn't die because of drugs. Although, I guess Phil's death was indirectly caused by drugs because of his wife's cocaine addiction.
such perfect performances
@@billyc768 Regulars at Buca di Beppo restaurant in Encino, California.
RIP not only Jan Hooks but Phil Hartman.🤥🤥
When Phil and Jan were paired up on SNL in the late 80's and early 90's there skits were always really funny. They always seemed like they worked well together.
we need the church lady now !!!
Especially after the latest `•'ß¡g fat romp in the park by the ßeastmaster"♧"
Do we ever!!!!
When ever Danna carvey guest hosts he brings her back
Jan hooks and phil hartman were magic together
She was good with Nora Dunn too
I love the skit with the devil, where Hooks played defendant’s mom/“barfly.”
Dana Carvey's Church Lady one of the most iconic SNL characters 👍
Loved his GHWBush impression,too
They should've made a church lady movie.❤❤😂😂
They should make it now.❤❤😂😂
There's not enough there for a full movie, let alone a real 30-minute TV show; but they could have done a new sketch of Church Chat as an interlude or TV show inside another movie.
They tried and Carvey said no.
Jan Hooks was brilliant here.
she was always brilliant
This bit is a masterclass from the writers and these wonderful performers.
I think this was my favorite Church Chat, so accurate, the mascara shot alone was priceless. Phil Hartman was so fantastic, in everything, and Jan Hooks was also amazing. My eternal respect and Thanks to them both for so many laughs, then and now!
they were the best team ever on SNL
Epic superexecellence!
Church lady should be it's own show to combat hypocrisy & truthlessness, which has only festered unchecked without her.
. . . . could it be . .

@@aaronsmith5433 - Dana Carvey isn't doing anything, is he? Why not a Church Lady sketch again every few months? They could do it remotely, make it part of the joke?
@@CuriousGoodsJessica Do and episode with Trump and Rudi., about the phony election theft stories.
Who told you to say those evil things trump..........SATIN?
I distinctly remember that the camera accidentally caught Jan Hooks spraying her eyes with a water bottle when the skit first aired.
Jan Hooks was spot on.
She was great.
These were the best years of SNL 1986-1990.
RIP Phil Hartman and Jan Hooks 😪😪
Everyone always believes that the years they "came of age" were SNL's best.
The best the best 👍
Best years were 1975 -1980
writing then was great too
RIP Jan Hooks she was just amazing as Tammy Faye - that face and voice so perfect!!! Rip Phil Hartman he was fantastic lost too soon!
Jan Hooks voice is great imitation of Tammy Faye’s high pitched voice.
They went very light on the make-up though. 😄
Personally, I'm surprised that she didn't start singing one of her "songs"! Then, to top everything off, she could've done one of those rants on, like, Jimmy Swaggart, Jerry Falwell, and a host of other so-called "Ministers"! That would've been hilarious!!!
The running mascara bit was so damn funny because she really went on TV and did that! I miss this era of SNL.
I miss this era of PTL. It was hilarious!
Another gift from the 80's- an era that just keeps on giving!
@@JosephFrancisBurton used to watch Jim and Tammy!. He was silly. Liked Tammy
My favorite era of SNL.
She did it constantly. It seemed to have been intentional. On the other hand, she finally got all that makeup tattooed on her face, which prevented that from happening. I'm not kidding. She really did that. Later, she got very ill, and the make-up tattoo just made her look much worse.
OMG I'm dying at Jan's smeared mascara on her face HAHA!!! Phil, Jan and the rest of the old school 80's and 90's cast members were brutal HAHA!!!
Looked this up after watching Eyes of Tammy Faye.
Same Lol
Same thing. The movie was good.
Oh yeah, she was famous for crying and having mascara running down her face. She never heard about waterproof mascara!
@@Shawneetay that’s pretty funny I guess
Me too😂
The Church Lady, classic SNL... lol, "these are trying times, and everyone's tryin' something and getting caught". I'm rolling, I forgot about that zinger. I remember this episode, and it was particularly hilarious.
Jan Hooks..always and forever my fave SNL woman. RIP and thanks for the laughs : )
Her impersonation of Bette Davis is a classic.
Mine, too
♥️
Church Lady we need you. NOW!!! ⛪
The best Church Chat ever..
My favorite is the one with Dennis Hopper. But all are gold.
Jan Hook's impersonation of Tammy Faye was so good. LOL... All three in this skit were so good.
No matter how many times I watch church lady...it is always the same...within seconds I'm laughing so hard that tears are staining my face!!!! Those comedians on SNL are the best of the best!!!! No matter which evangelist they are playing....thanks so much for making me laugh when I so need to......❤❤❤
this is over the top insane comedy, impossible to top today
Jan Hooks and Phil Hartman and Dana Carvey are hilarious
RIP to Jan Hooks and Phil Hartman ( JIm and Tammy )!!!!
Jan hooks is criminally underrated as an snl cast member
Omg she was so brilliant. I miss her.
The skit of her as Bette Davis reading her own will on VHS tape is priceless!

@@bradleynoneofyourbizz5341 damn I forgot about that one. Me me me me me me. Me me me me me me. Nobody is going to convince me there was a better era of Saturday night live then roughly ‘87-‘93
Absolutely! She was a national treasure.
Her Bette Davis video will is one of the funniest things ever broadcast on TV.
No one can biblically chastise like The Church Lady.
Damn, I cant believe I forgot how amazing Jan Hooks was.
true, sadly most people under 40 have no idea who she was
I remember watching this when it was first aired and they've since cut out one tiny part: when the camera accidentally caught Tammy putting drops of the black running mascara on her face with a small bottle! You should have left it in, it was funny as hell!
I loved that version, it made it seem that Tammy was fake-crying! They took it out on the rerun, but I thought they brought it back for the next re-broadcast because people at home thought it was so funny and complained!
"Demonic raisins,, I rebuke you!"
For crapping my bottom..
Well isn’t that special
I have never forgotten that line.
Omg- Jan’s TFB description of her drug-fueled hallucinations is one of the best portions of dialogue ever written for the show-and Jan H was brilliant as TFB. But the kicker surely was this last line. I spit my food out the first time I saw this!! LMAO!!!
How conVEEEEEEEEEEEEEnient. Naughty parts all engorged and tingling.
The BEST Church Chat !!! Has to be on the list as the greatest. It just captures so brilliantly these 2 REAL ridiculous people who were just the worst. Mr. Dana Carvey, Mr. Phil Hartman, and Ms. Jan Hooks....just AMAZING 👏
"We have another payment due, pardners...we DO!!!": it's just perfect, the intonation, the grimace, the constant light crying...the acting is flawless. Jan Hooks was unbelievably good.
THE GENIUS OF JAN HOOKS‼️😂❤
“Well isn’t that special!” LOL!!! I use that line all the time.
Thank you Jan Hooks for sharing touch of your talent.
This is the kind of stuff that had me looking forward to the weekend once upon a time. Miss that stuff. glad its here for me to watch again.
This church lady sketch is the funniest one of them all!! Jan played the perfect Tammy, leaking makeup, voice and all! Thanks for the laffs! ♥
I can’t recall Jan Hooks or Phil ever breaking up in a skit. Such great pros. This was the best SNL era IMO.
he's funny! i love the expression with the pursed lips and raised eyebrow
I wish we had more of this on TV now!
Are u Crazy, R U CRAZY, they'd never let this comedic genius on air again 😂😂😂
These were the best years and cast in the history of the show.
The impressions are downright eerie and the costumes/makeup/wigs/whatever are off the charts.
"Was it Satan?"~church lady
"Now,c'mon, you humans do plenty enough on your own"~Satan
“I get the blame for a lot of stuff I don’t do”. - Satan
They really should have done that back in the day, with a cutaway to Jon Lovitz (who else?) as Old Scratch in his fiery lair, saying the line with a reverberated voice that makes it clear the the Church Lady heard it.
Jan Hocks Plays Tammy Fay Baker to the Teeeeeeeeeeeeee 😁😁😁😁 !!!!
I remember when this first aired, they accidentally cut back to Jan Hooks squirting the "mascara" on her face.
Too bad they cut that out, it actually made if funnier.
The late Phil Hartman portrayed Jim Bakker and Jimmy Swaggert on Church Chat...classic
I never get tired of watching this particular episode.
The Dennis Hopper interview was the BEST!!
First time ever seeing this snl episode and I couldn't stop laughing 🤣. What a classic!!!
Absolutely, without a doubt.. the best " churchat "! Jan Hooks is a comedic genius! As the skit moved along.. she got worse & worse.. so funny!
The Baker's characterizations are spot on.
Still missing Phil & Jan.
Love ya, Church Lady!
Jan Hooks is absolutely perfect here. I saw this when it aired, I'm sure, but watching it again right now is just as entertaining
Check out the eyes of Tammy Faye
I'm watching Eyes of Tammy Faye, and I just had to see this again!
As someone who had this exact kind of person in my family, this always makes me so happy.
Yep. Those old skits had really good stuff. Belushi, Aykroyd, Garrett Morris, WOW !!!!
Always thought PTL stood for Pass the Loot.
Pay the Lady.
Pay The Lady.
Pay The Loser or Pay The Louse?
You're spot on about that, actually. ☺️ 😎
Genius!
Happy Thanksgiving Wishes to you from Philadelphia, Pa. I am Grateful for the "Church Lady "! Made me smile during Coronavirus outbreak!
Jan was SO talented and beautiful. Phil...was just BRILLIANT. Jan as Tammy...AMAZING. Rest In Peace...Phil and Jan.🕯❤🕯
Jan and Phil. Perfect comedy duo.
Comedy talent is rare, Dana has got it, big time, unique character.
That was when SNL was really good!
OMG! Jan Hooks is spot on as Tammy Faye!
Her Tammy Faye voice is spot on!
Church Lady is still so funny all these years later!!!
"The Eyes of Tammy Faye" brought me here... 😂
Dana Carvey said faker not Baker
When he introduced them, subtle yet brutal
I remember watching this at one of the bars in Chicago when it came out in the 80s and people were losing it with laughter. Three of the most beloved and respect it actors of Saturday night live ever.
Dana is a national treasure! True story, when I was younger I attended a National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers convention in Boston. We met Manuel Noriega’s defense attorney. He said that often people ask him how he could defend the man. His response was “ Are you kidding? I felt like I was the Avon lady and Tammy Faye Baker came knocking at my door!” 🤣
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂Lmao
Noriega was on the CIA payroll when George HW Bush was head of the agency.
That’s giving some Saul Goodman vibes
Starting at about 3:50 Jan puts on the performance of a lifetime,
these three, Carvey, Jan Hooks and Phil Hartman. So brilliant!!
Oh, but they cut out the 1/2 second shot of Jan squirting the mascara on her face from a bottle,
I remember seeing that on the original airing, and noticed that they fixed it here...
After all these years, I just realized that Pearl’s organ riff for the Superiority Dance came from Manzaryk’s solo in Light My Fire!
This is by far the best comedy, ever!!!!! Thank You for posting these, love them!!!!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️.. 🤣🤣🤣🤣...
I remember watching this when it aired. I was 12 and yes I did have a church lady poster on my bedroom wall. LOL!
Jan and Phil left too soon. RIP
I remember watching this when it 1st came out!! It's still as hilarious now as it was the first time I saw it!
I love her Church Chat dance.
The music the church lady dances to at the end, it sounds like a funked up version of The Kingsmen's Louie Louie
Jan Hooks killed it as Tammy Faye. 😂
I'm sure Phil, Jan, Gilda, Chris Farley & John Belushi are putting on the best comedy shows!! And can only imagine how great the musical guest lists are!!!!!!!
People seem to believe people get into Heaven by being famous.
& here I thought that my concert going days were over! I ❤this SO much!
This thread is the most boomer I've ever seen
Lucky Stiff Motel, lol
When Church Lady is the voice of reason, you know the Bakkers’s “Christian” weirdness was completely off the scale.
I just read how Jan died and I really, really wish I hadn’t. What a horrific way to go. So many live such full lives but they are cut short..
I miss the 80",s SNL
90's SNL was good too
Me too. This was one of best ensembles. They all played off each other so well.
They acted a damn fool.... I loved when they did Jim and Tammy Baker...This is when Saturday Night Live was at It's Best Times....May these two wonderful comedians rest in peace they were two of the greats.... Would have loved to see the wonderful things they would have done today
Jan and Phil were perfect together
I saw this the night it aired. That was all we talked about at school the next day 😂😂😂😂
Brilliant ,watching from Ireland.
Jan Hooks was also hilarious as Vicki Dubcek on 3rd Rock from the Sun
7:20 “Hit it Pearl,” does the chicken lady dance! SOOOOOOO FUNNY!!!
dialog is incredible, such great writing and best performers doing it--SNL isn't this good today
It's horrible.now. unwatchable
