Yeah but didn't he take the evil girl as his lover in the book? Not exactly clean and happy sounding to me. I haven't read it but heard from someone else so I don't know for sure but it's a big reason I stopped watching around episode 4, after hearing that I couldn't look at his character the same way.
No he didn't take it the evil girl as his lover...if you read the novel, he didn't fancy that evil girl also...he just being nice to her in order to avoid others girls in Northwest..

So he avenged his family and killed those who made Gu City fall, then he killed his father (the minister Huo) who is guilty of treason.. but I don’t understand why he says that he is Huo Buyi and why he marks his name like that. I know that he is a Huo but still he killed his father because he was a traitor..
SPOILER ⚠️⚠️ Actually ling buyi is not his name. Huo wushang is the actually ML and ling buyi is is cousin, him and his cousin look so much alike when they were younger and they exchanged clothes (mainly as joke to trick huo general aka "ling buyi's" dad but because of the slaughter of the gu city only the ML aka huo wushang survived and the actual ling bu yi died) so he is actually getting revenge for his father and the huo fam but also for his aunt (which he call his mom the whole time) and his cousin ling buyi.
The "father", Ling Yi, who we all thought was his father, is actually his uncle and the one responsible for killing his real father, General Huo. Ling Yi also had a son the same age as Buyi and the cousins look very similar. The day of the massacre at Gu City, Buyi ripped his clothes and fearing that he would get into trouble, exchanged clothes with his cousin. He then witnessed the murder of his dad by his uncle. He passes out but when he wakes and walks outside, the massacre already took place. His aunt, Ling Yi's wife (the one who is crazy in the series) protected him even though her own son was killed by mistake. They escaped Gu City but it took them two years to make their way back to the capital. Once there, the aunt introduced Buyi as her and Ling Yi's son because if she didn't, Ling Yi would definitely kill the boy. She told Buyi to pretend to be the son and exact vengeance on Ling Yi when he got older. So when you see him killing his "father, that's actually his uncle. Which is why you see Buyi use his real family name of Huo and not Ling.
5 years of punishment. Really should have just gone their own separate ways, these two. Not compatible in maturity or understanding. Shao Shang's self-centered nature annoyed the crap out of me. Got to the point where I was just done cheering for them, and wanted them to just stay far, far away from each other. LBY was much better off as a solo character, and Shao Shang should have gone off to live under a rock and away from society so she can be as free as she has always wanted 🥴

I believe, Hua Chong is Ling Buyi’ uncle(his mother’brother), Ling Buyi killed Lin Yi(his father) to avenge for Hua family.
