- Join Ivy Odom, Southern Living test kitchen pro, as she visits Paul's Pastry Shop in Picayune, Mississippi, where she learns how to make a delicious homemade king cake.
Paul's Pastry Shop is the maker of the original cream cheese filling king cake. Ivy gets a behind-the-scenes lesson in how to bake one. She learns how to prepare the dough and fills the dough with cream cheese. Then she puts the baby in the cake and folds it up to bake.

As a young kid growing up, I lived for McKenzie king cake, after they closed down I wander ed from shop to shop, then I found Paul's, they were in that little building, fore they got high on the hog, moved to a new place, on down the road, go figure, never looked for a king cake again, jűs sāyīn !😎✌😎!
I love Paul’s Pastry and I loved seeing this on Instagram! I’m on CZcams now because I want to send this video to my mother Barbara Collier who is a long time customer and Picayune area resident of 45 years.
PS Ivy and Mike have some great chemistry!💖
Thank you for watching and sharing, Chris!
Paul's are my FAVORITE king cakes! Love the cream cheese and berry fillings.
Oh, man, I miss my school days in Metairie where we had king cakes every week. I would get so excited to get the baby 👶🏻 my parents, not so much 🤣
Those look SO GOOOD!!!
Mike seems like a sweet, big-hearted guy.
Those are some good looking King Cakes! I have never had Paul's King Cakes before but at some point I will try them. I lived in Louisiana for six years and my mom was born and raised there, so Louisiana is in my blood. It is that time of year again. Happy Mardis Gras y'all!
Paul’s is my favorite!! 😍 Totally one of those people that moved away and still order from Paul’s.
Paul's is the absolute BEST place to buy king cakes!!
I like to make my own, but those look delish. Got my Mardi Gras wreath on the front door and decorations about the house.
If you're in or near south Alabama, please check out MobileMask.com for parade schedules and routes, and lots of cool pics. They are also on CZcams at: TheMobileMask channel.

Hey Y’all!
OK
You need to tell the people who are watching and not familiar with King Cakes, what the baby is for. (Jesus)
What do the three colors of purple, green and gold stand for with regard to Mardi Gras and King Cakes?
Purple for royalty (Jesus is King) , green means faith, and gold represents power.
Thanks! I knew it was the baby Jesus but I didn’t know what the colors stood for. That was a subtle omission of Who this season celebrates.
I've never seen a kingcake that isn't braided.
Can you really make a King Cake in Picayune, Mississippi?
It's 30 minutes from New Orleans, and the first Mardi Gras in America was in Mobile, AL anyway...
They gots da baby, but ain't gots the dubloon n no the bean? Seem bit sketch ta me.
