      It also will not flash at the higher speed if light load is applied. Plus it’s loose at idle, hence why it’s necessary with a big duration cam.

    I have a Hughes 3k converter on a 383 making may be 480 in front of a th350. 373 rear end. It is like trying to walk a dog that wants to chase everything in front of you. If you make a decent amount if power, it will drive at that stall rating. Mine flashes at like 4500 rpm. So I cruise at 3k and nearly redline at wot. 3k stall can make your vehicle very difficult to daily. Every engine and combo will be different. Yours seems tame, lucky you haha

    Great video demonstrating rpm slipping up to its peak stall. People don't understand a well built stall convertor. They say aiming for peak stall about 500rpm lower than peak torque gives a great combo. Would be interesting if youve dynod your torque and kw lines to see how the 3000rpm compares to your peak torque. Cheers

    I e heard that the stage 4 came in a lifted truck is “to much” cam. Is that true you think. Like is it sluggish on the low end? I’m swapping a cam in my truck but it’s got a 5 speed in it so I don’t have to worry about a stall

  • @k.lamareyev4418
    @k.lamareyev4418 Před rokem +4

    Like you said big cam put your hp/ tq in a different rpm band. You always wanna run your stall for that range. Typically whatever your cam calls for. All a stall means is your converter won't convert any more energy from the flywheel past its stall limit. Quick way to see what type of stall converter you have , hold the break continously while you're in drive and floor it and while watching your rpm. Whatever rps your engine stays at will tell you what stall your converter has.

    The reason transmissions get hot with higher stall is the slipping to get to those higher rpms off the bat. I don't think that's been a big issue since the lock up converter's started gaining traction in the 90's. Before then you had to run engine rpm pretty close to the stall speed to keep transmission temp down and overdrive would be useless. One exception where a lock up would be just as bad as a non lockup would be a lot of stop and go city traffic. I've wanted to upgrade cam and converter depending if motor or transmission breaks 1st... So far I've been waiting 19yrs.

    Ran a 2500 stall in my 95 k2500 you can daily drive a stalled vehicle just up till your rpm you'll crawl up to speed. It's not that big of a deal breaker just you'll get tired of Grandma's outrunning you to get up to speed for your mpg. But in town with my 350 doing alot of racing in-between tanks of gas I'd get around 12-15 mpg in town on highway around 17-20. Just have fun and enjoy.

    It's like a CVT with gears, is the best way I describe it, it gets the engine to its power band, then the trans catches up with the engine as you accelerate, I haven't went that high in stall before, I have ran the higher stall factory converters in a truck, I could see about 1600-1800 without tire spin,until I swapped gear ratios, then it was near stock, it dropped about 200 rpm, going from 2.73's to 3.42 gears, it did light the tires with the gear change, it wasn't best with my cam for performance, but it did allow for the rough idle, I was going to get a 2400-2600, but never did, I'm on another project now, anyone needs to list all mods and weight , gear ratio, tire size, and let the converter guys pick the converter, a 3k stall shouldn't be the first mod, a stock truck engine is done around 4k-4500, about 2k for stock , or 2500 with a bit of gear, depending on weight, and use !

That's with 32" tall tires and 4.10 gears. Just swapped to a sloppy stage 2 cam, and the bigger stall at the same time. Hopefully those 2 changes complement each other. I dont like having to rev the engine super high to get the truck moving so I'm hoping the engine is not crazy in RPM at low speeds with the new converter. How abrupt is the lock-up engagement? I was hoping you would include some of the lock up engagements in the video. Once the converter locks i assume its its like "stock," is that correct?

    High stall is the cheap way ($500) to make a lifted truck quicker without regearing it. But you DESTROY your MPG because your rpms are alot higher. For a daily driver, spend the money and just swap your ring and pinion to 1-2 steps lower geared than what stock would be.... its actually better results but does costs 4 times as much without ruining your mpg as bad. Proper gears for the tire ratio will be quicker (and a little easier on your mpg) than just a high stall...But if you have a lifted/cammed hot rod? Sure. Put the stall in it. Good video though and like the build. 👍
