  • Power pumping is a breastfeeding technique that’s marketed as a sure fire way to boost milk supply by mimicking a baby’s cluster feeding pattern. I like to call it cluster pumping. It involves pumping and resting in intervals during a long chunk of time, usually an hour. There’s no agreement in when or how often it should be done. Some people see a difference with it and some don’t. Having a quality pump and the correct size flanges are essential. As always, working with a skilled ibclc lactation consultant can be beneficial to see why your supply is perceived as low and if there are any other interventions that may work better for supply. If you’re experiencing pain, nipple damage, or not seeing supply increase, STOP!!
