    Foggy and rainy here but NO snow!
    I saw a *marked* improvement in my cast last year (largely self taught) and can't wait to fish more and with more confidence this year!
    Thanks for all your great videos and tutorials!!

    Very nice editing and visual demonstration of the overall drift of the line in different water speeds. I don’t see that in other videos and thus the high praise. It would have been great to see those drone shots of the mend eliminating the forming line belly a couple times and that would be my only comment for a little improvement on the presentation. Bravo and happy new year to the crew.

    Hopefully y’all see this I just bought your starter set and have seen a lot of other videos talk about sunglasses and the polarization helping you see the fish and I was wondering what sunglasses y’all recommend?

    • @venturesflyco
      @venturesflyco  Před 6 měsíci +2

      Hey! Awesome. I (Alex) personally have some glasses from Sunski. They are reasonably priced and have a fantastic warranty. I seem to break or loose my glasses occasionally so spending $200 doesn’t make sense for me.
      But if you ask Spencer, he loves the high end sunglasses and won’t go fish without them. He’s a big Bajio guy. Loves the rose mirror lenses.
      Hope this helps!

    trying to mend the line tends to pull the dry fly under the water, what am i doing wrong to cause that and how do i prevent it from happening ?

    • @venturesflyco
      @venturesflyco  Před měsícem

      Try to left a bit more of the fly line off the water before you try to mend, and shorter casts/longer leaders helps eliminate that too.

      We mostly use our own VFC line found in our starter packs, but Scientific Anglers is usually our go-to line if we need something more specialized.

    What is aerial mending and how and why do you do it…

    • @venturesflyco
      @venturesflyco  Před 3 měsíci

      Ariel mending - you move or mend the fly line in the air right before it hits the water. Orvis has a pretty good video about it: czcams.com/video/RIzdjuJ7QJk/video.html
      Hope this helps!

    I have a question about the reels you use. You both use the VFC rod, but it does not look like either of you use the VFC reel. What reels do you use?

    • @venturesflyco
      @venturesflyco  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Alex uses our Ascent reel 99% of the time. We just switched to a different model so that’s why it might look different in videos. Spencer is a gear junkie and reviews gear for magazines so so he is always playing around with new stuff. Haha. He likes Hardy reels a lot.

    Hi,do you have to have various permits to fish these rivers like we do on English 0nes?

    • @venturesflyco
      @venturesflyco  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Nope. One license per state. So if fishing in Montana, you need one there. If fishing in Pennsylvania, a license there.

    The fly was in the fast water and the Line was in the slow water, and you mended downstream? Why? I would mend upstream. Please explain

    • @venturesflyco
      @venturesflyco  Před 7 měsíci +2

      Good question. I’ll try to explain it best I can. Haha.
      If the leader/fly are in the faster water and the fly line is in the slower water… then the fly/leader are going to be drifting faster than the fly line.
      If you made no mend, the fly line would “belly” in the upstream direction (opposite of the example we showed in the video). Simply put, the fly line would be trailing the fly/leader… which will cause drag.
      So if we want to counteract the “upstream belly” then we need to mend downstream. Then the fly line will catch up to the fly/leader and eliminate drag.
      If you did the opposite, and threw an upstream mend… it would actually make the “belly” worse and cause even more drag.
      Does that make more sense?
