Looks like it's time to call into Spotlight again! I love the giant B&W gingham and the retro print fabric you bought there. I can't wait to see that fabulous blanket made up into a coat. Back in the 80s, I had a duffle coat made from a Navajo blanket design fleece and I loved it! The colours were so rich and the style of coat suited my needs perfectly. Despite having purchase the coat at Myers, I never once saw anyone else wearing one.
The patterns you picked up brought back lots of memories too. The ruffled wedding dress in particular as I had a few dresses in a similar style way back when.

The fabric that seemed to scream, “make me into an overall mini dress” was the plaid that you bought from Spotlight. Bib pocket, braces, etc. For summer you could wear little light tops and tees, then winter match it with your roll necks! Loved the linen gingham too! Susan

You're not wrong about the gingham at spotlight. I literally stood in front of all the gingham for 30mins umming and ahhing about which colour/check size/texture. Landed on the most beautiful buttery yellow colour with the teeniest check size gingham in that crinkly texture. So excited to make a little baby dress and headband out of it!

Love your choices and esthetic. In the US we call the large check print you purchased in black and white, buffalo check, an obvious reference to the giant western mammals most at home in Montana, Wyoming and the Plains states. Thought I'd share a bit of regional wardrobe/ fabric nomenclature. 😉 Thanks for the vicarious shopping trip and your including thrifted items. I have vintage sheets and tablecloths waiting for me to pullout my machine. I can't wait to see your custom blanket coat.

Your fabric shopping videos are always lush! 😍 You are so lucky to find so much beautiful stuff. Yesterday I went to a charity shop and found an XXL man's shirt in a lovely lilac striped good quality cotton fabric, which I plan to refashion into a blouse. Nowhere near as easy as using a table cloth or sheet, but very satisfying when it works out 😁 Keep taking us with you when you go on your "op shopping" trips!

  • @maureencullen1008

Loved your fabric choices. The texture of the blanket you've bought is because of use not bobbling.I have a similar one from my parents, you can leave it as it is or, gently, brush it to give a longer, softer texture. Either way, it'll look gorgeous as a coat or bedspread.Sizes in the past were much smaller than they are now,so,a pattern from the 70's/80's in a size 10 would equate to a size 12/14 today.i love your style and I'm looking forward to your makes.

Fun finds! I just started sewing this year and use only thrifted fabric. Originally I used thrifted fabric because I was not very good. If the project came out awful, oh well, at least I learned something. I also started with thrifted garments. I cut them apart and used the fabric. Most of my supplies are thrifted. Buttons, bias tape, zippers, zippers and more zippers. I probably have too many zippers! I am so surprised how quickly the supplies accumulated. My fabric stash is almost out of control! Once I found a huge tub and half of a garbage bag of vintage patterns totalling $15. So that's in my stash too. Oh boy.

I was also in Spotlight on Saturday but in Adelaide. All I got was 1.6 metres of a stretch grey, for a maxi skirt. Hubby, however, got a ton of embroidery cotton. No, he's not into embroidery but the thread is perfect for fishing flies which he makes.

I usually just grab a box of patterns and go over to the furniture section and find a chair to sit in while I flip through them when I’m op shopping. That circle tablecloth pattern is enchanting!
You've inspired me; I got some bedsheets from Goodwill (US op shop) for $1.50 with a stripey rose pattern I've made into a dress for my girlfriend. Also got some thick pink polka dot cloth (4+ metres) for around $6.
Not brave enough to get fresh, fancy cloth yet...

You should make your matching Christmas outfits out of that amazing fabric that Matt liked too!

That's my local Spotlight and I have held fabrics up against myself and looked in that exact mirror.

The big gingham you picked is called Buffalo Plaid or Buffalo Check in the states! Can’t wait to see what you make with it :)

That round tablecloth is gorgeous! Do let us know if you do anything with it or keep as is. 😁
