The Normandy invasion required Allied control of the air. The USAAF strategic bombing campaign achieved this by crippling the Luftwaffe’s fighter force in battles over Germany before D-Day. USAAF bombers also destroyed airfields that could threaten the invasion and continued to hit them after D-Day. #DDay80

It was the defining moment of Europe. Where everything depended on the outcome and the allies push from the Normandy beach head into France and later the European heartland.
There isn't a family or relatives that didn't have someone touched by the Second World War in some way. Just like the 1st World War and those that followed up to today. Thoughts, prayers, and deepest thanks to those that gave it all, and those still here that this is never forgotten. God Bless! 🇺🇸
