  • I just bought the RJ Les Paul guitar. What a stunning guitar. This is going to get interesting! I've heard these are les paul style guitars made in the Philippines. Full review incoming. Have you heard of these guitars? Let me know in the comments!

RJ has been around ever since I can remember growing up in the Phils, mostly brick and mortar stores with their in-house (RJ) guitar brands. Mostly low end but it seems they've been stepping up their game.

Nice, thanks for that. It's a guitar brand I've never seen before. I've been doing my best to dig deeper into the origins, so any info like that is greatly appreciated and very interesting. This specific LP guitar is really well made. It sounds and plays like a high end instrument. These guitars do not seem to be distributed beyond US, Australia and Philippines. So it seems outside of those regions they are pretty rare. I'm working on a deep dive review where I'll be going inside it, giving a sound demo and giving a detailed critique of it, so stay tuned...

@appetiteforguitar Cool looking forward to your deep dive. RJ is an actual person (Ramon Jacinto) and he is a very accomplished guitar player, some sort of filipino rockstar back in the 70s. I haven't tried any of their newer models but I've always wanted to get my hands on one. Yours seem really solid, I imagine it's at least on par with most Epiphone/ PRS SE offerings. I remember frequenting one of their stores back home in the 90s.

I need to try and find some of his hits! From what I've found so far he has lived through some tumultuous times and been a success. Very interesting. It's really cool you've actually been to one of the stores! I'm a fan of a good Epi for the value they offer, and also recently bought and reviewed a PRS - PRS SE Paul's guitar. For me, that's one of the best guitars I've played for the price/quality ratio. The RJ is quite different. In terms of feel, if I close my eyes I can easily believe I'm playing a full fat big G... the weight, the neck feel, the warmth of the sound, it's all there. It sounds like I'm over enthusiastic, but the guitar is made with some cost compromises. It's not all roses.... But it does feel like holding the real deal unlike any other cheap LP style I've tried. I've found it hard to put it down so that says something in itself. I've started on the review so hopefully I'll be able to release it soon. @appetiteforguitar Cool man! Beautiful Paul's Guitar! Love that finish! I have 2 SEs as well - a Hollowbody 2 and a recently acquired Tremonti. Love the quality of SEs, great gigging guitars IMO.

I've heard great things about both those guitars! Nice one. I seem to remember there was a big deal made about a piezo pickup in some iterations of their hollowbody... pretty expensive these days I believe. I also want to get hold of a McCarty 594. Ah, so many nice PRS's...!

Don't know about the LP. The only thing I can find on their website are Fender copies/rip offs. But the basic T or S style are $99 USD. Really cheap. How much was the LP used? I'm assuming it's more new simply because of construction. From what you are saying about the feel of their guitars though I can't see how they are a bad deal.

Well, I'm still finding out about it. I literally bought it, plugged it in and posted super quick impressions at this stage. It feels really nice. I'd never heard of the brand but this seems to be quality work on the body and neck. I have briefly checked inside and the pots are mini. So the cost savings are there. Used, I got this one very cheap, less than 100USD as it needs a bit of tlc - but really it's a clean and new strings more than anything. From what I can see online they seem to go for about 200USD new... but it's early days. I've got research to do for sure! This one has a lovely low action without fret buzz and the tone is beautiful... it is definitely pretty heavy which no doubt contributes to that fat tone. It's a very interesting beast.

Not quite yet... I was referring back to the need for a wide strap 😅. Having said that, my GAS is out of control recently. I have my eye on a couple of Gibbo's so watch this space....
