    I have a tip for you. The spatulas you use for flattening your cloth. Drill holes all the way across the bottoms evenly a half an inch above the actual edge so the rosin can seep through them. That away it won't overflow like that and your not sacrificing your straight edge. That's what I did. It works amazing!!

    I used to work with a guy in the Merchant marines that didn't use gloves for mixing paints, fiberglass, etc..., etc.... we called him "shaky" His whole body has a slight tremor from nerve damage from the chemicals.

      +Jay Lawrence i live in italy, that's a resin i buy from a local diy store, it is intended for fiber glass, but you can use any brand of resin

      I'm half Italian. Both of my grandparents came over on a boat when they were two, on my mom's side, with their parents of course. Italy, nice!

    I knew some guys at work who regularly washed off grease, oil and rancid coolant with MEK they all got cancer and one lost a hand. Please wear some gloves.

    I often see folks doing this and using a vacuum pot to degass their resin, I would think that with enough clamps, this would probably become unnecessary, what say you?
    Nice video by the way, might want to incorporate a slight draft angle on your mold to facilitate easier removal.

    • @Gabrulo_knifemaking
      @Gabrulo_knifemaking  Před 6 lety

      Thanks! Vacuum the resin assure a perfect result, with no bubbles, but with micarta isn't necessary, cause if you press it enough the air will be pushed out. The vacuum chamber is useful for puoring resin, but even there you can still do it without, being careful to do not make bubbles. I follow a guy on instagram that make a lot of casting resin handles with no vacuum chamber and all are amazing! His name is storm3dknives

    • @Gabrulo_knifemaking
      @Gabrulo_knifemaking  Před 6 lety +1

      Forge Laurent are some pieces of fabric that i cut in confetti like shape, for micarta you can use any kind of fabric and the result is always something interesting!

    There is so much resin in those clamp screws did you have to cut them back off? And ouch, so much epoxy on your hands.

    At 7:06. The hammer. Is that something you made or is it a typical tool in Sardinia? I've not seen one constructed like that. I love it.

    Good ideas however the solvents you used on your hands to clean up did your body far more harm than you prevented with a resperator. The head of your bandsaw should be about 1/4" above your work. Keeps your blade more on track plus helps to keep your finger attached to your hand. Keep up your project and best of luck with your projects.

    • @Gabrulo_knifemaking
      @Gabrulo_knifemaking  Před 6 lety +1

      +Doug Corum i dismantle the bandsaw, it was shacking to hard, so i bought a little bandsaw for wood for 120 €, since i use it only for handle materials, you will see in my next video where i show how to make micarta in a clean way😂

      +Doug Corum you're right don't worry! I made so many mistakes, and from these i learn a lot, also from the people here on youtube! At first i used slippers while working😂 but now i use safe shoes with steel plate on the point, always wear anti dust mask and a leather overall

      I watch an electronics CZcamsr and though he really doesn't need them his safety shoes are what most in the States would call Flip Flops.
