  • I wish anger
did not exist. Even the wisest people
are roused to rage, which trickles into you
sweeter than honey, and inside your body
    it swells like smoke...
(Hom. Iliad, XVIII.135-39, trans. by Emily Wilson)
    music by Max Richter

this is sublime...i don't think i've seen a more terrifying and beautiful depiction of their relationship ever before. gorgeous, as always

ahhh thank you ❤️ so glad you found it terrifying, i tried to convey the uneasiness and discomfort even in comforting scenes. love is still there but it comes out all wrong, etc, etc.

This... I don't even have words. The way yyou just stripped Alicent here, showing her bare bones, her.... Gods. I. Speechless.

So beautifully done, even the poem you used is such an excellent choice (now I have to go and read the whole translation done by Emily Wilson, so thank you for the rec).
The transition at 0.38-0.40 is everything, Alicent dropping the knife and Aemond picking it up, a pure destillation of how Driftmark impacted them both going forward.
The build up, the intensity, the tragic feel that you brought out so well...
And you did such an amazing job at centering the rage (which, I think, is the theme of this edit as indicated by the poem you chose) that has been building for years and how destructive it is and how it's tearing them apart.
Crying with excitement (and rewatching and rewatching) because this is that good and because I get to see such an amazing tribute to what is probably my favourite relationship in the show.

thank you for such a thoughtful and beautiful comment! i am so glad you picked up on the transition with the dagger, i was most excited to make it since it isn't a parallel but a symbol (i love parallels and use them here, too, but i try not to include them too much without thought).
anger/rage is definitely the center theme of this video, i loved how they referred to each other as "angry" in the same episode without even knowing it.
Emily Wilson made incredible translations of both The Iliad and The Odyssey, i would definitely recommend reading them! the quote i used here is said by Achilles to his mother Thetis when he finds out about Patroclus' death (18th book always hits me especially), his realisation of what his rage brought to.
it is my favorite dynamic in a show as well! i would say every member of this family has an incredible and interesting dynamic with another, but this one has a very special place in my heart. so happy you liked the video enough to rewatch it!

@@MissNothingS Now I'm even more impressed with the quote you chose, it's so much more fitting than I thought it was.
Will definitely read Emily Wilson's Homer translations, thank you again for bringing her to my attention!
      (Off to some more rewatches!)

wow loved the way you utilised that scene of Alicent. Tbh I was NOT feeling it during the show AT ALL. I had a lot of negative thoughts towards it. But your video and the way you have interpreted it and portrayed it has opened my eyes and seen it in a new light. The poem you posted I have not read it before...but I really can visualise the rage trickling into Alicent - wave upon wave. Gosh, this is why I love vidding. The way it can transform the original material can't be disregarded. I am really looking forward to more HOTD vids from you.

      thank youuu! 💔
oh, i am so happy you could see it in a different light! it's funny, i had most of this video already made before episode six aired and i had such a bitter taste after watching their last interaction that i suddenly thought this video makes no sense. but then i kind of distanced myself from the impression and remembered why i even started it in a first place and it actually ended up fitting quite well. so i totally agree, i definitely feel that watching your videos, too! your own vision is such a crucial thing, which is so incredible, and what you bring to the material is original and always inspiring.
the lines are from the Iliad! there are so many different translations of them, this is the latest one and i find it so beautiful. i just love the idea of rage and anger as a driving force even though it's painfully destructive... i tend to draw parallels between Trojan War and the Dance because i'm clearly not normal about it haha
as always, likewise, can't wait to see what you'll make!! 💕
