Tamiya Sturmgeschütz (StuG) IV in 1/35 scale

  • This video shows my build of Tamiya's Sturmgeschütz (StuG) IV kit in 1/35 scale, including it's construction, painting, and weathering. This kit's moulds are over 40 years old but, despite this, it still goes together very well, with just some mould lines needing to be sanded down and a few ejection pin marks needing filling.
I made a mess of the weathering initially, trying to use Tamiya's black panel line accent colour which I've used semi-successfully before on other (smaller scale) models, so decided to repaint it and try something completely different instead. I'm a big fan of Andy's Hobby Headquarters channel, where he regularly uses the black and white pre-shading method, and the chipping colour mix shown in the video, combined with streaking grime products, to realistically weather his tank models. It's partly thanks to Andy that this model turned out as well as it did.
You can view photos of this and all my other models on my website www.chrissmodels.webs.com.
This video was made using the 'Create' function in Microsoft Windows 10's 'Photos' program/app.The music is called 'Rose Petals'.

I built this exact kit in 2018 also and have to say that of the three Stug IV's I built that year, the Tamiya one was my favourite. I added a metal barrel and Fruil tracks to mine as well as some zimmerit coating. It is an old kit but is very reasonably priced and I would always recommend it to anyone just starting out in the hobby. Well done on your build.

Thank you :-) Tamiya kits are great aren't they? I built this one out of the box and it still looks pretty good. It's not that long since I returned to the hobby so I'm still learning myself. I used this model to try out some new techniques and products on it and it I'm pleased with how it turned out. I have a Tamiya Tiger I in my stash with individual track links, and I bought the stick on zimmerit to go with it. Maybe I'll build it some time soon now I have a bit more experience.

3.12 You've filled between barrel and mantlet, FYI viewers... there's supposed to be a gap.
