Thanks Ian - any maintenance you suggest on that log splitter? Also can you give a quick tour of your splitting platform to help me come up with something similar?
The only “maintenance” I’ve had to do except for greasing bearings nipples/grease zircs, is replace the toothed “rack” under the main shaft. I split a whole tree of Wandoo rings which is WA’s hardest wood (15 on the Janka scale), and the ram bounced off every ring at least 3 times before even starting to split. That constant shock loading severed 3 of the teeth off the ram rack. The replacement was about $70 and it’s back to working 100%. It eats Jarrah for breakfast but Wandoo it’s not so keen on. My platform for splitting is an old computer desk with electric motorised rise and fall function. It’s handy to lower the desk to the bottom of its travel for lifting rings of wood up onto the table, then raise it back up to comfortable height to operate without bending your back. 👍
