Hard Gel Sculpts For Everyday Use

- So we’re back,
We have Andrea in today and we’re going to do gel nail extensions.
I’ve prepped Andreas’s nails without bleeding Yay and I’m going to start by removing my gloves to put the forms on because the forms will stick to my gloves. I’m then going to apply Nail Prep, Primer and then Bond Booster and I’m leaving the thumb for now.
I’m going to prep my brush with the gel and then do a slip layer of gel, so a thin layer to connect that contact area. I’ll cure that, apply the bulk of my product and then I’m going to encapsulate in clear, curing in between layers. Whilst it’s still warm, I’m going to pinch it to give it a lovely c-curve. I’m going to use clear as my base on the next nail and I prefer that so I’ll repeat on all the nails.
Once all my nails are sculpted I can file the nails and you can finish these with a design or you can just top coat them like I did because it’s already got that lovely shimmer.

This was great because I have clients asking for builder gel but I've not been trained. I'm an acrylic tech but I'm ready to learn something new for my business.
love gel nails I do them on myself. one suggestion I would make is that you can do is when you do the clear layer after cureing it you can take the form off and you won't have the accident of her hitting the nail on the lamp with the forms on. just a suggestion. I've seen it done by other nail techs.

Oh Kirsty lass, this video came at the right time! I’m trying to improve my gel game and when practicing, I managed a full sculpted set at a VERY speedy 4 hours *sarcasm* 😂😂😂😂 Acrylic stays where I put it. Gel can’t wait to get away from me 😂🤦🏼♀️ I needed this video 😂💖🙌🏻

In BC Canada all the nail salons are owned and operated by Vietnamese people, and the nails are usually powder acrylic on a tip. If you ask for gel they will charge you extra for acrylic nails with a gel topcoat. In Vancouver city it’s different but in most of the other cities it’s always acrylic.

I’d love to see more gel vids for sure! Maybe like a french or more intricate designs, I am a fan of acrylic arts and stuff but would love to learn more from hard gel, babyboom/french/cut out designs and such!
There are different viscosities of hard gel. en Vogue sculpture system is a high viscosity; which means it hardly moves on its own so you have more time to play and perfect the shape. That's what I use. I love it!! Its a little priceyer than other brands. The clear is super clear too. Great for glass nails!
CND Brisa gel is great too. Sculpting means no real filing at all

Nice! Cut the bottom of those forms off after applying and before sculpting. Once you close that form there's no need to have all that excess form hanging there. Much easier to get into the lamp then. Much more comfortable for the client and easier to hold their hand level.

Love the gels from mystic nails, have been using them for half a year now in my salon. I recommend them. 🥰. I always put a clear layer before that glitter gel. I think it's easier and the result will be good
Omg Kirsty I'd love to see you do more nails on men. Nails have thankfully been more and more gender neutral and so many guys rock simple or elaborate nails and I would love to see you do some tutorials on the basics of prepping if there are any differences, what to look for, what kind of art to do on them etc. Also, I personally hate my nails cause they fan out so much, they really do not grow straight out but on a wide angle, it makes me pretty self-conscious about my own hands so I would be curious to see if there is anything that could be done that 🧐

YAY FOR THE HARD GEL!!!!! That's what I've taught myself to use and I absolutely love it. I love an encapsulated glitter nail and you just cannot beat hard gel for its clarity. So glad you did this! 💖💖💖 It's definitely not as popular here in the US as acrylic. When people tell me they like my nails and I tell them that I do them myself, their next question is always "Oh, with acrylic?" And then I'm there trying to explain what hard gel is to people who've never heard of it 😂 Not the easiest thing to explain lol

Beautiful and manageable. We need Kirsty doing her own nails next. How is it that doing our own is such a pain in the @ss. I have to do mine in at least two day stages and days. It just takes forever and I always make myself bleed using the non dominant hand near the cuticle. Wack! Oh ffs! 🤦♀️ followed by quite a bit more swearing. Have two cuts on my right hand ring finger. Just didn’t have coordination by the end and rewacked them during the decorating portion. 😬🤬🤬🤬 I am rather new and besides the nicks to my skin they turned out pretty good. I wanted a ballerina and ended up with a rounded almond. 😢😫😆 I was worried I’d be all fumbly with my phone with the ballerina and my wrist hurts bad enough after doing my own but they’re done now for a few weeks so maybe next time for the ballerina shape. 🤷♀️
😫 I wish I weren’t allergic to gels and acrylics. All I can use nowadays is dip powder (which to be fair is nice too) but I’d love to do gel nails like these.
That’s a wee bit unusual 🤔 dip powder is just acrylic used with resin instead of monomer. It’s far more likely you’re allergic to the monomer 🤓 most people who have allergies to gel and acrylic have a HEMA allergy - you can now get HEMA-free monomers so if you still really want to do acrylics, ask your nail tech to use HEMA-free 🤓 If I were the tech, I’d try just a very small amount on a single pinky (using HEMA-free of course!) and see how it reacted after a few days or so. If you’re fine, you’re good to go 🤓💖

I bleed at the thought of a file too. No matter how well I prep, no matter how much cuticle oil or lotion I use, my fingers crack and stay dehydrated. It's terrible

I did Karate when I was a kid and we had to cut our nails. In every Class our sensei lined us up and inspected our nails, no matter how short we cut them down he always complained and told us to cut them even shorter (if we were to do as he said we would start to bleed cause we already had cut them right down to the hyponychium 😳)
