Latvian American here. I find that bread yummiest with a bit of butter or cheese, toasting is also good. So happy to see this episode!!!!
I imagine the chicken and rice "stew" would probably be pretty good mixed in with the rice pilaf stuff. All in all just looks like a solid ration.

Oh my goshhhhh much anticipated MRE again!
Fuel tabs are the easiest things to light, simply light the match and lay across the top with the tip hanging over and leave it alone. It's all about heating the compound up and moving the match around kills the heat buildup every time.

Yayyyyyyy I love these ration videos!!!! Always so interesting to see what different countries provide. Emmy, is it possible to sort of toast the bread on the little cooker that is provided? I think that bread would probably change pretty drastically if you could toast it (and add a little butter 😍😂). Interesting that they didn't provide any sugar or additives for the coffee, as some have in the past. Very fun!!!! Thank you for sharing with us ❤️
You really don't want to cook anything directly in the flame of those fuel tablets because most of them contain toxic and even carcinogenic ingredients that you don't want in your body...it's fine if the flames hit the outside of the can because you're not going to eat the can. Plus, I've heard the taste is not nice. I always consider warming the bread as well, and I guess it might fit in the bottom of the canteen, or you could wedge it higher into the canteen with the lid on and a tiny bit of water in the bottom to steam it. I think it's generally meant to be dunked in either the coffee or porridge or slathered with the jam.
Dark bread seems to be most popular in eastern Europe, but it's a taste that Americans and Japanese just don't generally have a palate for. We're used to light breads and sweet foods, including bread, so dark sour bread is just...meh, to most of us. I like it if it's fresh, but once it starts to get dry then it's less appealing; though I can eat French bread right until it turns practically into croutons.

Years ago I learned during my both U.S and Estonian military service times that a good pair of Scissors works far better then using a knife to open up Military Sustenance Rations MRE's etc.
Reason being the Scissors make for more precise non comprimising cuts where you can reuse the plastic packets to store food in or even other items in.
Emmy could easily have her own TV show. She's smart, fun, funny, witty, adorable & just all around a great person! She's so likable & lovely.
