The vast majority of cases happened in the 60s and 70s, when 100 % synthetic clothes were a trendy thing. Since synthetics can burn very fast and hot, the result isn't surprising.
Also the stuff they used to stuff chairs with was very flammable. There was a case I saw that the cops thought the son had doused his parents with gas and burned them, turned out the foam in the couch cushions was so flammable it acted like gasoline

I knew someone to took regular over the counter headache medicine and had a random severe alergic reaction that caused 3rd degree burns over their skin and muscle. It wasn't that they literally started on fire, it was a chemical process. They were in the hospital for 6 months on a burn unit and needed skin grafts and such. If I had to say if this is a real phenom I would say yes, exceedingly rare but some sort of runaway chemical reaction happens under the right conditions.

Things can be exceedingly rare but given enough time happen to some people here and there.

That’s why if you ever encounter a vampire you should immediately name all their weaknesses. Not every vamp has the same weakness, but they all have huge egos, so they’ll carelessly correct you. The hard part after that is getting another opportunity to use this knowledge. Hopefully somebody else figured out the local vamp population’s weakness before then lol

2 of the cases mentioned balls of light its possible ball lightning started the wick effect in those cases. Its super rare but can be seen the blue light going into the house and the blue flash the father saw could both be from this.
Wick effect doesnt explain the case you brought up where the woman was sitting at a table and suddenly began combusting with her relative in the room who said the flames were coming from her body not her clothes. Maybe they have such advanced cases of auto brewery syndrom that they become flamable 🤷♂️
I think the most likely internal explanation is chemicals inside their body, specifically abdomen, and blood traveling from their brain have a likely rare, chemical reaction where they generate heat, and something like stress/alcohol, or any number of things could cause the reaction to burst into flames, which is why it's from the face and abdomen Idrk though,
i remember reading something theres like this kind of govonor on the human body, the calories we eat would burn at i dont remember the tempature but a conbustable tempature instead the around the 100 degrees F the body is at, if that govonor breaks, your calories burn at combustable tempature, and then combust.
I do remember a few years ago during New Year’s Eve, my brother and my family was popping fireworks behind his house. While the next day, some strange popping noise abrupted from behind his house. It turns out that some how the bonfire had relit it’s self and cause fireworks to go off inside the bonfire it’s self. This strange occurrence happened more than once. It happened two times on news years eve.
Something similar happened when I went camping once. We had a campfire and put it out before bed. I don't know how much time passed, maybe 30 mins or an hour, but I saw the fire was relit without any of us having done so. My guess is that it wasn't properly put out the first time even if it had appeared like it was. An overlooked spark perhaps? But it was also stupidly hot out, which probably didn't help.
@@InvdrDana This is why you always thoroughly douse a fire with water. A left over hot coal or ember has enough energy to relight the fire. It can still happen if you douse the flames but aren't thorough enough, as the risidual heat will still dry out the fuel bed. Even better, if you're done with a campfire, douse it with lots of water and then cover with soil. This both removes heat from the fuel and restricts its access to oxygen. Also has the bonus side effect of creating charcoal you can take home with you!
Uh, Brew, if there had been cases of cows impromptu igniting, I think they would’ve referred to it as, “Spontaneous Bovine Combustion.” It has a nicer and more official ring to it, wouldn’t you say?

My great-grandmother, who passed away when I was young (albeit, old enough to barely remember spending time with her) was one of Washington's few "official" cases of spontaneous human combustion. She did check several of the markers for wicking, though: Alcoholic, smoker, obese, and it's believed that she got drunk and passed out while smoking, so all things considered, a pretty straight-forward case.

The intensity of the fire is not explainable either. The amount of heat it took to burn a human body almost to ash would positively take down the rest of the house. Some people believe that it wouldn't work because the fire would have gone out because it burned out all the oxygen in the room. So there's that other fact that needs to be explained as well. It takes over 3,000° the cremate of a body so how would a person be able to turn to ash like that without taking out the rest of the building?

The things that don't burn are definitely an interesting question. But to understand the "wick effect" you need only light a candle and watch it burn away to nothing. The whole candle doesn't catch on fire when lit, but the melted wax absorbed by the wick does.
I think it's telling with things like this that they never seem to happen in public places or even with family members as witnesses. It's always someone who's found afterwards.

The intensity of the fire is not explainable either. The amount of heat it took to burn a human body almost to ash would positively take down the rest of the house. Some people believe that it wouldn't work because the fire would have gone out because it burned out all the oxygen in the room. So there's that other fact that needs to be explained as well. It takes over 3,000° the cremate of a body so how would a person be able to turn to ash like that without taking out the rest of the building?

The things that don't burn are definitely an interesting question.
But to understand the "wick effect" you need only light a candle and watch it burn away to nothing. The whole candle doesn't catch on fire when lit, but the melted wax absorbed by the wick does.
I think it's telling with things like this that they never seem to happen in public places or even with family members as witnesses. It's always someone who's found afterwards.

Sure, we can gloss over the fact that if vampires existed _and_ had a sensitivity to sunlight that moonlight (literally being reflected sunlight) wouldn't be any different.
If an entity that combusts in sunlight exists, moonlight would _also_ be detrimental to them.
It's less direct than Sunlight, though. Might have less UV as a percentage too
