My wife mother lived with us and she would wake up every morning telling us her name and that she was sent to help out the community by the Bishop! When asked she was 21 years old. My wife would tell her that she 91 years old and she lived with us. She didn’t believe her. I would ask if she knew who we were. She would say I was the cook and my wife was the caretaker. When I would point to my wife do you know who she is (her daughter) she would say my mother or it would be her sister. It was sad to see someone you love lose touch with reality. She passed away this past May. My wife pampered her until her final breath at 12:15 am. It was awesome to see such love and compassion.

I wish the State of Idaho would have taken my mother's driver's license away from her. In her early 70's she started doing things like taking a left at red lights. When I said anything she became defensive. It was several years later I learned she had macular degeneration. She had also become quite deaf. I don't know who it is harder to see grow old, our parents or ourselves.

Edward reminds me so much of my parents. I moved in with my mother after my Dad passed away,( 1996).
She had been living on her own, but it was decided it would be best for her if I moved in with her. I lived with her from 1999 until she passed away in 2011. It can be difficult being a parent to ones's aging parent, but we created many memories which I would not trade for anything. I was fortunate to have been close to both my parents. I miss them, but know God willing, I will see them & other loved ones again some day. ❤

The amount of resilience it must take to see someone you love and care about not being able to remember themselves or being your parent leaves me speechless…. I have aging parents and their fragility really hits me sometimes.. may you be blessed.. your dad is wonderful. Thank you for sharing these interactions. They really put life into perspective.

Dan. You will never regret a moment of these precious days and moments spent with your precious father. Mine has been gone for 21 years. Watching you with him brings back lovely feelings. Ed may have lost some memories, but he is still himself. You still have your father and you aren't taking that fact for granted. 🌹❤️

Watching Dad close he really would benefit from a hearing aids a professional type only an exam special for only his needs,he is always not hearing you voice coul sound harsh as you have to holler so Dad can hear Way too much, he would feel more independent being able to hear the FIRST time around!! Worth a try you wouldn't have to repeat and get frustrated! Please it could make a world of difference! He ma say no to it but walk him through a trial!! Am exam will show his needs of tones missed! If money is there go for it I would .I worked for me ,,,81 no love to hear everything now goo luckillbe praying for sweet Dad keep calm and keep the Faith 💜💜💜💜

Hi Dan, I love how patient you are with your father. Your dad does amaze me, although he has confusion you can see how he processes the info you give him. His kindness and compassion remains so part of who he is. My dad had Alzheimers too, a kind man until the end. I love how good you and your wife are to him during these challenging moments. You can see how he appreciates your kindness and encourages you at the same time. Its very heart warming! Stay strong and positive. You are doing great. Wish you all the best from Ireland 🇮🇪xx❤
