  • Giessen is town in central Germany, north of Frankfurt. It’s known for the Mathematikum, a museum focused on math, with hands-on experiments. Next door, the Liebig Museum has chemistry exhibits, plus the lab of 19th-century scientist Justus von Liebig. Part of the University of Giessen, the Botanical Garden was founded in 1609 and has thousands of plant species. Northwest, Burg Gleiberg castle overlooks the town.

Lived in Giessen for almost five years, it's quite different, something one can't pick up with a Camera. I was glad when we packed our things and went back to Munich, although the capital of Bavaria isn't quite the same anymore. "Das Schönste an Gießen ist sein Bahnhof"

I haven’t been to Giessen since 2007, this was so incredibly nostalgic for me!

Thanks! I was born in Giessen to an American military family, which moved to Cambridge, UK when I was nine months old. Of course I have zero memories of those months so this was a great way to familiarize myself with my original "home town". I still have my German birth certificate from a civilian hospital in Wetzlar but, alas, Germany is 'jus sanguines' so it's of no citizenship value to me.

@@g.s.2846There are multiple issues with this comment.
      1. Does skin color or visual appearance determine nationality? No, it doesn’t.
      2. Is there an actual problem arising from people of different ethnical background being in germany, or more concretely giessen? No, not if you’re not a piece of racist trash.
      3. Are there only people from non-german ethnical background (at least judging by visuals) in this video? No, open your eyes.

Ad 1. Not always, but often. Especially in connection with their behavior and, what you cannot hear in the video, their language. If they have a German passport or not is not the criterion.
Ad 2. In Gießen in 2021 there lived 18,2% of non-German ethical background, 42% of the severe crimes were originated in people of non-German ethical . You can read it it the report of the police.
Ad 3. Look at the scenes in Seltersweg. In the later part of the video, they filmed the students' cafes. There we see different appearance and behavior.
I spent 20 years in Gießen, as a child, a pupil, 2 years as a student.
Sorry for mistakes, English is a foreign language for me.
