Woah - had this tape in 198x.....recited every word. Brilliant song.
I miss 80's alternative. Especially on 99.1WHFS in Wash.,D.C. Thank goodness for CZcams. Other great bands, Hoodoo Gurus, Bodeans, Too Much Joy, Rat Cat, etc...
Played this to death back in the day! Scouse Royalty. Thanks lads from NS where we now live not that far from the Evangeline Trail!
Man that opening strum of the guitar still makes the hair on my neck stand up
My fave guitar opener is Understanding Jane !!
I haven't heard this song for 30+ years ........love YT for being able to find these old gems
It's such a voyage of rediscovery, isn't it? Been rolling through the 80s at a leisurely pace and was looking forward to this one, like a host of Icicle Works songs, coming up.
Love this song, great vocals. Brings back good memories of Liverpool in the 80's
Great song by a great band! What I didn't expect... 0:17 a great shot of the old Eastville Stadium and the Bristol Rovers Gashead Gasometer followed by the Redcliffe Flyover!!! Nice bit of unexpected Bristol nostalgia!
I was wracking my brain as to which ground that was? 🤷♂️👍🏻
My Fav song from the 80s...bar none!
Ian and me dad was good friend back then when I was Christian Ian became my God farther not seen him in 27 years x
Any one no were he is?
Saw them play this at a recent gig and they (and the audience) absolutely nailed it.
I saw them last night 27/4/24 and they were excellent
great band from my area of liverpool
Going to see them in Leeds in 2 weeks...well,Ian and friends......not Chris and Chris
Still here in 2021...
Superb!! 😎
Great singing from Ian.
Really really special voice.
Reminds me of Julian Cope- both from Liverpool.
Brilliant...Great voice and good footage...Catchy as fook too!!
2019 and still love this. Timeless, pure and his voice is still sexy. Also I had a massive crush on him once 😂😂😂😂
Let's try to keep this professional please.
I was watching Ian McNabb solo at the Thunderbolt in Bristol couple of yrs ago. He was so wrecked he could hardly strum the guitar. When he played Evangeline, he forgot the words of the bridge. Being in the front row and singing along, I suddenly found that I was lead vocalist from "I could not believe she was gone..."! When Ian got back into the groove he looked at me & said "great singing". The man is a true legend and so was that night. God bless McNabb!
About ten years ago in Nottingham, I had the same experience, only with Living Proof from the Batman album. I've a feeling he was hammered that night too.
@@Timpriestley I can top that- in Birmingham in 2018, he sang this in a mock-Brummie accent as a 'tribute' to Ozzy Osbourne. And yes, he forgot the words then as well [or refused to sing part of them because it was 'unacceptable post Weinstein' or something, and got very belligerent about it] According to the barman, he'd been 'on it' all day since he arrived at 3pm. Worse still, the rest of the set, apart from 'Hollow Horse' 'Fire Inside My Soul' and 'Merseybeast' consisted entirely of badly-sung cover versions. Quite possibly the worst gig I've ever attended...
Good save!
I saw the lads last night in Bath ...and Ian was on top of his game... obviously he's sorted now... thank goodness.
@@NSYresearch I saw Ian and Chris support Big Country a few weeks ago in Bristol. Absolutley great to see them playing together again + they were spot on. I'd love it if they did a tour of their own- would definately be on the front row!
NB. Big Country smashed it as well.
Must check out this band more thoroughly, very cool track :-)
Check out Ian McNabbs solo career as well..
Just thinking about the same thing...
Spooky!!
What a tune..love it..there was talk of ian joining the stranglers after hugh left
Yep. Another year clicked over and still sounding great! 👍
The song Evangeline popped into my head and it took me five minutes to find this. Couldn’t remember who sang it. Thought for a few seconds Julian cope or xymox. And then wuhlah!! What a great song
Cope had Trompolene out as a single at the same time (January and February 1987) the Icicle Works had Evangeline.
I would have sworn it was by Cope
superb havent seen the video to this in years!
Amazing. I'd forgot how good this video was!!!
Wonderful..Ian had one of the best voices in pop
Martin Dytham I know! His voice goes so low sometimes it's so hard to copy! But who would dare try copy him?
oh high school days😊
I love this Evangaline, and also the one by The Band. Actually considering some of the lyrics, I could imagine The Band singing this. Still the line " A credit to the south" makes me wonder if someone wasn't taking the you know what.
Where are you all? Under 2000 views, shocking
Ricorda tanto il primo Julian Cope
Far from their best song but the pictures of the car is great.
This has a lot of Julian Cope to it.
Nice. late 80s Post Punk w/ a dash of Farfisa.
Mixture of bunnymen and Julian cope
Was this before or after Julian Cope's "Trampolene"? Because someone owes someone an apology.
ElectricLabel Much before!
Exactly the same time according to Wiki. Cope's album came out first, but the single of Trampolene came just after this. Confused, would we?
there are also some of "world shut your mouth" in it....
+ElectricLabel Don't give a shit. My daughter is called Evangeline so this works for me and her.
ElectricLabel after.
Evangeline W - GUESS WHAT MY PRIEST SAID WHEN I WAS BORN , THAT ONE DAY I WOULD MARRY A GIRL NAMED EVANGELINE
Certain Saw Doctors songs are very similar.
Anyone know who the black lady is?
Alison Limerick.
6581punk thx. I think I've heard of her music. She used to be quite good
@@6581punk Didn't know that. Really nice harmonies.
@@joannedwyer3691 she sang some amazing house music songs back in the rave days
Guess my name 😂
Dave, is it Dave??
This band is to cool to be called pop,so let's not hear it again please x
and what’s wrong with pop. I love this song and most others because they’re POP..
Isn't pop just a short word for popular?
Showing the 80's weren't all rubbish!
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! RUBBISH NOTHING THE 80’s FUCKING ROCKED👍👍👍
Best decade ever by far
Ian still capable of bringing fresh great songs out.
the remaster of this album is bloody awful
i make a habit of avoiding remasters from recent times. They compress the signal to death.
Icicle works were better than U2.
Her Music is full of Emotions.
U2 had written Songs from Shitheads for Shitheads!
Long live the Icicle Works!
Shithead here, and a fan of The Icicle works too.
Her music? What "her"?
