The issue with the powertrain is that the previous one was grossly unreliable, so hopefully that one is much improved. Still not a fan of those very small turbo engines as they have shown to have a very limited lifespan compared to NA engines.
As a technician you’re absolutely right GM doesn’t make good vehicles anymore and the small turbo charge engines are going to fail fast and they are not a good built proof design like Toyota engines.
@@ouis-xv3vp People said that about the 1.5L turbo though, and it's proven to be reliable.
They seem to be hit or miss. I’ve heard of some people having tons of issues. I’m at 100k with hardly anything that’s gone wrong.
I would like to see some actual data on that reliability/lifespan.
I had a previous one and never had any real problems with it, either.
It looks better at least, but to be fair, this literally had nowhere to go but up.
How long has it been since a compact SUV had a base price of $21K? The design is great, need some work in the rear though. Chevy did a nice job with the new Trax, IMHO.
Good looking car for the price. At least it has a real 6 speed automatic and not a CVT. Too bad they don't offer something like a 1.6 or 2.0L on the higher trims but when your buying the lowest priced small SUV offered guess you just get what you get. If someone wants better pay more and buy a different car.
Greetings from southern Ontario Canada I really enjoyed the video
Omg 3 cylinders!!! Good luck!!
We went to go look at it at nearest dealer and my wife loved it , only deal breaker was is not offered in AWD 😕
just got mine. i am scared a bit. but heres hoping. i really do like it so far.
Good luck with it! It's a good looking vehicle. My wife just bought a 3 cylinder ford escape that's got me nervous. Here's to hoping. 🍻
R u still really luving????
Just got mines and I luv it. See how it goes
Update?
Any updates?
I want to like it based on looks and price. However, I used to work for GM and know better.
The price is going to tell you everything you need to know, this is probably imported straight Outta Korea 😂😂 with a Soviet union powertrain… good luck 😂
Seriously. Just got a rid of a POS Chevy, I refuse to do it again 😂
@@juelzm149 what piece of shit chevy did you have?
Why, what do you know? Sabotage?
Made in China
Well I'll be a bit more nuanced and say despite this being a meager transport module with it's, I suspect based on GM history, anemic motor and barely tolerable levels of NVH is a departure from the ever escalating pricing model that sends some similar sized SUV/CUV's into $40k to $50k territory.
Probably good for 100k before it falls apart or the drivetrain grenades. Make sure to change the oil every 5k and baby the transmission. Great price though.
100k?? Oh, you’re far too kind Mr. Jay
I found out a long time ago "over-maintaining" a car is cheap insurance in the long run. I usually get a transmission serviced every 25K and the oil changed more frequently than recommended. I looked up the new Trax - its recommended every 7,500 miles so your 5,000 miles sounds about right.
Good ol American planned obsolescence, will get financed or fleet service lmfao. At least it seems fairly safe/solid, the standard engine across the range means parts/entire engines will be plentiful.
@@jeffmorse645 Personally, I think 5000 is good, too frequent isn’t better than not frequent enough, oil is cheap but engines aren’t
That is good advice for any car with any powertrain. It is what I do with my 2009 Toyota Corolla. Although I only have 208,000 miles on it.
Awesome, a Chevy with a three cylinder! The value of that thing can only go up!
3 cylinders are great engines.
Does anyone know the statistics regarding turbo usage, what percentage of new ICE cars are turboed?
I assume very high, making me question big embossed ''TURBO'' decals on many cars. 1:23
Have a question for all the armchair automotive engineers - why would a turbo 3 be any less reliable than a turbo 4?
If they were both offered on the Trax, the turbo 4 wouldn’t have to be pushed so severely, in particular on the highway, so it would last longer and be more reliable.
So it’s not the engine’s fault it’s being put where it doesn’t belong, but if you recognize this, as do all the armchair engineers here, they are wise to advise avoiding this car due to its ridiculously overworked engine.
@@new2000car So is a 1.5 turbo four in a much heavier Honda CRV overworked? Same principle.
@@jeffmorse645different principle. Honda engines are more expensive and better built, so it won’t be as dire of a situation. Remember, we’re talking about the Chevy trax, and the trax’s engine, and this Korean (or Mexican, wherever it’s built) is a disaster waiting to happen.
@@jeffmorse645 the new Trax weighs more than a CRV... this new2000car guy has it right. Honda are masters of small engine building and they engineer and build their engines so well that they can operate reliably for a full 250k+mile/25+year lifespan, and can also withstand modifications that increase their horsepower from stock output. They have been making 250k+ mile 4 cylinder cars for the past 30 years, and those had to survive with even less power output and 4-speed transmissions. Most American cars (though not all) are not built to as stringent of tolerances as Honda.
WHEN I win the lottery, Im gonna buy all of them, every model. every trim!
Remember folks when you think this is a “domestic brand” that these are made at GM Changwon in Korea.
And???
Letting people know that increases the value. Like finding out your VW is from Wolfsburg, or you Toyota is from Tokyo. Thank you.
@@thomasofone anddd Expect it to fall apart like jenga… Just like the other crap GM made in Korea, like the Chevy sonic, and the other poverty models they made where the engines grenaded themselves or overheated
@@JDMHaze you must drive a goober ford f150! 🤣🤣🤣
That makes me feel a little bit better since Korea makes good vehicles. But I don't think GM is one of their better brands.
Wow. Nice ! 👍😎
I saw one of these on the freeway the other day and didn’t know what it was. Maybe it was the trim, but it was really awkward from the rear. I also liked the first gen’s smaller size.
…..Soon a fixture in every Wal-Mart parking lot.
Too soon
The just slightly larger Chevy Equinox already is a fixture in every Wal-Mart parking lot where I live. Its basically replaced the Dodge Caravan of 20 years ago.
@@Trance88 Equinoxes r soooo much better looking than those goofy smelly cars
Woah looks so nice now.
I thought the Trax would be replaced by the Trailblazer. Turns out the Trax earned its revenge.
@@roberthoyt7921 wait so the name it’s just swapped with the trailblazer?
A turbo 3 cylinder and a 6 speed automatic? That doesn't seem like a recipe for long durability to me, besides being made in Korea (by Daewoo)
Had a 2015 Trax LTZ. Nasty car, many problems
No amount of corporate cheerleading can convince me to even consider this vehicle.
So corporate cheerleading typically works for you?
GM put a motorcycle engine in this one
🤣
When can we expect it?
...That'll be the Daewoo
I saw one, it's OK. But I don't trust that tiny tiny 1.3l. That motor will have tons of issues.
1.2 liter

@@Noypi54494 Made in South Korea.
@@Noypi54494you keep commenting that but it’s made in Korea not China.
NICE
Nissan maxima, tail lights lol And the lower level GM powertrain what could go wrong?
If this car had been launched in India at the same time as it was launched in South America, Chevy would not have had to leave India
Where’s the 2.0l i want the 2.0l back
Awd is whats missing. Price is lower then anything today.. most are $50,000 and up.. poor and low middle class can afford this if dealers do not inflated price.. if it last 5 yrs. It is good price low 20s
They should have gone with a new name. 😢 It’s not like the previous version had a great reputation, lol 😂 Awful engine choice 😮 and lack of all wheel 🛞 option is crazy.
especially the lack of AWD So a weenie powertrain, no AWD,, there’s nothing redeeming about this and the dealers will have the audacity to be trying to charge above market for it 😂😂 There will be some bad 20-23yr olds Lining up to take the shotgun shell to the face lol
An Inline 3??? 😂😂😂 if this isn’t a microcosm of American decline I don’t know what is..
Tell that to John Deere
@@drewsaur The small loaders and utility carts that use Deere’s Inline-3 aren’t comparable to consumer vehicles that are built to travel at highway speeds and subject to totally different usage demands.
CAFE standards are responsible for this
A lot of concern from people here. Sure, this engine is relatively new, but it is in its 4th year of widespread use, and there have not been any notable reports of defects or even casualties that some seem to be projecting here. I've been around long enough to remember people saying all the same things about 4 cylinder engines back in the day, and now we think of them as more than adequate. I've already put over 2,000 miles on my 2024 Trax in
@@drewsaur People don't know what they are talking about. Back in the days of 3 and 4 speed transmissions, 4cyl engines used to rev like crazy. But now with turbos and much better transmissions you get peak torque low in the band and probably will never get close to touching redline so high RPM use isn't even an issue anymore.
Chevy come back to indonesia please😊
You lost me at Cheverly
This car needs a larger engine.
I guess this may mean the B-Segment Trailblazer may be killed off as a result.
Nope, it is staying. This doesn't have AWD, that does.
Americans have a never ending hunger for crossovers/suvs so no, trailblazer won't be removed.
What a bummer, FWD only and no AWD option...
What’s the big deal about AWD????
@@espnluver7525 use your imagination...
I prefer fwd
@@sachinnair91 These AWD people are idiots - just more to go wrong.
Rental car lots will be lined with these abominations.
Turbocharged three cylinder - HAHH! That turbo just helps that rubberband engine move all that weight forward and nothing more! In this day and age, you get exactly what you pay for... You want passing power, long life, and reliability, start digging into your pockets to supplement that $60K+ sticker price!
Just another amoeba-blob anonymous SUV with nothing to differentiate it from any of the others.
The engine is going to fail
So I take it this vehicle is not capable of going to "point c" 😢
Too bad Chevy didn't make AWD model no more. It will be a though sell with out it.
What a shitbox GM really 1.2 ? That think better come with an under 15k price tag.
15 K is the repair tag 😂😂.. This poverty motor is definitely going to have issues.. 3cyl turbo?? good luck
@@JDMHaze A 3 cylinder can be as reliable as a 4 cylinder. If you have a 1.5L is a 3 cylinder and a 1.5L 4 cylinder, the individual cylinders in the 3 cylinder engine are going to be larger. The drawback of a 3 cylinder is they are more unbalanced so there will be a bit more vibration vs. a 4 cylinder. 3 cylinders have been around a long time. The old Geo Metros had them. The current Mitsubishi Mirage with a 3 has been really reliable. With that being said, I don't know with such a small engine with lackluster power. 1.2L with 137 hp is lousy. The Nissan Rouge has a 1.5L 3 cylinder turbo putting out 201 HP. That's Only 0.3 liters bigger putting out 64 more hp.
It really would be a fair price, 15k. They didn’t give you much, and it’ll grenade in 5 years, but you didn’t pay much either.
@@Snake-ms7sj odd cylinder Motors tend to be a little funny with the refinement, but also it’s a very small displacement, and the addition of a turbo doesn’t seem to make it better in the long run… It’s not particularly the fact it’s a three cylinder but the fact that’s coming from GM.. i’m aware that the Geo metro had a similar power train, but it wasn’t a turbo, and as I recall, it was a rebadged Suzuki Swift
@@JDMHaze Yep made by Suzuki. There was also the Chevy Sprint in the 80's made by Suzuki. They had a Sprint turbo for 1987 with an intercooled turbo 1.0L 3 cylinder putting out a whopping 70 hp and 79 ft-lb tq.
