Routers something called a MAC address that and I suspect DNS servers feed information on the consumer goods interest of a household to ad companies. This would explain why someone's wife could be shopping for silicone wedding bands and the husband receive targeted ads for those products.

That will stop some of the "re-marketing" or "re-targeting". But you can't stop google from reading your email and sending you suggestions based on order confirmation email it see in your inbox. If you want total privacy with your internet browsing, there a lot of steps you can take to get pretty close to anonymity while online such as VPN, private browsing (not saving cookies), and ad-blocker extensions.
