Owens Corning duration discoloration warranty claim

  • Owens Corning Duration, possible shingle defect. In the process of removing 2 shingles for the warranty claim process. I noticed the shingles that are darker actually have a much darker headlap granule. Not sure if it is a single defect or possibly just bad granule drop. Let me know in the comments what your thoughts are. Also if you have had a warranty claim what the outcome was?

    I can almost predict how this will go. You gather all the pictures, write up a nice letter, send it all in and they will send you some passive aggressive letter telling you good news, your shingles are within standard variation for color

    No doubt in my mind that Owens corning will take care of this for you. But I would be more concerned on why the tar strip is not lined up with the surenail strip.

    Good to see you doing this. I am getting quotes on roofing replacement right now. The roofer I wanted to go with is using this exact brand and model. A competitor mentioned the class action lawsuit against this product because it touted a 40 year warranty, the shingles lasted about 11 years. Owens Corning filed bancruptcy, sold out and, the courts ruled in OC's favor, leaving all the customers screwed. Here we are, 12 years after the fact and, you postinng this video, basically telling me OC has not improved.

      Yeah same here. Had a contractor mention this issue and the lawsuits issues with OC.

    Looks like different lots, but might be within their color specs. I'm interested in seeing how OC handles the claim. That's what I've got on my roof. I went with their highest quality shingle, ten years ago and glad I did. I'm pleased.

    I've seen a ton of new roofs being put on that I believe are OC shingles and they've all got color variances throughout the roof. There's a brand new house that the color difference makes it look like it's already had several shingles replaced. I've tried to keep an eye on what brands are being put on the houses being built around me.

    Not only different lot numbers but may be made at two different factories to be different color on the top. There is a lot number on Owens Corning that might say 13622 meaning 136th day of 2022. This is my biggest gripe as a roofing contractor and the issue starts where ever you buy them because their person just goes and grabs the first thing he see's. if I need 50 square I personally go to the company and mark which pallets I want or the closest I can find. When they hit the jobsite and their not the ones I picked their going back. Even if their a week apart I make all plans where each run goes. This actually falls on the roofing company for taking granted that someone at the supplier has somebody smart enough to care or give a flip and then the same goes with the roofing crew. It's one heck of a headache to go through but the buck stops with the owner of the company.

    I was expecting to see a delamination complaint here. It’s the only issue I’ve had with this shingle, and OC was quick to respond.

    In the installation instructions it tells you to mix up the bundles during installation to avoid this problem.

  • @justinmiller5130
    @justinmiller5130 Před rokem

    Different batch/plant and they will say it's your responsibility to sort/mix shingles. Or ensure they are all from same batch. I believe there are batch labels printed on bundles.

  • @DragonSlayer-rd4mn
    @DragonSlayer-rd4mn Před 2 lety

    Separate batches (dye lots)... I’ve toured a manufacturing facility a few times, and it’s impossible to exactly match dye batches. It seems as if this should be trackable, and OC offers one of the best warranty packages out there. They will probably cover this one for you.

  • @steviejprojecta1555
    @steviejprojecta1555 Před 2 lety

    Yeah with owens corning we always check the run numbers on the bundles, too many times we've laid a few bundles of a vastly different shingle and it can take some time to notice in the heat

  • @josea.rodriguez8780
    @josea.rodriguez8780 Před rokem

    Possibly could been made at two different lot manufactures or not at the same date/time. All the lot numbers have too match up on every single bundle for every shingle to stay the same color throughout the time from manufacture date.

    Literally Every shingle brand will have warranty stories and issues where Someone had a problem... after researching all the major brands looking for a decent shingle with good reviews, Ive come to that conclusion: like anything in this world, there will be good and poor examples of the same thing..all you can do is use ur best judgement and go from there..
