- The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is a non-profit zoo located near Powell in Liberty Township, Delaware County, Ohio, United States, north of the city of Columbus. The land lies along the eastern banks of the O'Shaughnessy Reservoir on the Scioto River, at the intersection of Riverside Drive and Powell Road. The Columbus Zoo is home to more than 7,000 animals representing over 800 species and sees over 2.3 million visitors annually. The animal exhibits are divided into regions of the world, with the zoo currently operating eight such regions. In addition the zoo owns an 18-hole golf course, known as the Safari Golf Club which encompasses 56.656 hectares (140 acres). The zoo also owns Zoombezi Bay which encompasses 9.187 hectares (22.70 acres). In total, the zoo owns 234 hectares (580 acres) of land, with 164.424 hectares (406.30 acres) dedicated to the zoo itself.
Exhibits
The Columbus Zoo is divided into regions, each housing animals from a particular region of the world. Each region is themed for the particular area of the world they are representing, though older regions are themed less than the newly constructed ones. Food and souvenir shops are located throughout the zoo, each one also themed for the region the shop is in.
There are three modes of transportation through the zoo other than walking. These include a train that circles the North America region, a tram that borders the southern part of the North America Region that takes visitors to Polar Frontier, and a boat ride around the Islands of Southeast Asia region.
Adventure Cove
Adventure Cove opened in 2020. This region contains a pool for California sea lions and harbor seals, Jack Hannah's animal encouter village, and a building with mammals and birds in it.
North America
The North America region of the Columbus Zoo is the second-largest and the oldest. In total, North America contains 15 large exhibits featuring a wetlands area and an 10,000 sq ft (930 m2) migratory songbird aviary containing over 40 species. In addition to the exhibits, the North America region contains the train ride that circles the region and travels past the open plains exhibits.
Polar Frontier
Polar Frontier opened in May 2010 as an extension of the North America region, featuring animals native to colder climates including Arctic fox and brown bears. The region also marked the return of polar bears to the zoo, whose habitat includes a 167,000 US gallons (630,000 l) pool and an underwater viewing area. The center of the exhibit includes a Conservation/Education Building and a new play area.
Asia Quest
Asia Quest opened two phases in 2006. The region is an attempt to more fully immerse visitors into the exhibits, not only building larger and more attractive exhibits, but also melding them together with the scenery. Visitors entering Asia Quest pass a waterfall flanked by two habitats, travel through a cave containing the indoor habitats, exit into a Chinese forest, and finally enter an Asia Quest aviary designed to look like an abandoned Asian garden. Instead of fences, habitats are either recessed and separated via rock walls, or on ground level and separated by the rock walls and glass.
Shores & Aquarium
The shores region is most well known for the fish and manatee aquariums, known as "Discovery Reef" and "Manatee Coast". In addition to the indoor aquariums, the shores region also features exhibits of Caribbean flamingos, American alligators, Humboldt penguins, and Aldabra giant tortoises.
Congo Expedition
The African forest region, "Congo Expedition," opened in 2000 and showcases animals from the Central African rainforest, which includes numerous primates, hooved mammals, large cats, and many birds housed in an aviary. The highlight of the region is the primate area featuring three generations of western lowland gorillas, the progeny of Colo, the first gorilla to be born in captivity in the world.
Australia and the Islands
The Australia region is located on the far west side of the zoo, lying along the east bank of the Scioto River. The "Roadhouse" nocturnal exhibit opened in November 2003, while the kangaroo walkabout, koala habitat, and Lorikeet Aviary opened in 2004. "Bob and Evelyn's Roadhouse" is an indoor nocturnal exhibit displaying animals from Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. The Roadhouse features animals including Indian crested porcupine, brown kiwi, and binturong. The final section of the Roadhouse is an indoor flight aviary displaying over twenty species of Asian and Australian birds. The regions feature habitat is the Kangaroo Walkabout exhibit, which houses red kangaroos and eastern grey kangaroos, along with sulphur-crested cockatoos.
Heart of Africa
The "Heart of Africa" region is located to the north and east of the zoo. The area encompasses 43 acres (170,000 m2) of land, and feature many African plains animals.

I'm proud of our Columbus Zoo. I volunteer there and I want to say you got some terrific shots of animals that are sometimes hard to see. You really didn't miss much, our alligator, next to the flamingos and easy to miss, our koala, tucked in a corner and also easy to miss. Also, just pass the Gorilla that exhibit you showed is an inside gorilla habitat with several more gorillas. They take turns in the yard that you saw. Inside the gorillas often interact more and are fun to watch. There are also Red River Hogs and Chimpanzees beyond the gorillas. I'm not complaining about your missing things. I'm actually very amazed of how much you did capture. I'm just mentioning them so others, who might be inspired to visit by your video, are aware of them. Oh, and BTW, you can now touch AND FEED the sting rays. GREAT JOB!!
The Columbus zoo is fantastic, so much to see. I thought I saw everything,. Thanks for your comment.
Is it true that there are monsters everywhere there in ohio
Wow.. This is just part 1 and its already very impressive and cool.
The habitats are very nice, i like the inside house/room habitats, look very original, same for the outside ones that look like background/gardens. very nice looking XD
Lots of animals i didnt saw in your others videos, that's super cool. Always in for discovering some new animals and creatures.
I think the travel in boat is not made for view animals, but it's probably here for allowing people to relax after all the walking in this giant zoo. Must say, it look super relaxing and refreshing.
I loved the otter family hahaha, see one searching around and then.. BAm !.. a whole train of otters coming up XD
That king cobra looked like a statue XD, didnt move at all and super concentrate. Too bad his flipper (or whatever its called, the thing on each side of his head) wasn't open. But i think it open them only when he is in danger or ready to attack.
The little cheetah are super cute :D
Thanks alots for this visit, can't wait for part 2./ This zoo is really something crazy and beautiful. i wish i was in America to visit this :O. i also noticed that the ambient sound is very relaxing, even with childrens and people talking, there is rarely some musics or else and only natural wild sounds.
ps : i bet this zoo must have alots of sneaky squatter squirrels XD
Thank You for your awesome comment. This zoo has so much to experience. I enjoyed everything, including the relaxing boat ride. You can bet that there are lots of sneaky squirrels all around the zoo.

Great vid this is the first zoo I seen with very little natural habitats.
It's definitely a cool zoo with lots yo see and experience. I'm glad you enjoyed the tour, be sure to watch part two as well.
Why are you saying you like it if you say there are very little natural habitats?
@@Soodlenoup3781 you mean the animal encounter village yeah and also ring tailed lemur is supposed to be in a group with other ring tailed lemurs you can't just keep one ring tailed lemur with some other lemur they would not make ring tailed ruffed lemur
I like it so far. I went there before and I saw lots of animals. 🐵🐒🦍🐺🦁🐯🐅🐆🦓🐪🐫🦏🐘🦛🦒🐣🐤🐥🐦🐧🕊🦆🦢🦚🦜🦉🐸🐊🐢🦎🐍🦕🦖🐳🐋🐬🐟🐠🐡🦈🐙
That's great 😣 I always enjoy seeing all the different animals. Glad your enjoying my tour.
Are you saying you saw Dinosaur and Whales too because you put emojis of dinosaurs and whales what and what about peacock and octopus they are not in this zoo either
Edit:Dolphins and Hippos are not in this zoo either and also are you a kid because only a kid will use that many emojis in a simple comment
yes that was real nice, hope you're having a great day....
Hey Tommy I went to the Columbus zoo on April with my dad brother and sister
I'm going this Sunday! Haven't been in 7 years
Very nice, excellent zoo to revisit. I hope you have a wonderful time 😀
My wife and enjoyed your video, you need to come at Christmas they decorate the whole zoo and you can see the polar bears.
Sounds really nice, I know from the commercials that polar bears seem love Coca-Cola. 😀
Great video! Looking forward to visiting! Does the parking lot open earlier than the zoo?
Yes, an hour prior to opening. Hope you have a great visit 😁
That sound great..
I love the mandrill in its habitat on Columbus Zoo❤️❤️❤️
The Mandril is one of my favorite primates. The colors on their faces is amazing 😊
That’s so sweet

Tommy Say hello to Haleakala She is Joy’s Daughter and She likes to greet her every time she is at the flamingo pond
The zoo looks awsome I wish I can go to Ohio and go to the zoo
At least you got to see it virtually with my tour. Thank You for watching and for your comment. I hope you get opportunity to go yourself someday.
Great to tour so far. Whats is the name of the music at 14:42?
TBO I don't know, I usually try not to have any music on my vids due to copyright issues.
He doesn't even put that music there why are you asking him
Lots of love from india
Thank You so much. I am thrilled people from other countries are enjoying my content 😊
53:18 mark is the leopard not a cheetah. Gorgeous animal. 😉
Thank you for the correction
yes that was real nice, hope you're having a great day....
I’m heading here and the wilds this summer. What do you think Is the zoos best habitat and what is their best region
I really enjoyed the Heart of Africa and the Asia sections. This us a huge property with lots to see and do. The Jack Hanna building is pretty good too. I hope you have a Blast 😁
Thank you
yes that was real nice, hope you're having a great day....
went There Today missed A'lot Of Things Though. :9
It's a larger zoo with a lot of habitats so it's easy to miss stuff. I hope you still enjoyed your visit.
Does the admission cover both the zoo and aquarium?
Yes, the aquarium is a large building.
I think they've recently added the sea lion habitat.
It was really nice, too bad the walkthrough tunnel wasn't open.
Tom they Were also Red River hogs at Congo expedition
I thought I mentioned in the vid why I couldn't see certain animals.
What kind of dogs do you have
I've got a Chihuahua, a rat terrier and a pit mix.
What zoo are you going to next
Next week's vid will be part 2 of Columbus Zoo & Aquarium. The following week will be the Akron Zoo.
Jack Hanna worked wonders with that place
I really wish I could of met him there.
You forgot the brushed tailed betong For the Woyly
There were several animals I didn't see that day.
Where are you going next?
The 2nd part of this zoo will be next week followed be Akron Zoo.
i am asking for help for the elephants at the louisville zoo in lexington ky. zoo they have no water or good greens to eat. can someone please check on them.
Shirley the best way to help those elephants is to ask to speak to a zookeeper at the zoo and mention your concerns.
Are you going to do heart of Africa at columbus zoo
Yes, next Thursday is part 2
Hey Tommy Did you know I did pixel art on the animals at the Columbus zoo
That's pretty cool 😎
Tom meet Kenya She is a serval
Such nice looking cats
Tom the cape porcupine has another Name it’s called the African Crested Porcupine
Thanks for that info Aiden
Your welcome
Wanna prevent your dog killing snakes, provide move cover for snakes on your property so they can quickly get away from your dog
There is plenty of cover for snakes, my dog gets them when they sun themselves by the pool. It's 99% of the time it's a Black Racer. I like having snakes around as they control rats but my dog thinks he's doing a good thing.
25:56 species of map turtle, not spotted turtles.
I love the Gorilla habitat tom There Were space For them To clim And why is there a cage On it
I'm guessing your referring to the Siamang habitat. Since they are on an island the cage you saw is their secured evening habitat. They have full access to it during the day.
I believe it’s actually pronounced “sigh-a-mang” rather than “si-mang”.
Thank You Simon
There’s another good zoo I think you might like and that’s the Philadelphia zoo
I'm really hoping to go to Pennsylvania next year. Thanks for the suggestion.
Where is that zoo in?
Columbus Ohio
i used to know a guy named Cow Nose Ray.
Now that is an interesting name
I miss Ohio 💔
Me Too 😕
@@TomsRoadTrippin Which state are you from?
@@faisalalan8633 I'm originally from New York but live in Florida. I miss Ohio for it's wonderful attractions.
@@TomsRoadTrippin How do you like the weather in Florida?
Missing the cold weather?
@@faisalalan8633 it's alright for the most part. Summer can be rough, it rains almost every day, usually an hour. The humidity is the worst part 😦
I’ve seen several comment replies about that this is “in you’re top 3 zoos.” What are you’re top 3 zoos?
San Diego Zoo, Columbus Zoo and Louisville Zoo.
@@TomsRoadTrippin thanks for the quick reply!
I just happened to see the notification 😊
How old are the cheetahs
I don't recall the exact age but I think 5 months.
Tom You miss the American Alligator Did You
He wasn't there during my visit, not sure why he wasn't in the habitat.
YOOOO THIS IS THE ONLY REDEEMING QUALITY OHIO HAS, no seriously tho this place is hella fun
That place has so much to enjoy, it is definitely hella fun 😁
Where’s Jack Hanna at !?
He wasn't there, it would of been great to meet him.
@@TomsRoadTrippin I just found out a few weeks ago Jack Hanna has been diagnosed with dementia. He is now living a private life no longer out in public.
@@davidwesley2525 That's a bummer, at least he left a lasting impression.
@@TomsRoadTrippin Yes He did just like the Late Steve Irwin. Steve Irwin is Australia 's Jack Hanna . And Jack Hanna is America's Steve Irwin.
🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hey Tom I gonna tell you good news and bad news, The good news is Rosie Lived A very long live and had lots of children The bad News is Rosie Died Of Old Age
While it's sad to hear if her passing, she lived to 30 years, which is a good ling age for a Black Rhino. She'll be missed by all the staff and visitors who enjoyed seeing her.
Is this a zoo or an amusement park?
It's a zoo that has an area of rides for the kids. I just show everything the zoo has to offer.
@New Jersey Adventurer Lots to see and do here
that new area at columbus is actually horribly bad
In what way? Could you elaborate please?
@@TomsRoadTrippin enclosures are VERY small. for the most part they are bad for the animals such as little to no climbing for the prehensile tailed porcupines etc, also many do not have natural substrate. as well as this the theming is kind of annoying. don't think I've ever seen a Tortoise in my kitchen before...
I do agree with you in that the habitats are small with little for them to fo. The overall design of the area is for Kids so I understand the way it looks is odd. Thanks for your comments.
I too have been to around 30 zoo's all around the 🇺🇸
@Grant Crupi I haven't visited that many zoos in the us, but I've been to loads in europe. and over here, nothing like that would have ever been built. Europe seems to be on a much higher level of exhibit design. but yes columbus is probably 2nd possibly top zoo in the us
Alright I will tell you My backstory I used to live in Burlington North Carolina So my family Moved to fort wayne
So your close to Fort Wayne Children's Zoo? That tour vid will be coming up in January.
That’s right
Tom Meet Matari He is the older Boomer Red Kangaroo
Kangaroo are awesome but can be a bit scary up close. 😳
For the Columbus zoo being so expensive they need to have way better food the last time I want it was Horrible 🤷🏽♀️
Yeah zoo food isn't usually the best quality. I try to eat before and after my visits.
The best place to get food at Columbus Zoo is the one in the heart of Africa exhibit
@@Soodlenoup3781 I will half to check that out thanks 😊
yes that was real nice, hope you're having a great day....
poor animals, all jailed in cages. so sad
Thankfully cages at zoo's are a thing of the past for the most part.
Visit Bronx zoo Henry doorley zoo Washington zoo Philadelphia zoo Cleveland metropoarks zoo Houston zoo Fort Worth zoo Maryland zoo los angels zoo and phoniex zoo
The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo vid comes out Thursday. The other zoo's are already on my list, Thanks.
Thank for answering your the only person who actually shows all the animals
@@aliciahurtado7795 I do my best to show every animal at all zoo's. There are times when any particular animal could be unavailable. I usually mention that in my tours.

Please check your comment, I only sre the word "The" I'm interested in your comment, could you update it?
Lol
Only in ohio💀💀💀💀💀💀💀
Yeah it seems Florida and Ohio have a lot in common with the strange stuff happening
Those animals look like they on drugs..jus layn around..sad
The majority of the animals sleep for a good portion of the day in the wild.
80$ for two tickets, 10$ parking, and half the park is under contruction. Empty exibits everywhere, even the little fish petting zoo was empty. A complete rip off cedar point is where you should take you family. At ceder point you pay the same amount after the free parking and less after the free drinks. If you need a zoo go to Cincinnati zoo it cost less and is a much better park. Columbus zoo needs shut down.
WOW, I'm sorry to hear you had such a lousy time. Nothing worse than going somewhere and half the place isn't open
