When I became a New York Mets' fan in 1983 I knew one day they were going to bring another world series title. Then in 1985 the Mets brought in catcher Gary Carter and finally in 86 they won it all. Their first since 69.
Big Mets fan in the 80s.. best childhood memory hands down .. ‘we had an Apt by Shea Stadium in 1986 WSOP .. and when that ball went thru Bill Buckners’ legs for the win , I kid you not it was a mini Earthquake that I experienced.. the whole city was jumping and cheering st same time , it was a magical moment 😂

- Met fans hated the Astros too, with their dreaded villain and Met nemesis or Met killer, Mike Scott. 1986 was the best year for post season baseball, period. Between the Angels and Red Sox, and Mets/Astros, and of course the WS, you got your moneys worth. Momentum kept swinging back and forth, extra innings, it was all so exciting and draining. Great year for baseball.

This video brings back a lot of memories. There were 2 teams I absolutely couldn't stand in '86 which were the Houston Astros and I hated the Boston Red Sox with a passion. I was so happy that the Mets found a way to beat each of those clubs in the Postseason to get their 1st World Title in 17 years. It's too bad this young group of players couldn't add more World Championships after '86.

It was a crazy time- Wall Street, Trump, greed, Tyson, cocaine, excess of every kind- and the ‘86 Mets (and the ‘86 Giants to a lesser extent too)- embodied it all. Yankees have had way more championship teams- but I’m not sure any NY team has ever embodied the whole metro-NYC area (gritty streets to Connecticut mansions) quite like the mid/late 80s Mets. Legends.

As a marlins fan I don’t really experience winning to often, this has nothing to do with me. My dad growing up in Miami during the 80s we had no team and the only team they were able to watch were the Mets and they used to watch them too at Bobby Maduro stadium. I loved the 1986 Mets. I remember Phillie great Mike Schmidt saying that "every game in 1987 will feel like game 7 of the World Series for the Mets", because of their behavior in 1986. To a certain extent, Schmidt was correct as the Mets didn't win any more titles.
I was mad at my mom. I said, "next time your friends at your table say that's ** Darryl Strawberry ** 2 tables away, tear a bit off your placemat and at least TRY to get me an autograph" (some ppl went over, around 5 yrs ago, LI Diner). Boy, was I jealous. Gooden was my fave, StrawMan prolly 2nd, they made that team go, talent wise. Kid and Keith were the heart and soul. Couldn't even remem which 1 was capt, then looked it up and found out they were co-captains, that's why I couldn't recall. I drove around for a few mos w/ an orange/blue sign on my hatch saying "Mets Fan on Board" w/ both tix (game 2 also - awful, like 9-3 or something but I NEVER leave any game early), and once I got back to a piece of Gum on the glass above the gm 7 ticket - Obviously a Yankee fan. I thought that was sooooo funny. Yeah, some ppl are still childish - LOL. My at game sign - I remem one yr - these are "network signs" - we design to get air coverage, it was on ABC, so they held up, "Angels beat Clemens" - guess maybe I was watching the Yanks w/ my sis or something. Mine was, "Now Beantown Cries" - which I had plenty of opportunity to hold up, didn't even see every sec of the Champ vid I bought, didn't notice it, but it could have gotten a few air shots but maybe only 1 or 2 cams, not aired on every feed. My alt. choice would have been, "Nail Boston's Coffin" which I saw someone hold up at the game later. Anyway, I had a great time, I remem 56K ppl standing/screaming and when it got to 2 strikes on Marty Barrett, I Knew Jesse Orosco's next pitch w/b the Last of the Season and a Strikeout! Wow, what a rush!!! Wouldn't even sell my stub, it's in my vault w/ some other gold Mets coin and stuff and didn't even mind getting beered by 2 clerks who fizzed each other in lieu of Champagne - I knew I was gonna get my Mets shirts after anyway & my reg clothes were getting washed. I'm not that mobile now, so 2015 would have been tuff to goto KC, and I usually only spend big for a game 7 which wasn't at Citi and that might be 2 grand StubHub, good non obstructed view/rm/air, etc, I was hoping for a 5th gm chance but of course it didn't turn out that way. Kudo's to Thor for that 1st pitch (was that gm 2 or 3), only game we won. Well, we got a great team this yr. Guess Harper only gets hit if we traded for Cole Hamels. I understand the guy's motive, but that's Never my style unprovoked, guess it was his Bob Gibson imitation, or maybe Rocket - but wait till the guy hits your team hard, no place for a "welcome, Rook" plunk. I still wanna plunk Utley, TWICE. Maybe at Old timers day now as he prolly retired to avoid a 100 mph dart from the deGrominator or Familia (I was so glad they got him back). Watch that replay in slo-mo, it's WORSE than it appears in realtime. What pissed me was he didn't get 1 day of suspension. Well what comes around....... Maybe some ballsy rook hurler the Mets dig up will give Harper a flashback this September in a tight race cause I expect the Mets to be in a heated race or in 1st then, knock wood Yo stays healthy, another great Conforto season, 2 Cys for Jake, Cano like his Yank days, etc. Tell me, who's on 1st? I know we needed to trade Bruce, and OF crowded tho he was prolly slated to try 1B, but I'm not sure Smith is up to the task for 150+ gms, even tho we have great offense elsewhere. Wanted Realmuto, but Ramos (actually, Anyone over d'Arnaud (Oh, DARN!)) is the last piece of the puzzle. Hope for a healthy staff too - Matz made every start in 2018, so hope for a likewise season. Before the start of the 1986 season, I predicted that the Mets would win 106 games, and win the whole thing. That Dwight Gooden would win the Cy Young Award and that Keith Hernandez would lead the league in game winning RBI. I think I also picked Gary Carter as MVP, but ya’ can’t be right about everything. people told me I was crazy, predicting that the Mets would win 106 games. I was off just a little. Anyway, I had a great time, I remem 56K ppl standing/screaming and when it got to 2 strikes on Marty Barrett, I Knew Jesse Orosco's next pitch w/b the Last of the Season and a Strikeout! Wow, what a rush!!!

I'm not that mobile now, so 2015 would have been tuff to goto KC, and I usually only spend big for a game 7 which wasn't at Citi and that might be 2 grand StubHub, good non obstructed view/rm/air, etc, I was hoping for a 5th gm chance but of course it didn't turn out that way. Kudo's to Thor for that 1st pitch (was that gm 2 or 3), only game we won. Well, we got a great team this yr. Guess Harper only gets hit if we traded for Cole Hamels. I still wanna plunk Utley, TWICE. Maybe at Old timers day now as he prolly retired to avoid a 100 mph dart from the deGrominator or Familia (I was so glad they got him back). Watch that replay in slo-mo, it's WORSE than it appears in realtime. What pissed me was he didn't get 1 day of suspension. Well what comes around....... Maybe some ballsy rook hurler the Mets dig up will give Harper a flashback this September in a tight race cause I expect the Mets to be in a heated race or in 1st then, knock wood Yo stays healthy, another great Conforto season, 2 Cys for Jake, Cano like his Yank days, etc. Tell me, who's on 1st? I know we needed to trade Bruce, and OF crowded tho he was prolly slated to try 1B, but I'm not sure Smith is up to the task for 150+ gms, even tho we have great offense elsewhere. Wanted Realmuto, but Ramos (actually, Anyone over d'Arnaud (Oh, DARN!)) is the last piece of the puzzle. Hope for a healthy staff too - Matz made every start in 2018, so hope for a likewise season.

That Dwight Gooden would win the Cy Young Award and that Keith Hernandez would lead the league in game winning RBI. I think I also picked Gary Carter as MVP, but ya’ can’t be right about everything. people told me I was crazy, predicting that the Mets would win 106 games. I was off just a little.
