In today's video I test drive the 2015 Ferrari 458 Spider! It seems like people are buying the Huracan and 570s so much lately. Many CZcams channels feature those cars which leaves me wondering...have people forgotten about the last mid engine naturally aspirated Ferrari??
Driving this car right after the McLaren 650s was a great comparison. While the 650s is much quicker and 'cooler' in my opinion. The 458 has a raw feel to it and I notice a much different driving experience. The car made me work for the power and smoothness a bit more, and the V8 screams!
Very hard to pick between the two cars. There is something so special feeling with the 458 that the other cars simply do not offer. If I could have both I would. Naturally aspirated engines are a dying breed, and this 458 was fantastic. I need to see more of these on CZcams being driven because it truly was a blast to drive!!

The 458 is really ahead of its time for me. It's like when it came out in 2009, smartphones weren't that popular and everyone idolizes it just by some of its pictures. I only met one in 2011 and it was like a dream. And actually the whole 458 line is still my favorite

It's my dream car. I currently drive a 16 STi. I'll get my new car spring of 2020 (wife approved). I'm thinking either a 4c (it's been called a baby Ferrari) , a 2017 Bronze GT-R, or the new C8 mid engine Corvette if affordable. But the next car after one of those will be a red 458 coupe for sure. I enjoy your videos guys, keep up the great work. :)

Great looking car! I would have a difficult time choosing between the McLaren and this Ferrari. They are both so unique. The Ferrari may be more fun to drive and the exhaust sounds awesome. Surprised at all the controls on the steering wheel. Very special cars! I think the Ferrari would be my choice in the end. Thanks for sharing these two cars Brian!
David Nilles Yeah they are both amazing. I’d probably take the McLaren because it drives like a go cart. But hard to pass up the NA V8

The 458 spider and the R8 V10 Spyder are, IMHO, the best, and most versatile, super cars out there. You can have all that turbo crap.
Would take the Ferrari at that time period in which it came out in 2009-10. But now the Mclaren’s are the ultimate driving machine now.
458 prices are still up there because of the naturally aspirated engine (last of a dying breed) and because the older country club type of buyers still prefer Ferrari over any other manufacturer, even though they’re well behind in performance and innovation when compared to Lamborghini and McLaren. Also, Ferrari’s buying process is a lot more strenuous than any other brand as well, which increases the used car market value on their vehicles. The high prices on their vehicles isn’t because they’re producing better cars than they’re competitors
How is Ferrari behind Lamborghini in terms of innovation? Ferrari has hybrid hypercar, and probably the world's best turbo engine in the 488. Not to forget 800 hp NA V12 super GTs while Aventador hasn't breached 800 hp even in special editions.
I love the 488 spider but I kinda like the 458
guys try and have a second camera foucased on the tach and speedo and edit it in at times with you and road , saying wooh does nothing 2 show actual speed

Really? I havent seen the 458 go lower then like $140k in todays market. But the California is cheap! See those for $80k all day!
@@BrosFOURRSpeed some modified 458 for track racing is around $100K. Pretty much high mileage with interior removed for racing only
Even the shitbox ones are $130-140k. Spiders are around $200k. Def not Cali territory

joseph young It’s a tough choice. I’d take the McLaren too because of the doors and power. But there I something super cool with the Ferrari that’d I’d love to have too!
@@BrosFOURRSpeed the ferrari is all about the soul and sound of the engine but the Mclaren is an experience because of the huge twin turbo whistle and intoxicating speed 👍👌

When he says there's something different I know exactly what he's talking about.as a Lamborghini guy and also a McLaren guy my first McLaren I received after I sold my Lamborghini supervolachi roadster which I'm sorry I did. I saw the McLaren 720 ass whipping the Lamborghini in a drag race and got butt hurt and sold my Lambo for the McLaren. Big big big mistake as I matured I realized speed is not everything The Lamborghini sounds like you're in a missile and you're going through a brick wall with explosions and back you as you up and downshift. Nothing and I mean nothing compares to a naturally aspirated engine. The orange McLaren in this photo not the one with the carbon hood that's my latest ride. But the one in the video and in the other pictures the one that is not a spider. I traded my roadster Lamborghini SV for that. While it was a lot faster than the Lamborghini it was quite boring. I've got used to the McLaren it can be fun at high speeds but it will never match the excitement of even my performante when I drive it just something about downshifting a 10 cylinder and up shifting nothing beats it.In fact in your mind you feel like you're driving faster than the McLaren because of the sound even though you're not.In the McLaren you get to 100 so fast but you don't realize you're doing it again it's not as exciting

I definitely agree with you! I've driven a few McLarens and I just don't get excited with them. The doors are cool and so is the power, but they seem dull. I'm a Lambo fan and low the laugh they are! So much fun! And this 458 was just like that! I do have a video coming this next week driving another Huracan!
If I had to choose I'd go with this car although both are nice but I'm like you, there's something special about this ride! Which one rides better on open highway in your opinion? Based on my opinion, when you merged onto I 77 ( I assume ) haha... it seemed like the Ferrari would handle slightly better but that's just me, I've never been in either.
kbw1970 both seemed similar when cruising. Slightly smoother in the Ferrari since it’s not a carbon tub. But I liked the driver position slightly better in the McLaren. You really feel like you’re cradled in a race car
Oh ok. Seems like a good toss up between the two being that the Ferrari is so much more expensive. It would be really cool to see a video of you taking either one or both out on the track, that's if you would have time.
kbw1970 I’d love to hit the tack with them! Lol. Before I drove them back to back, my vote was towards the McLaren because it’s ‘cooler’ and cheaper. But I can see the value in the Ferrari. Both amazing cars.

We'll see about values. Around the $150k mark now. So they are getting cheaper. But a very fun car overall!
I never understand why people drive with the side windows up with the top down , what’s the point ?,
I don’t like people looking at me but like the sun shining on my head. I also appreciate the wind deflection with side windows up.

People just don't understand if they never drove one of these older naturally aspirated engine cars. Intangibles of Lamborghinis and Ferrari natural aspirated engines cannot be beaten. I currently have a McLaren 720S spider and I love the car don't get me wrong. But my Lamborghini performante is loads more fun to drive. And I just purchased a 458 spider this will be my first spider can't wait to get my hands on it. I could not give a rat's ass of speed.what fun is it to go 0 to 60 and 1 second and a quarter mile and 5 seconds if there's no sound and it's all electric how boring is that??
SO true!! All out speed inst much to be honest. Anyone can take a fast car in a line or around a track quickly. But it's more fun to have the drama that a car like this has!

@@BrosFOURRSpeed I had a Lamborghini performante and McLaren 720S spider before the pandemic sold them both I miss the performante for the sound unbelievable self.since then I have purchased it McLaren spider again while it's fun it does not sound as good as the performante prior to that I had a Lamborghini SV that I traded for a 720S sorry I did it.I was impressed with the speed because I saw the Lamborghini losing in a straight line drag race to the McLaren. Now I know better lol.this is the spec that I purchased and I'll send you some pics of my other cars.

@@BrosFOURRSpeed the first orange McLaren coupe was my first McLaren I like it but it does not compare to the drama and sound of a Lamborghini. My current 720 is a nice ride. I like it starting to grow on me, but it's still not as exciting as the naturally aspirated engine.I am sure I'm going to drive the 458 and enjoy it more. By the way it was your video of the 458 experience that compelled me to finally make decision to buy one thanks!!
