Listening to it in 2024
You know I keep thinking she’s there with a queen size bed. She’s not here it’s really disturbing to my mind. I swear to God she’s here.
@scottculli7851 I believe you, whatever level of anything. my own...
i love 'woo' physical or not. how do you feel. about any, if you care to jot any.
It's 2023 and this song still kicks ass.
yes!
Absolutely!
Was lucky enough to see CH last night -- they played it along with two other Enz songs. I lost my shit.
this has a 70s feel
released 1980
I saw Crowded House perform this song and a few other Split Enz tunes during their show last night in Toronto. Still kicks ass.
Can I get all the Real O.G's to give this beat a thumbs up in 2024?!!
🎉✊👆👍
This song is timeless. A classic. Has it been 43 years? Incredible.
I'll be 50 in 2 weeks, this song still rewlz
Incredible indeed! Where the hell does the time go? !
Remember them getting five vids a night on Mtv? Now Those were the days.
The '80s had the best of everything! I wanna go back!
Still lovin' this song 💓
Yeah, if I'd realized how awesome the 80s were when I was there, I never would have left!
If I had a Time Machine, I’d pick you up on my way
Me too!
All you need is a DeLorean.
‘75 to ‘85 was an insanely great decade of music.
1000% correct. 1978-82 is my favourite period for popular music.
You’re right. Music started to go downhill in 1987
Probably 1977 was the best music year
One of my favorite songs from high school. It sounded great in 1980, and still sounds great today.
I concur...memories of the chicks dancing up a storm to this one at the high school dance.
This was my favorite one in junior high.
Just added this spectacular song to my play list for my dance party with my 4 year old granddaughter. What a song! Our time ruled people!!!! Best music.....63 here and rocking till I drop!
59 here and I tell the young is I’m happy I was born in 1964 because I got to experience Post Punk and New Wave ❤❤ for starters!! I love all genres of music almost anyway!!!!!
Que tu nieta sepa lo que era está música!!😊
Hell yeahhhhh! What a classic masterpiece. How could you not like this band . Iconic tunes, ground breaking synthesizers, beat is old but new . Could listen to this on repeat . Sorry Selena Gomez , Justin Bieber, and Swifties, you can’t touch these oldies
It was actual talent
Can i have a show of hands if you're still listening to this in 2020
Will always listen
That's because we grew up in a generation of great music! MTV was MTV and being a teen in the 80's was above and beyond fan-fucking-tastic!!
To this day, I still see trails! 😉
✋🏼
@@antneyfatts665 I grew up in the 60's and I love this song & the video
🙋🏻♀️ one of my favourite songs ever
Never knew the name of this song until now, so glad I decided to search 80s songs today, more gems than any other decade
Admittedly, I did not know the song either, I had asked the CZcams folks when I posted it!
70s.
“Faded Flowers” 1985? by “Shriekback”
a lesser known Brit band. Cool song. It’s part of the soundtrack to “Band of the Hand” 1986 movie, a cult classic.
The 1980’s what a great time to be young and alive!!
Amen I was 15 then with life ahead of me. God what happened?
I was between 15 and 25 years old then.... A great decade!
@@MM-zs7ir Diggit!✊😎 graduated H.S. in '84 & although I MAY be biased_ it's STILL the best, most eclectic, diverse decade of music! ✊😏👉 _💙&🎵_
It most certainly was a great time! I graduated HS in 1980 and the world was my oyster! Still is......music was so good back in the 60's, 70's and some of 80's for sure!
The 80's had their ups and downs. It wasn't perfect. I think of all the good times and forget the bad, but I would give my left nut to go back in time to relive it all over again. Journey, REO Speedwagon, British Steel, British Invasion, RUSH, ACDC, the list is extensive. Today there seem to be fewer artists with any quality and talent. Too many samplers. Too man Autotune crap.
Still bopping in 2023...hands up if you are!
This song is over 40 years old but still sounds fresh as a daisy. The two finn brothers went on to form crowded house.😍😍
Only Neil Finn did. Tim went his own way.
I stand corrected thanks.
Thanks for info❤
WHAT!! I did not know both brothers went onto crowded house.......darn! I have their cassette :)
These guys were waaaaaaaaaaaaay ahead of their time. Early New Wave to the max.
2023
@@TaigaTurf I would say this sounds the very epitome of 1979-80 new wave pop. Sparse arrangement with an almost 60s vibe.
@@TaigaTurf Accidents Will Happen by Elvis Costello, Let's Go by The Cars, Treason by The Teardrop Explodes, Reward by The Teardrop Explodes, or many other tracks on Split Enz's True Colours album, Up The Junction by Squeeze, or Another Nail In My Heart by Squeeze.
@@TaigaTurf Glad to help. This era of music is my favourite, 1978-1982.
This takes me back to being 17yo. I had this album, it was laser etched. Hard to believe it was 40 years ago... I just turned 60yo. An incredible era for music!
I'm the same - just turned 60 and this was the first album I bought on CD - I've still got it and love it!
Fair play pal..you were there to experience it all
67 here, brings back a lot of memories
... turning 64 later this year, of course I still have the laser etched version of "True Colours", although at first I considered the album a bit more mainstreamed than their wonderful and weird two records before ("Mental Notes" and "Dizrytmia"). Looking back they just added a touch of 'New Wave' to their sounds and 'Poor Boy' is still an eternal fave of mine.
Yes sir, had the 45!
'I Want My 80s' tv show brought me here! Great song! 🕺
About once or twice a year I go through a Split Enz period and have to listen to this and Six Months in a Leaky boat incessantly. Both songs are on my death list that I want my kids to listen to when I pass to remember me by. Thank you Split Enz for making such fantastic and memorable music ❤️
Six monthes in a leaky Boat! Plus Boomtown rats!
This song should be released again it would still do good on the charts
What charts??
@@m.e.d.7997 I agree with you both. Charts kinda have no meaning anymore. But lets just way it would become an earworm to the public for a few months.
I played the hell out of this record. Still sounds great 2022!
And in 2023 😌🫶

february 2024. no regrets.
I’m 39. And I only heard this song for the first time last year while watching mtv classic. Since then I’ve gone down a really deep rabbit hole. I wish I would have gotten into the Enz earlier in life, but as the old saying goes, “better late than never”. These guys were geniuses , and if the internet had been around back in the 70s and 80s, they would have easily been one of the biggest bands ever.
if you like split enz....then give Squeeze a listen.
I had a best of compilation and for a couple of years I thought it half-unlistenable. Then it finally clicked and I "got" it.
Neil was sooo cute back then ... and Split Enz one of my all time favourite bands since 1976!
Yes!!!! Darn handsome!!!!!!!!!+
I can't believe this is 40 years old it sounds/feels more fresh and modern and is so much better than much of the popular music today.
so true, John! I hate to sound like a grumpy old nerd, but back then they were "songs" and not some kind of assembled noises over broken beats. Let's be happy about the fact, we grew up and lived in a 'golden era' concerning popular music.
Yep, I'm older the song😂
Of course it does....
43 years old. Released 1980.
I love this song. One of the greatest and happiest years of my life.
2024!!!🖤💚 my wonderful father showed me this on the teenage kicks album.
Once you hear this song it’s in your head all day long .. you can’t stop singing it .. mega tune
takes you back to a better time, a better world, nostalgia at it's best, those damn 80s.
These guys must have come from the future. There is a flat screen tv hanging on the wall.
Sooo ahead of their time!!!
This song is mesmerising & is TRUE!! A lot of times. I luv it! I am 56 yrs. Old, I remember this song!!
Every summer I'd come to Miami for summer vacation my mom lived here, the year this song came was 1980, I met this girl at the beach and fell in love lol, I graduated in 81 so I moved to Miami with my mother and said goodbye Philadelphia, first thing I did was looked Jennifer up and we started going out and we are still together till this day! I Got You And That's All I Want....
♡ !
congrats! ken bray
It's cause you're a Bray!
Steve Bray Hey what's up Bray? We are many lol, Irish and love my Ansestory.... SLANCHEA means cheers in Irish 😜
Ken that's wicked cool take it from a guy that's had more girls than 10 guys have the right to. For one Awesome one I'd trade. So good on you and good for you brother. I sincerely wish you the best of luck!!
I was 18 when this song hit. 80s were an amazing tom in America. How many great songs, and you can understand the lyrics.
I was 13 years old 😊
Immediate 80’s flashback. Good stuff.
Man,, I was 3 when this came out… unbelievable..
I love it because that’s all I heard playing from the attic with my older brothers.
Incredible memory nothing but the best music in my house across-the-board.
1977! I wouldn’t change a thing.
So here I am again listening to this amongst every other Fantastically brilliant 80’s tunes x awesome!😍😍😍😍
funny how growing up in this era u love and enjoy all these songs, then many yrs later u find them again and ur instantly shot back into that time, and u remember all the damn words,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, its a wonderful feeling and sad all at the same time
So True! :)
My sentiments exactly
this happened to be on the radio when I got in my car yesterday and I instantly remembered ALL the words, even though I haven't heard it in 25 years at least!
Reminds me of MTV in the good ol'days. This song also reminds me of the music from movie "That Thing You Do " Love this sound !
Melencoly ass hell
Great Musical masterpiece !
Never tired to listen !
Bought this as a single in 1980 with my pocket money! The song is still awesome.
7.2m people wished they were back in 1980..
I certainly do!
I know I do. I was 16.
TONE 007 u got that right
Yeap! I was 5. Lol
Yea. I was 12
Totally underrated best song ever
A Crowded House video popped up in my feed, I thought to myself that I really liked Split Enz too...searched...arrived here...been at least 20 years since I heard this...still know every single word ! 16 years old when this came out, what a time to be alive...16 in 1980 ...started working at 14...bought my own HUGE Pioneer boom box...best one Pioneer made at the time...bought it at Pacific Stereo of all places 😂
I’m 45 and am happy as shit that I grew up in the 80’s. Absolute banger of a tune.😮😮😮😮
I'm so proud that my ears have growned up listening to awesome music like this gem of a song!
2023 and beyond baby!!🤙🤙🤙
This is da real deal. 1980 must've really rocked!!
*****
I was almost 9 years old when this first came out. But I remember it getting heavy radio play throughout most of the 80s and early 90s. The song is that good.
We Did!!!!!
1980, duel edged sword for me. I graduated from high school, however; I met my first wife that last year in school. The rest of '80 was pretty great with 4 mostly shitty years following. I did become a father in '82 though. She was the bomb to anyone that knew her (she passed 5 weeks ago). Not even her ex's hate her, how does that happen? I hate the hell out of my ex's.
Rob Dotzler I am very sorry for the loss of your daughter. I can't imagine losing a child. You are very strong, to be able to talk about it. :)
My daughter Jacqui, my only child, extended the lives of at least 5 people, one who was hours from death. I couldn't be more proud of her. Thank you for your kind words, it's very touching and appreciated. To be honest, it's substantially easier to type those words than it is to actually speak them out loud. The words often catch in my throat when I try.
Still listening in 2022. Knocks the crap out of todays so called music!!!!
Killer track then. Killer track now. Killer track to your grandkids. And theirs...
Oh my God I have been looking for this song for YEARS! It just showed up in my recommends after listening to a bunch of '80s songs! YES I FINALLY FOUND IT!
One of if not the first songs i ever heard back as a kid, it's a belter
TimeandMonotony it was a classic when the album True Colours came out late 70s early 80s, can’t remember. My favourite album.
@honkster 7 hells yeah! I couldn't remember where I had heard this, but it was roller-skating in the early '80's
My favourite song 1978
@honkster 7 me too!
Great classic 80’s tune! I’m flashing back to being 14/15 yo. Without MTV we don’t hear (or see!) this one. Went on to form Crowded House.
43 years ago , Split Enz in activity by playing this great music!
2023 - Still listening
2100 - Mês Generation listening .
I just love this song.
One of the best songs ever! 😍
I agree with Jimm Bear.Hard to believe this song is 41 years old.I used to listen to this when I was in college.I'm 61 now glad I grew up with the music I did it's so much better than any of the music from today.
This records likeca good wine gets better with age great song 🎵
When i first heard of Split Enz in the late 70's they utterly blew me away.... got every album and saw them at Hammersmith Odeon.... so ahead of their time! Crowded House were great but it all started here first for me! ❤
1980: was just a glimpse of what was to come in the best decade of music!!!
Dr K I agree, but I think that glimpse started in 1978.
Yeah? The decade of people not playing musical instruments?
BOLLOCKS was it the best decade...
You are very right. How are you doing? Hope you are fine and staying safe out there?
I graduated on Sunday May 18th 1980 ! The day Mount St Helens Blew up end changed the world
The good old days when MTV played music and was must see.
Nice time to be young. Love this music. No cell phones. No internet, MTV was all about music, no politics, no money, less cars, more nature, Easy meeting new people in person, more freedom, less suspicion and more respect. Comfort and ease is for the old and the 80's was for the young.
Well said, Wes.
I'd go back in a heartbeat, best days of my life, first love college years, & my mum and dad were still alive, simpler times and great music.
Watched this video when it premiered on MTV and I'm still loving it
Neil Finn is just an INTERGALACTIC SINGER SONGWRITER..........NUFF SAID rocking my sox off in 2023 still a crackin song.
Same 👍
After he wrote this banger all those years ago, it’s not hard to see how he just went on and on with it. Pure talent.
Wow great memories blasting this tune in my camaro cruising the streets back in day 🎸🎸
Neil Finn was about 17 when he wrote this song! I could barely string a sentence together. I now live in NZ . this is a stunning song by a hugely underrated band. Hello england
Hello from the UK I totally agree stay safe
The man is a musical genius and it's a shame the world does not realize it
One of the best bands ever - no matter what year!
People who say this band is underrated must be under 35.
'ello Kiwis, yankisorus here, California NOT dreaming!! I was 10 or 11 living in Aussieland, (Melbourne) years ago 'course, this song was #1 on top of the pops Australia 🦘 AND the U.K!! Way ahead of it's time. I mean shit, you could listen to this song today and it doesn't sound outdated at all. My wife who's 10 years younger than me thought it was some pop song from the local 📻 radio!!! Great times the '80's.....
Wish we were still in the 80s
That would be AWESOME!
Me too❤️❤️❤️
I would buy property in Auckland

Actually this was the end of the 70's - trust me I was there, 20 years old at the time, but I just love your taste in music 👍😁
Mmm mmm mmn Neal Finn!
Still looks hot to me 40 years later here in this 80s flashback
Reminds me of happier times
Classic!
By far one of the BEST songs ever made by anyone
40 years old, time flies
It's so refreshing to just see a video, instead of it being loaded up w ads!!
Still loving this song in July 1st 2023
I wanna go back in time...this world is sick and crazy now...
💙🙏💙
Neil Finn was only 21 when he wrote this song. I was an idiot at 21.
Me too
I blame the chemicals.
I'm still an idiot

If I ever lose my ability to enjoy music, be it old or new, I'll pull the trigger myself.
New Zealands never had a better singer songwriter than Neil Finn. He' s so good that the sheep clap when he walks by. I grew up in New Zealand so i can make that joke !
I grew up in Oz so I can repeat it :)
I always thought these guys were either English or Scottish
Michael Lantz actually there background is Irish
@@gdaym8635 True. You can kinda see it too. I just uploaded a song and video i made for a Split song that some may not have heard from 1982, to see it simply type in the search bar the following title.....Split Enz Hello Sandy Allen Slideshow
Indeed, and proud of him and funny!x👏👏
This was one of my first records i bought when was 12. Played it over and over dancing around my bedroom.
This was the first 45 single I ever owned.
Props to the dude in the tan suit not singing or playing any instrument... just swaying to the groove and giving moral support to the rest of the band....
😄
That's Noel Crombie, and he contributed a lot to Split Enz; he designed and made their costumes, designed some of their album covers, directed their videos, and played percussion.
Discovered this song in "My Life is Murder" with Lucy Lawless episode in 2022. Awesome song!!! ❤
Saw them in Penns Landing , Philadelphia PA in 1980. They were with a band called Duran Duran and few others. What a great time I had.
Still listening in 2022! I'm also still listening to his and his brother's band, Crowded House!
This song reminds me of a beautiful man who passed away 2017. Had no interest with the song. I think of him tho when I hear it, so, glad its here to cheer myself up sometimes when I feel blue.
Love you Lee. X
I got you, that's all I want
I won't forget, that's a whole lot
I don't go out, now that you're in
Sometimes we shout, but that's no problem
I don't know why sometimes I get frightened
You can see my eyes, you can tell that I'm not lying
Look at you, you're a pageant
You're everything, that I've imagined
Something's wrong, I feel uneasy
You show me, tell me you're not teasing
I don't know why sometimes I get frightened
You can see my eyes, you can tell that I'm not lying
I don't know why sometimes I get frightened
You can see my eyes, you can tell that I'm not lying
There's no doubt, not when I'm with you
When I'm without, I stay in my room
Where do you go, I get no answer
You're always out, it gets on my nerves
I don't know why sometimes I get frightened
You can see my eyes you can tell that I'm not lying
I don't know why sometimes I get frightened
You can see my eyes, you can tell that I'm not lying
I don't know why sometimes I get frightened
You can see my eyes, you can tell that I'm not lying
I miss when people would type out lyrics in comments. We need to bring that back. 👍
And Neil Finn wrote this gem at 21!!!!
2024 baby; saw them live in '82
Verses sound like the Cars and the chorus sounds like Genesis! I finally found this song, heard it on the radio and had the one line from the chorus in my head for years !
Such a classic! Enjoyed on MTV many years ago, & still listening in 2023❤️

This song is simply awesome
Cracking song. The music and vocals on the verse parts - shivers up the spine stuff!
LOVE this song. So damn good.
This song is amazing 😊
first time I hear this song, and that chorus CAME OUT OF NOWHERE, and it hit me like a ton of bricks! and I liked it!
I love that juxtaposition between verse and chorus!
The chorus was how I was able to find the song. Then I was surprised to learn it was recorded in the fall of 1979.
Here is another song that uses this effect. What I call a ‘tonal shift’. Not a true modulation, but a sort of displaced, or hidden key center. czcams.com/video/qGzIKOYJBYo/video.html
I am with you there 😍
That chorus is catchy af!
The thing about great songs is they always sound current, and stay relevant.
2023 here….Upon hearing this I get transported right back to being a lil kid in 1980.
These cats were so ahead of their time! Great tunes we had back in the 80s...
I remember buying a radio cassette from my paperound money and listening to this all summer long, thanks for the memories,
