    Every quote I got was way overpriced and delivered less than half of what I ultimately needed. I ended up doing tons of research on my own and spec'd a system, ordered it from Signature Solar and had a local electrician help me install it. Total cost was about the same as the quotes but ended up with twice the solar and battery capacities. Let's be 100% honest, in these times, having solar is the answer to when grid power goes down or is turned off. Having the ability to keep the lights on and refrigerator cold is the difference between life and death, literally.

    Most homeowners cant install a faucet or light switch and you expect them to understand watts, kilowatts, converters, battery hookup options(string,series,etc) and why am I subsidising your electricity. Did they insure it? Is there now a lien on my property? Macro inverter or micro converters? Good luck!

    I noticed that the people going around that don’t know even there own equipment. They have a script they try to stay on. And get power when the grid goes down. Batteries are expensive but it’s needed when the power is down. Your spot on. And you have the sound system. From the company I would buy from thanks again for your work.

    our local power company (co-op) sent out a rep to sell us solar, but were going to tac on a $100/mnth on top of the lease of the equipment just to have solar. They also wouldn't let us put in a system for 100% of our usage, they capped it at 72%. The total monthly was going to be more than double our current utility bill. This is the driving force behind me doing our own research and putting our on DIY system in. Thanks so much for the informative series on solar!

    Yep this is what I did during the Black Friday sale. Got the inverters, same one eg4 6500 from signature solar but I bought all used panels from santan solar. They had or may have 15 percent off used panels as well. Think it worked out to 66 dollars a panel with shipping for 255 watt panels. At that rate a ground mount isn’t even worth it. Lean them on some bricks or old wood for airflow.

    Very valuable information I love your videos and watch your channel more than the others. You explain it better than anyone on youtube and you answered a lot of my questions and it's deeply appreciated. Just pulled the trigger and bought my system yesterday. I went with 2 eg4 6500ex's with 12 eg4 5.12kw batteries for a total of 60kwh backup. I got the a pallet of 36 blue sun 475 watt bi facials and will have 2strings of 8 in series going into each inverter which should total about 15000w+ of pv coming in, im in Florida and where my ground mount is going is full sun all day i mean no shade what so ever and about 30 yards from house I am about 5 miles in the woods on 7 acres from closest power pole and will be completely off grid been building my house for about 6 months now for solar all block walls everything spray foamed insulation all led lights most efficient appliances, we will be powering a 240 well pump, 2.5ton ac, water heater, washer, dryer, convection oven, microwave and a few low wattage phone chargers and small misulanious stuff. There's to much division coming out the television so there will be no tv or suround sound we just keep up with the stuff we watch on little tablets or phones. So my quote from signature solar went from quote to order yesterday so I still have a small window to change anything before I wire the money. My question to you or anyone else with knowledge does this system look doable for whole house and Also did you have to turn in schematics and all that to building department or you did not have to mess with any of that. I'm preapproved for solar before I even started the building process but they want schematics and details on paper before install. Keeping my offgrid separate from my Grid connection, Net metering you have to keep homeowners insurance and personally I would rather take that insurance money and buy my PV system with those funds, my payoff is fairly mute in that situation. Just not carrying homeowner insurance paid for my system in a few years on its own.

    Does your system capable of solar self-consumption? Using the batteries and solar generation to handle your loads both during the day and during the night, especially since your system has batteries. Can you run your inverters in parallel with the grid? Also, how does the NEC 120% rule apply in this situation?

    • @CountryLivingExperience

  • @tweedeldee8122
    @tweedeldee8122 Před rokem +1

    Thank you! Just to clarify so I'm not mistaken. You can use a Hybrid interactive inverter without batteries. It just acts like a grid tied inverter. You could then add batteries as you can afford them later. Right?

  • @marklittler784
    @marklittler784 Před rokem

    Because scaffolding in the uk has to be erected to do roof work for safety reasons it can be the same again as the cost of the system if you are not having your roof done at the same time. What kind of hybrid solar system is available to backup your house when the grid goes down and utilize the batteries to supply your house loads during the evening when solar is not available? It appears that the NEC 120% rules prevents this. Is the answer to have an offgrid system and a grid-tie system?

Do you know if it’s possible to have a system where I can run mostly off grid along with battery backup, but also have the ability to either automatically or manually connect to the grid or a gas generator to recharge batteries when it’s needed? I’ve seen a few videos where you need to disconnect the battery set, then use a charge controller connected to generator. One video talks about Growatt inverter and how it is the best then another video talks about EG4 inverters being used. What are you using now and what happened to make that change?

      I am using the Growatts to build a system for my barn which is on a different transformer. They are still great. I am using the EG4's for my house because they have a bit more power.

    Why not cut a few trees? I assume you get your production at least during midday, but it definitely looks like lots of daylight left, and your entire system is shaded. Researching for a year and choosing the best panels still won't do much if they're shaded ☺

    I check in to my area power provider they buy at 7.5 cents per Kw/h and give back credit at that rate but they dont give credit in the electricity form meaning if i make 10 KW in the day and send back to grid they change that 10KW in to money and if i use same 10 KW at night from grid. I still get charged for it cause when i buy my power back it cost me 16 cents/ KW. The deficit of 9 cents will go out of my pocket. These companies are so sneaky how they write their terms and conditions. I am planning to get powerbank that can hold enough power for couple nights so i rather use that than buying back from grid at higher rate.

    We wanted solar just to keep our two freezers going 1st price 48000 2nd price 15000 plus so we're not going solar it's just my daughter and I so we couldn't do it on our own

    • @CountryLivingExperience
      @CountryLivingExperience  Před rokem +2

      You can build a small system for $3000 to $4000 that would be a perfect backup for your freezers and some lights. You could also add to the system as your budget allows so that you could eventually run your whole house. Whom ever gave you that pricing did not listen to your needs.

      There’s also the option of the smaller grid tie inverters combined with the correct solar panels and you can run them all day for free.

    Top mistake for buying solar panels for your home is buying them for your home. Even if they produce, and they don't break you, and the utility lets you send power to the network many insurers will refuse to ensure your home if you have them.

    Don't get solar panels my friends brother got solar panels paid 500.00 a month in addition to paying for his electric bill. After he died the solar company would not cancel or take back the solar panels and the new owner has to pay for it for the duration of her brother's lease.

    • @CountryLivingExperience
      @CountryLivingExperience  Před 8 měsíci

      Your friends brother was preyed upon and did not read or research what he was getting into. I promote installing solar yourself as a self sufficient alternative to hedge against rising electric costs. Just saying "don't buy solar panels" is not understanding solar systems and the options at all.

    MOST OF US AREN'T LAWYERS ,,, I am not going to get solar panels, it's too complicated. I have a regular house. What we need ,,, turn on light switch and it comes on. I don't have to worry about inverters/converters, batteries, cloudy day, etc ,,, I plug in my refrigerator or toaster etc and it works. What the hell? Some day someone is going to invent a package system, unfold solar panels and plug it into my house, end of story.

    Tax credit what taxes do I owe zero I'm not going to get money back for the solar panels I've been buying cuz I don't owe any back Texas I won't get any money back because my texts are always paid and the only extra taxes I get a Pacer x you to buy the inverters buy the batteries buy the solar panels . But you got to pay when you buy the system so there is no actual extension when you buy solar panels so what the point is I try and claim text savion going to get nothing back when you don't oh anyting. I have a job money comes out of my check for taxes it's the law can I fill out my taxes at the end of every year or I should I say do my text I'm in February to April and I don't fall behind the text that I have to pay to go anything when I don't fall behind so I never have to pay more taxes when I don't fall behind. Maybe people need to get jobs maybe that's why they're not paying taxes.
