- In this video, I freeroam and explore some of the locations in The Run, specifically, San Francisco, Yosemite Approach, Las Vegas, The Rockies, Chicago Industrial, and New York
A lot of the maps in The Run are massive and have a lot of ground to cover, but don't offer a whole lot more than what you're supposed to drive on anyway, as such I've sped up some of the clips because basically what you see is what you get. Head off the marked path and you'll end up falling forever. Cities like Chicago and New Jersey have quite a few drivable areas since they're used more than once, I've found that with no HUD it's very easy to get lost in them. It makes me wish Black Box would have expanded on the cities and built some sort of native freeroam

I actually think this handling model would rock it in an open world game. It would make it a much more difficult game, that's true, where you need to break quite before the turn and you can't take closed turns at more than 100 km/h but I don't actually care! I am ok with that! I am done with NFS games that have a very flexible handling model for an open world, I want an exigent game, and The Run or even Shift 2 physics would be amazing in an open world mode. Cause they would be realistic and would need quite much skill to overcome the opponents, you would be fighting not only your opponents but the own physics and overspeeding. You actually do that already in other NFS games, the difference is that you do it at 200 or 300 km/h, when actually overspeeding in certain narrow roads should be going over 120 km/h. Actually going over 100 but well, nvm. Thing is, that if the sensation is gonna be the same, who cares if you overspeed at 120 or 400? you are going to be fighting that overspeed anyway, so for me, the most logical thing is to make overspeed at lower speed already and making rivals go also slower, except the most intrepid ones, that would be able to pull maneuvers to avoid traffic much better than the lesser ones.
So yeah, I think that The Run has an amazing handle model, and coupled with an open world would have given an amazing Open World game.

The physics in NFS Run by far was the most realistic one in the NFS Series. Miss the good old times when Black Box studios was making games for NFS!!

Because Black Box is responsible for The Run, all the newer titles are by Criterion/Ghost Games
Black Box is the same studio responsible for basically all the NFS titles up until Undercover, and including World

It's crazy how in the New York City levels, there aren't any streets remotely designed that way in NYC. The streets are by nature, narrow and congested. You couldn't have a high speed chase in Manhattan. It just couldn't happen. It looks nice, but nothing like the real NYC. I'm a born and bred NYC'er.

Well, think of it this way. This is an alternate timeline where NYC had wider roads and isn't as congested.
There's another problem. You know the Coastal Rush map (Aka Stage 1)? If you enter the Oakland Bay Bridge, cars on the top part of the bridge drive north away from the city, even through cars drive south to San Francisco on top of the bridge. It's a great game, but it's strange how they made the Oakland Bay Bridge that way.
Is it sad that I like these graphics more than NFS Payback?

What I liked about this game were the sounds, the cars actually sound like they were fighting for Jacks life, and pushing thereselve to their limits, and were begging for mercy, Thats what I really loved about Blackbox, their attention to detail was unlike any other game company out there, sadly we won't ever get a game like this.
I thought I was the only one who felt like the cars that Jack was riding were working together with him to "help" escape

I wish The Run had a free roam mode or something... The graphics and physics reminded me a lot of the older days of black box. Its unfortunate that they didn't make more NFS games, black box had so much more potential... NFS Payback would be way more fun if it was done by blackbox, even though payback is pretty good in my opinion.

This game has true NFS BLOOD, I don't care that free roaming is missing. The Run is for adrenaline, and it proofs that there is no other street racing franchise on that level. I miss you BLACK Box

That's actually kinda true. They say they want it, but when they get it, instead of driving to the location and seeing all the scenery and the roads to it, they fast travel.

I always thought it would've been nice if they made it open world but have you finish the race and story first before unlocking the open world even if its just the city you first start out in.
Now I realized that this game loosk so good.
CDPR was inspired from the water physics in Yosemite Approach in this video and included the same in Cyberpunk.

I know this might be a stupid question but.. How do you freeroam in Nfs The Run?
He used some sort of "debug" mode. Not sure how it`s done but I know 2 ways you can free roam in NFS The Run with 2 ways without modding:
1. Exact at the same time when you reach the finish crash into some traffic car or use a reset. The timer will skip some numbers and won`t let you pause the game. That means you can go in the wrong way without the "wrong way" warning.
2. After the event has started turn the car in the opposite direction and drive very slowly till all the road on the mini-map disappears. If you drive a bit faster you`ll lose 1 reset.
You can`t go in every direction like the debug mode but with these ways, you can achieve it. As you can see NFS The Run wasn`t meant for free roam and open world.
