- Maya Leibowitz-Jenkins is a 14-year-old activist who is "extremely mature for her age" and relentlessly marches to the beat of her own drum. KG is her younger brother. Maya hasn't made that many friends yet or met any people. She has only interacted with Penny Proud, Dijonay Jones, LaCienega Boulevardez, Michael Collins, and a few other characters. Despite her self-proclaimed wokeness, she has animosity towards Penny upon first meeting her but yet enjoys hanging out with LaCienega who is actually known to be shallow and superficial.
KG despite recently moving into town with his family, he quickly becomes part of the popular crowd, unlike Maya, because of his nonchalant persona. He becomes Dijonay Jones' new crush replacing Sticky Webb after he informs the girls (and Michael) that Sticky had moved.
Maya & KG are seen with very few interactions, but it seems clear that they have a typical sister and brother relationship. They get annoyed with each other easily. Maya is bothered by KG's non-nonchalant ways and his tendency to not listen to her demands, and KG gets annoyed with her attitude. But it’s clear that they love each other and know each other well as shown when KG tells Penny that she just doesn’t do well with others. However, KG is open to helping her whenever she needs him. - Hudba

I'd just chock that up to first-episode syndrome. They were probably still figuring out her and her brother's characters, which would also explain why they're a lot more hostile to each other in episode 1 compared to the rest of the series.

Zoey and Michael are some of her only nice friends, and even then she could have better.
What I don’t get is that Maya hated Penny and her friends and the next episode she hangs out with them.
Penny stuck up for her and KG when they were getting harassed for having 2 dads.
This is pure speculation, but I guess that Maya thought Penny and her gang were just like the kids at her old school. Now they don’t outright say this, but they probably moved and transferred due to the bullying of her and KG having two dads and that just had an effect on Maya being unapproachable and dissociating from interacting with others because she was afraid of that situation happening again.
In the next episode after Penny went off on her, Maya probably took some of her words to heart and tried opening up to Penny and her Friends seeing them like the same Influencer she also liked probably gave her some hope that they could be friends, up until Penny let the fame get to her and started just proving Maya’s entire point from the first episode thus making her not like her. Oh, and she was probably cool with Lacienega because she was the first one to stand up to Penny out of everyone.
I did think Maya was unapproachable in this episode but Penny kinda annoyed me too with how she wanted Maya to like her so badly
Maya is a hard cookie at first because of her and KG's background of being orphans she must've been the one who had to be strong

Penny seems to often endure people not liking her, for nothing, let alone suffering having ( I wouldn't say fake friends) wishy-washy friends.
Yet even I'm rather distant of people in society, myself. Thus, I can't blame Maya, especially the part where she just about hates all humans. 😅
Furthermore, even though Penny meant well...talk about showing some dignity. 🫣😑
I wouldn't like that either ( pushing someone to be 'friends' with you, like a little kid utterly begging for candy or a toy).
One must remember that
1. You CAN'T please, everybody.
2. You should do YOUR thing for YOU and not to impress others.
3. Whether one likes you or not... Don't take it personally!
( We must show respect for others, whether we do like them or not. Yet disliking a person should be no different than disliking a certain candy. You don't like gummies, then leave it be, and move it along! Why are you trying to convince others to hate it, too?!?! 'To each, his own').

Kingdom hearts Penny
I'm surprised people are confused about this, but the thing is Maya and KG are the ones who are catching the heat, not their parents. The whole premise of the episode is that they’re getting bullied for having two dads. The parents themselves aren't being mocked and ridiculed, but the kids themselves. They emphasize how all the parents in the neighborhood are telling their kids to not hang around them because of such. KG handles the bullying by retaliating against it while Maya prefers to ignore it to not feed into the negativity, and possibly not worrying their parents about how they’re being treated at school. Which they weren’t aware of the bullying they received at school at all it seems.
It’s implied this happened to them at their previous school which why they transferred anyways. Maybe this is why Maya disassociates herself from people and avoids making friends because of the situation she went through, to the point where she develops a social Justice Warrior personality, in which she only sees the worse in people unless they align with her interest. I think she’s meant to be flawed, it’s just my biggest gripe with her is usually the two biggest controversial episodes in the season.
Cuz she sees herself as a victim of white supremacy while having a white father. The irony of it all.
Maya has a point, Penny and her friends are backstabers.

(Quick note: I've only seen very few episodes of the original Proud Family) I didn't mind Maya at first, but after a while, I started to realize how badly she was written, I'm not gonna get into details, cause there's a lot of videos talking about this)
