  • The Jasper, Arkansas, town square is always abuzz with activity - whether it be a farmer's market or biker enthusiasts taking a break from a ride. Get to know the 'Elk Capital of Arkansas,' a little bit of its history, community projects and local businesses - including a 'Museum of Junk.'

I grew up a few miles south of jasper, I miss living there, also fun fact about the old jail is that there is a basement that has been sealed off under the old dispatch, it use to be the jailers quarters

They could probably open another Ozark Cafe down in Russellville.

This is very interesting and informative video of the beautiful town of Jasper. I would love to live there someday it looks very peaceful and relaxing. I am curious are the locals accepting of anybody new to the area ? If anyone can help me on this and any other information on the area it would be much appreciated.

Of course, for those of you who visit this town, the County is dry!

I grew up in Harrison and have zero regrets about moving to Jasper. The people are lovely and the school is great and even the revenue office isn't a dreadful place. Jasper is definitely the place to be.

I am looking at homesteading there with my family and a few good friends. One has a step-daughter that is half African American and is not sure if she will experience any racism at the schools. She deals with it alot at the schools here in Oregon and just does not want it to continue there.

@@infantryblack I'm not too sure about the racism thing here. I don't personally know anyone that is, but my landlady flys a rebel flag in her front yard. But she has a dark skinned niece that she loves dearly. I'm not sure on nationality. It seems like children are usually more accepting than adults, even in a hick town. But in the 30 years I lived in Harrison, I have never heard of any retaliation towards anyone of color.

@@erinwhite649 Thank you for your reply. I lived in Texas and a bunch of us have Rebel flags with our Texas Flags. It is good to hear that and I will relay it to Jordan that it is not a place that she should fear for his daughter. I have so much to learn about that area and it will be an exciting new start for us.

@ I have moved into a 45 acre home stead in Newton County 25 min. south of Harrison and it has been great. All my neighbors all 4 of them within 5 miles have been so kind and welcoming. Kids been in School since the start of the year and they say it is their best school so far between Oregon, Texas and Arkansas. Best decision I could have made. Clear skys with no light pollution and complete silence.

@ Better this than BLM burning down citys and Antifa riots all around Oregon and other major citys. So far the people in Oregon were 100x more rude than any one I have met here.

No, nothing in Jasper is of interest to me. I will be in Arkansas
but I'm not entering Arkansas again for commerce. Science is
    my preference. I don't poke.
