Enipeas River gathers its waters from a series of mountain streams that arise at over 2000 m altitude, below the main peaks of Mount Olympus. It bears its name from the point Prionia where a somewhat larger spring rises near the hiking trail E 4 at an altitude of 1,300 m. One kilometer below it also flows into the Melitzani stream. The Enipeas runs largely in an easterly direction and falls with a steep gradient to the valley. In two kilometers it overcomes 200 meters in altitude, passes the former monastery of Agios Dionysios and continues there through the deeply cut gorge. Further mountain streams flow to it from the mountain flanks. There it still flows at an altitude of 400 m. North of Litohoro it flows in a deep bed, where it reaches the plain below the place. There it is diverted to the north.
