    ‪@sundaysfordogs‬
Well, we are in need of more long lumber (16') for our deck project, and the only way to get that is by cutting a tree down on our property. We have a couple of dead-standing Douglas Fir trees to choose from, and one is more dangerous to fell than the other. So I started with the easier one, but should this be a 2 person job?
I have a little bit of experience felling trees, but not a ton, and not for large dead-standing trees like this is a thick forest, with a lean in the tree.
I really do need more practice! (and just need to trust myself and hold onto my little bit of confidence with it 😊).
I also have an update on my workshop!
Thanks for watching and I will see you in the next video!
    M 💝

I was a wildland firefighter for a decade. I've felled hundreds of trees. There was very little wrong with your wedge and backcut. Bruce just complicated the process. He didn't "clean up" the hinge, he messed it up. The only mistake you made was forgetting that your bar wasn't long enough to do the back cut from one side. No biggie.

Great news with Steve and Kota. They are blessed to have you in their lives. Great job with the tree also, I'm glad you asked for help. I have been guilty of downing way too many trees alone myself. I was 40 years younger and full of confidence. I was wrong too.
One suggestion I would give. Purchasing a proper set of logging chains could also save your life. You would only need a couple, but they are intended for the exact use you have. They are designed for binding on the log where eye hooks tend to slip. I nearly lost my life back then when a hook slipped under stain, missing my head by inches. We all hope you have a great week. Peace be with you and your family.

He was helping with loading branches into a loader when something went wrong and took his life . He was 17 yrs old ,, a fireman where he was from . It was on out local news in pa USA yesterday . He was not cutting Down trees . Just placing big limbs into the loader they were using . Cutting down leaning trees that are very tall is a dangerous job even for a veteran logger . Ya just don’t know what can go wrong . Always seek out experienced cutter when doing so .

I am always impressed by those with the experience to look at a tree, and place the wedge cut and back cut in what seems like the perfect places and depth to have the hinge help the tree to fall where and how they want. I had two low back surgeries, while in the USAF, and know the struggles and time it takes to get back to a more normal daily routine, and glad to hear Steve is on the other side of what can be the worst of that kind of surgery. Hey Michelle, of all the surgeries I have had, spinal fusion was the most panful and made me realize just how much we depend on our back to do everything. I chose to go home the next day after surgery, and am glad I did. We older than 60 folk need to stay active. Use it or lose it, is a thing. I am glad I do have a smart home to help me do things that normally require me getting up, I can just tell Alexa to do it & save more energy for the things I alone can do.
My cats all came and asked if they could live here & I just couldn't imagine anyone loving or caring for them as much as I do. Even though I am allergic to them, I give them all the cuddles and attention they need. I get to spend 24/7 with them and I never need to work. I can ever talk to them when I am away via 2-way cameras. When I got sick, I saw that it was not just me caring for them, they were caring for me. As a result, my supplemental medical insurance started supplying all their needs. Living on a small fixed income, I always bought their needs before mine & this additional help is so beneficial to us. Tomorrow will be like Christmas when their Pets Smart box comes & we open it together.

Even if you didn't manage the perfect cut on the tree i find the retrieval of the logs well done.
The idea with the extension is brilliant. I suggest to have one side with some kind of garage door for summer or just for material handling.

Sundays could not have a better spokesperson. That endorsement was amazing.

Great choice on new saw. I'm running a 261C as well - it's got a great power to weight ratio and is ideal for most of the trees we have here in the Koots. I find the fuel tank a bit small, but that's a minor gripe.

Great job finding Coda a forever home. He looks like a love bug! I'm going to try Sundays dog food. My golden has pancreatitis so it might help her to stay healthy.

Michelle for leaners should you do a bore cut to prevent barber chair? Maybe for the next Dougie. Sounds weird Dougie. Have fun 😊

    Important tip for chain-dragging.
When you latch your hook back onto the chain, after looping around whatever, latch onto the under side of the chain if possible. This gives greater surety that the latch won't slip apart.

    Clydey-Bear is sure loving life!
The big yawn followed by the shake of his jowls and freeze-frame ending is absolutely hilarious and heartwarming. You're the best mom he could have ever asked for. That goes for all the other members of your family!
You solved your problem on how to do the undercuts when you lifted the log after turning it. The log was suspended off the ground allowing you to perform the undercuts at each point. In other words, lift the freshly fallen tree first. Do your undercuts, then lower it to the ground. Use the Bobcat and chain attached to the log to lift it just enough to take the stress off the cut you're about to make. After you make the full cut, you just jump in the Bobcat and drive off because you're still attached to the log. Anyway, that's my two cents!
I'm absolutely ecstatic that you'll be able to build your workshop as an addition to the house. I remember you explaining why you weren't allowed to do it before and it made me sad. The most important concern is your safety. Now you'll be at the house and Steve will be only a few steps away just in case.
The Edmonton Oilers put on an exciting rally at the end of the Stanley Cup Series. In support of you and Steve, I was cheering them on hoping that they would go four straight wins and win the cup. Bummer eh?
    Michelle,
You're a flesh and blood human being with a life beyond CZcams.
I think your subs and viewers would all agree that the health and well-being of you and your family is paramount. Please don't burn yourself out just to satisfy our entertainment needs. It appears life's challenges of piling up on you right now. What a great partner Steve is to recognize that you needed a mini break from some of the load.
I guess as viewers, all we can do is offer you encouragement (Oh, and patronize your sponsors!! 😉).
You create wonderful content Michelle! ❤️

Hi Michelle great videos. I have the opposite problem to you, My husqvarna starts first time but the stihl takes ages to get going. But I always get there. Always make sure you have an exit route & it’s clear of debris so you don’t trip up. Stay safe & regards to Steve. 👍 from Uk🇬🇧

4:40 there's a third way, well, third and fourth; fall it perpendicular to the lean. You won't have to push it very much, just a couple wedges.

Nice upgrade in your new saw. Good strategy going with the 2 pound lighter one. I love my MS170 but got tired of cranking so for lighter tasks I went with a MSA70 battery power (I think the replacement model for the battery one you have). It’s a great little saw. (Only 12inch bar in stock) Always fun to be a blade runner! Smart lady taking some time for yourself. Your fans will stick with you while you take some me time. I always enjoy your videos. See you next time.
