Also, doing everything in steps helps make it so much more manageable. Going from "eating fast food every day" ---> "eating fast food once or twice a week" is so much more manageable than telling yourself "I'll just never eat it again". Introducing healthy meals and substitutions over time helps you be more successful in making these healthier lifestyle decisions and it's a hell of a lot easier to stick to that than just cutting everything you enjoy out of your diet at once.
Keep up the great content homie!

That 7-7-7 meal plan idea is great, especially since half the battle is figuring out what to eat. Looking forward to your cookbook, Jax! 😁
What has helped me tackle my eating habits is seasoning everything with either Morton Season-All (salt, garlic, pepper, paprika, etc) or my most recent favorite seasoning Shichimi Togarashi (Japanese seasoning with red chili pepper, orange peel, sesame seeds, Japanese pepper, ginger and seaweed). Makes a bowl of veggies taste so good! 😋
Also if anyone is having a problem with too much red meat (sorry Luffy), seriously try Impossible meat products! It may not taste better than a restaurant burger, but it's waaay better than fast food ones in my opinion! The chicken nuggets they sell are pretty good too.

I hated on the series at first because of the unique animation but after watching your videos on various Baki topics I gave it a chance and now I can't get enough. Started with Baki The Grappler and I'm on episode 45 with Jack vs Baki. And the one thing that I love so much about this series that I think is unique to it is that it's got so much heart. Been doing this for a while and I love keeping it going:
I have a rice cooker and it has a steam inlay for me to steam veggies and the like while cooking the rice, so I love to get some lean fish and several veggies I just feel like eating, chuck those in the steam inlay and there we go. You can season however you want to and the steaming process is fairly healthy, especially compared to actually frying stuff in a pan.
Being able to switch between different forms of carrots, broccoli, peppers, potatoes, and so on helps me get that feeling of variety while essentially sticking to "fish with veggies and rice" plus you can always steam stuff in there without rice if your rice cooker allows that.
for breakfast I like to use a protein heavy muesli by mixing some protein powder with a fruity muesli and dinner is basically a mixed plate of fruits with one slice of whole grain bread with hummus or peanut butter.
This sounds like a lotta carbs (cuz it is), but the low fat and regular workout make it work wonders for me and I can keep it varied by going for different fruits, veggies, types of fish/meat and so on.
Make sure to stay hydrated and maybe substitute that coffee with green tea and/or matcha and you've some nice little #SOMAGOALS

Everything was spot on. Only thing I add to your going out with friends is if you plan to just manage your calories better. What I do. Don't eat as much till you go out and then can eat whatever you want with them. Just like your 85/15 diet you mention. As long as you health most of the week nothing wrong with enjoying the times when your friends go out. Just dont be like the Rock cheat meal and you should be fine. Good rule of thumb I try to follow is eat to point you feel good not to the point you feel stuff. enough to satisfy you but not to push you over and you just feel like sleeping

    Soma Goals!!
This is kind of something i did for a bit before i hit a wall and got stressed and frustrated and had to take care of my mental health first (i have medical issues that make losing weight both dangerously easy, but safely very difficult). then the pandemic hit and everything fell apart. but Jax is so wholesome and supportive. always makes me feel positive about my possibilities of improving.
Anyeay. I love to cook, i am well trained for someone who's not a professional. So i love to experiment with food and have learned a lot of little tricks.
    1) have a fat (butter, coconut oil, duck fat, bacon fat, etc.) brush; instead of knifing or spooning a knob or whatever into the pan, brush the hot pan with the fat on the brush to leave a thin film to do the work and add flavour, but keeps the amount low. You can also use a paper towel, but a food safe heat safe brush (like for basting) is reusable.
    2) Use Coconut Water in place of water you would eat in a dish, not for large volume boiling. IE. rice, soup, sauce, etc. not for potatoes or pasta. It's got a little extra plant sugar, but it's gonna give a little more flavour and it's LOADED with potassium, which you need in obscene amounts. (i can't stand bananas)
3)Fermented foods make your gut happy. but also slows down everything coming after them. which evens out insulin spikes. that's your kimchi, hummus, yogourt, miso, etc. all great.
    4) get yourself a handful of Flavour liquids. like Worcestershire, fish sauce, sriracha, lemon juice, and Better than Bouillon (or...)
    5) stock is easy to make if you've got a day to chill out or do housework, just make a huge pot of it, and freeze it for a few months in single serve containers. can make sure there's not too much salt, plenty of nutrients, and even proteins if you do bone broth, and can add lots of flavour for very few calories.
I've also got an app "Lose It" on Android that i find intuitive to track my meals, and it's got a crowd sourced database of foods, but also a verified list.

First I wanted to say great video! Lots of good pointers here!
A tip I would recommend is get some fiber wraps. There a several brands and you can find them in most grocery stores. They're are like 50-60 calories each. You can of course make wraps out of them or you can use them to make a low calorie pizza. Put a couple of tablespoons of marinara or pizza sauce and then cover with low fat mozzarella. Heat over a medium cast iron skillet until they are crispy. I'd say 5 minutes or so. You can loud them up with veggies. You are looking at around 300 calories or less for a personal pizza depending how much cheese you use.

  • @jacobharris5894
    @jacobharris5894 Před 2 lety +1

I have found that this is by far the hardest thing about fitness but probably the most important. I did the Gon/Killua training for a few months but kept eating whatever. While I definitely got stronger, faster and a lot more endurance my body didn’t visually change very much and I didn’t progress as fast as I would have liked. Eventually I fell off the fitness wagon due to stress from school and not feeling like I had time to work out. But now I’m back at it again mainly trying to focus on learning how to cook and eat healthy. If you have never cooked like me and eating healthy seems overwhelming to you definitely consider focusing completely on that aspect of fitness first. It may be less appealing than the working out but taking the time to learn that first will make everything else easier later on and while you may slack in your training and lose your progress you’ll never forget how to cook. Not to mention cooking and eating healthy is an important life skill pretty much everyone should know in general.
If it is overwhelming to you, start small. Find a few easy recipes online and start from there or alternatively pay for a meal plan from a personal trainer. I personally paid for a year of personal training from Jaxblade and got a meal plan from him. It’s expensive but I like being given easy recipes and not having to worry about tracking calories and macros yet. Don’t feel obligated to prepare three meals a day right away. Starting out preparing one meal a day should be good, probably dinner or lunch so you can learn dishes a little more complicated than just cooking eggs. Slowly build up your skills and get comfortable making a few recipes. The idea is to ease you into either preparing all your meals for the day or doing meal prep for multiple days of the week. It may be too early for me to be giving advice on this type of thing but this is currently what I’m doing now.
I’m also looking into healthier sources of caffeine than soda because sticking to a meal plan is pointless if I get all this extra sugar and calories from soda. I probably want to transition to either coffee or tea but unfortunately I don’t really like the taste of either one. Hopefully I can acquire a taste for one of them so I can reduce my calories and sugar intake from drinks.

    @StudioGhostUtah Před 2 lety

Here's a pizza idea that's good for cheat days and Somagoals where your trying to save money by not ordering delivery.
Feel free to modify as needed.
    Ingredients
    - Pizza Dough (can be store bought or fresh made)
    - Pizza sauce (any brand will do)
    - Shredded cheese (I use a pizza blend, mixture of mozzarella, romano, parmesan, etc.)
    - A block of mozzarella (can be a square block or a round one, just big enough to slice)
    - Shredded cheddar and jack cheese (used to sprinkle on top of the pizza before going into the oven.)
    - Olive Oil
    - Garlic and Herb Mrs. Dash (or a mix of italian herbs and garlic powder.)
    1. Let your dough rest on the counter until it's room temperature. This will make it easier to work with. (If you want to speed up the process a bit, turn your oven on to the lowest temperature, let it heat for 5 minutes, and then turn it off. Put the dough in a metal bowl coated with oil, cover the top of the bowl with a wet wash cloth and place it in the warm, but OFF oven and let it rise for 30 minutes.)
    2. Once the dough is ready, preheat your oven to 425° F. (If you have a pizza stone, put it in the oven before preheating so it will heat up with the oven.)
    3. Roll out the dough to your desired size and then brush the entire crust surface with olive oil. Sprinkle the seasoning on the oil covered crust.
    4. Place your tomato sauce on the crust and then sprinkle the shredded cheese. Add some extra seasoning on top if desired.
    5. Take your mozzarella block and slice off a few slices about 1/4 of an inch thick. For a pizza about 12-14 inches, you'll need only 4 slices. Place these slices on top of the shredded cheese already on the pizza.
    6. Top the pizza with any additional seasonings like Basil or Rosemary, as well as a small amount of a different cheese from what's already on it, like cheddar, colby or monterey jack. You can also try sprinkling parmesan on the crust edges as well.
    7. Place the pizza in the oven. If cooking on a pizza stone, it should take about 12 minutes. If your using a small countertop convection oven, it was take even less time, so check on it after 6 minutes.
    8. Once the cheese slices are melted and have started to brown, pull it out of the oven. Let it sit for a few minutes before cutting.
This became my go-to when I had a pizza craving but didn't want to get fast food.
It usually comes out with fewer calories than most chain pizzas.

I'd say that incorporating a variety of "spices" or a "spicy sauces" is a great of enhance your meals. For one, it improves the flavor, and it would support gut health (iykwim). For example, you could replace the ketchup in your eggs (if you believe in ketchup with eggs) with sriracha, or even salsa as another level up from sriracha.

I'm a pizza addict so I used to struggle ALOT when I couldn't control myself and had to completely restrict it when I was cutting. The main problem with pizza is that the dough has most of the calories and that can be upward of 1000, especially if you order out. Here's a recipe I use to make a crust that's under 600 cal and the entire pizza typically comes out to about 750-800 cal in total with low cal cheese, protein, & veggie toppings:
    Makes 4 crusts
    500g flour
    325g water
    25g salt
    1g yeast
    2 tsp olive oil

Here's an idea for pizza lovers. I came across a recipe for pizza where the base was made only with flour, Greek yogurt and a pinch of salt (have to have a little, am I right). Chose to use wholemeal flour as opposed to white flour as it filled me up without having to eat too much (8-9 inch pizzas for reference instead of the 14 inches I used to get) and was just easier on my stomach.
It was great. If I find the original recipe I'll link the video, see if anyone else has ways of making it more delicious and nutritious.

So I always like sweets and even on a bulk I don’t want them much so I do this instead: get a blender put one big tablespoon of cacao two tablespoons of smth sweet but healthy (examples: honey, maple syrup or dates syrup) then add 250 ml of milk (not oat or anything just good whole cow milk). This literally tastes like chocolate milk and will kill your craves. If you don’t have a blender get egg whites and add chocolate syrup and this will do the same thing and literally taste like chocolate milk (the more chocolate syrup the stronger the taste) hope this helps and don’t mock this until you try it!!

I was an avid watcher long ago, but then due to the whole situation the past few years, fell back out into an unhealthy lifestyle, but I'm finally starting to get my stuff together and start working out and taking my diet seriously again. While I feel like I can be disciplined about counting calories, at some point, the reason I looked forward to cheat days wasn't because I could let a bit loose, but rather because it meant I didn't have to worry about counting calories for that day. It was always such a hassle measuring things for every single meal and math-ing out what I had to make sure I didn't go over. What would you recommend to solve at least some of that tedium?

My Reese's protein oatmeal recipe: 4 squares of lindt 95% chocolate, 2 table spoons of natural creamy peanut butter ( the kind that has the oil on top when you buy it), 2 scoops of vanilla protien powder, and 12oz of oatmeal. poor boiling water over the 4 squares of chocolate and peanut butter, then add a scoop of protien powder stir in, then add the next scoop of protien powder. once mixed add oats. P.S make sure the bowl can take boiling water.

    • @vulture9086
      @vulture9086 Před 2 lety

4 squares of lindt 95% is one serving, and only has 1g sugar. so it is really bitter, which is why you use vanilla protien powder to sweeten it up.

One thing I've done is to add different seasoning to different types of chicken. The one that I mostly do is some garlic powder, onion powder, basil, oregano, Italian seasoning, minced garlic, and red vinegar wine. Cooking oil is olive oil, on the pan up and add a healthy portion of olive oil and spirited around the pan. Then add minced garlic and shifted around the pan and then add seasoned chicken that's been marinated overnight in a bag. Mostly use only chicken breasts. After putting the breast in the pan a little bit more minced garlic on top spit around with a fork and then dose it with some red vinegar wine and then cook it until nice golden brown.
You can add probably tomato paste and bell and onion peppers and other vegetables in the stir fry and then have it with it as an option
If I have chicken thighs, I usually add the seasoning before cooking it, such as barbecue sauce, sweet and sour, lemon pepper seasoning, or anything else. Usually the runoff will dilute it somewhat. With chicken variety is the spicy of life.
