      That was sort of the entire point of the video though. She didn’t like it at first, but stuck with it and took chances she wouldn’t normally take. She liked in the end. It was very helpful for me as a beginner to see what we can do to fix something.

    I too struggled with lettering but I've got a tip for you that really helped me a lot: start lettering from the middle out to the sides. As an artist you'll tackle the spatial issues with it easier from the centre out.

    I love this so much! Not just the end result but the process and explanation you give. I’ve been trying to pin down my own style (digital and on paper) and one thing I’ve struggled the most with is what color technique to use. I’ve noticed I keep on being drawn to watercolor but I’ve struggled with it and have avoided it, thinking it’s not me, but lately I’ve realized that combining it with colored pencil is the answer. I love seeing how you had so much fun once you added pencil in this piece. I can also relate a lot to that feeling in the middle of working on something that you hate how it’s looking and almost want to give up, but once you start adding detail it starts to come together. I’ve heard this a lot from other artists as well and I’ve experienced it myself. Thanks so much for sharing this, it is very inspirational to me.

      I'm glad you found this helpful and can relate! I used to abandon drawings half way though a lot more but lately I usually try and stick with an illustration even if I think it's looking terrible. A lot of the time it comes together at the end, or I get an idea of something to try that will fix it. It doesn't always work though and I still have to redo things sometimes 😂 Good luck with your pursuit of watercolor and color pencil!

    I figure coloured pencils work well on hot-pressed paper for outlining, since on cold pressed, the grain is rougher and round up the pencil tips too fast for fine details!
    But I do love coloured pencils for texture given the rougher texture of the paper and conte crayons also works wonders, especially the white one for highlights, not as opaque as gouache but still!

    I know this is an old video, but I just came across it and I have a question about your process with the bag. How did you erase or cover up the mistake? When you redo it, I can't even tell it was there. Mine would be a slightly different color with white brush strokes from painting over it with gouache or blurred with eraser marks. I would love to know how to fix things so neatly!
    Also, after reading another comment-
    Your voice was lovely and a lovely volume. And if anything the light changes were a wholesome, natural addition. They certainly were not an issue, I was more focused on what you were actually doing. They actually gave me a sense of the quiet passing of time.

    • @juliannaswaney8472
      @juliannaswaney8472  Před 10 dny +1

      Hi! Thanks for your nice comment about the sound and light:) As for fixing the lettering on the bag: I didn't actually paint that area at all, I just left it the white of the paper. I also did the lettering with a very soft pencil, so it erased fairly easily. If it had been over paint it would have been more of a problem, and I probably would have just fixed it in Photoshop😅

About the moving the picture while taping it, i literally got the sturdy cardboard back from a watercolor paper and taped the whole thing with package tape (just to make masking tape attire to the surface anyway you would rip the cardboard) with that you can tape your artwork to a ground thats moveable :3 (aso some ppl use wooden boards)
      And yes this paper is really bad. When i had that one i trashed like 80% of the drawings because of the weird texture my paint made. Now im only using arches and the hot pressed is awesome. Sorry for my bad english!
