  • Where to buy the real Chinese table tennis rubber? What Rubber Ma Long use? These are some questions that you search for? Today I will show you the Truth and some Myths about Chinese DHS rubbers. Ma Long plays with a customized rubber and it has a very low throw angle.
    You should understand why the pro has chosen his equipment. Don't just copy their equipment (blade and rubber). Ma Long has a reason to pick his best equipment. And this equipment maybe won't suit your playing style.

    This is a fantastic explanation of rubbers and the importance of finding one which actually suits the user and his/her skill level and ability. There is too much fallacy and too much marketing behind much of what people find. They think the potency of their play is in the exact replication of the tool, but it is not. Thanks for sharing!

    Hi, Many thank for your videos, especially "Yin pai" principle: After watching your video and practicing, my backhand became more stable and spinny. Before using this technique I always tried to keep my arm under the pressure during playing. There is a huge stereotype: The more expensive rubber is - the better it plays. I used spinlord RD1 blade with used Tenergy 05, because a local coach recomended me te setup, but recently I`ve bought DHS all blade with milkyway(Yinhe, Galaxy) 9000E MEDIUM + PALIO AK47 YELLOW and It`s easier for me to play, to control the ball.

    Absolutely right. Each player has his own game and has to find the rubber and bat that works for them. I knew someone at Li Ning and they gave me a DHS racquet and Hurricane rubber with blue sponge. I like to spin but I could never get use to that racquet.

    Interesting, I never knew about the low throw. The backhand rubber I use ( Yasaka Original XHG) has a throw angle of about 3.6, while my forehand rubber (DHS Skyline 2 Neo) has a throw angle of 5.2
    The Yasaka is more bouncer and quite a bit less tacky, how ever I got it in 2.0mm thickness while the Skyline is 2.2mm thickness.
    Which one do you think would best suit the Chinese style forehand play?

  • @BenjiBear
    @BenjiBear Před 6 lety

    I tend to have long arm loops. I find slow rubber such as rubber designed to use speed glue , but without the speed glue, allows the ball to stay on my bat long enough for my forehand loop. Whatever bat you have you can devise a way to play.

    so in a way and for a certain category of players - and someone please correct me if I am wrong - the professional rubbers like Ma Long uses are more forgiving. For example if playing a heavy topspin loop a player has to balance between forward power and rotation (brush) power. Too much forward power and the ball is too long. Not enough brush, there's only little topspin effect. So in order to increase spin, the ball must be brushed harder. Which means the stroke must be faster (faster arm movement). With that, the ball likely gets also more forward power which may result in a shot too long (missing the table). One of the consequences of using non-pro (normal) rubber therefore should be that there will be a comparably smaller vertical corridor in terms of hitting point of the ball relative to the upper edge of the net for a given maximum stroke power.
    With the professional rubbers, the throw angle is in fact lower and the racket feels like "dead" - means it is not very bouncy, but the corridor (angle between hitting point of the ball and the upper edge of the net) should be bigger for still hitting and not missing the table especially for high powered strokes (increased vertical corridor = increased maximum stroke power before ball too long).
    My interpretation of how a pro-racket should feel is that a heavy topspin power player can hit the ball much harder, even from seemingly impossible vertical angles, thus also brushing more which lets the ball spin even faster and finally still hit the table. On the other hand any low powered ball the player tries to return with a "pro" racket where he relies on passive bouncing power of the racket only (meaning without him stroking) may find its way directly into the net. I wished there was a way to test this in real life. One thing's for sure, the professional playing style is very exhausting when compared to amateur levels. So keeping (or building) an excellent physical condition is mandatory before even thinking of buying pro equipment.

  • @BenjiBear
    @BenjiBear Před 6 lety

    I have some favorite jabbing sidespin shots that work with high tacky chinese rubber but do not work with Xiom pro V. Xiom seems to react less to spin but still generates spin when you engage the rubber. Best to pick a rubber that suits you and keep practicing.

    Hey, I am from China. About a year ago, the dhs company sold these custom rubbers. Compared with rubbers on the market, their sponges are harder and therefore stronger and have a lower curvature, but they are more expensive. Since Chinese rubber is different from other products, it is more viscous, so the hitting action also needs to be changed

Not that many people in my club use them some do and I tried one DHS Hurricane 8 and I liked it, I have an Off-/Off blade (Xiom vega pro) and it has some flex and a softer touch so I think it would suit a hard rubber but I am interested in which Chinese rubbers last long with their tackiness, and which are the faster ones, I liked how Hurricane 8 was linear and because of that I felt like it was controlled, but I read some reviews that said it doesn't last that long so I wanted to know which Chinese rubbers would you recommend? I think all players has to develop bad technique before they can develop good technique. Example: first you need to learn how to smash. Soft bouncy rubbers are good for this, but these rubbers are not good for countering topspin and generally not good for learning how to intersect the path of the ball with your racket trajectory.

    Sorry for raising another type of arguments here EmRatThich, I am playing table tennis in Hong Kong and like I am coached by a Chinese style coach. I was using the Hurricane 3 since I was 12 and now I am 20. I was using the normal one till 16 and changed to the "province" rubber after that. For those who are taught in the "Chinese table tennis philosophy" you've mentioned, they may like the DHS HIII rubber that for province or even the national team, may be I have enough power for it. Once I have some balls by the National Rubber, they are softer and faster and moreover, more spin. The most important reason why I got the province rubber and national rubber is that Hong Kong is near China and there are some sources for the province rubber (there are too much fake national rubber these years) and the national rubber, which is sold by the coaches and DHS.

    Hi Coach,
    I am very confused about Chinese rubber. I am searching for Chinese rubbers for my new blade.
    I found many articles in which, it is written that it is necessary to use a booster(Falco or Revolution No.3 X) on the Chinese rubber.
    But I also found warnings on the booster:
    ============================
    Warning: No chemical treatment on rubbers is allowed by the actual regulations of ITTF.
    My question:
    ========
    if a booster is illegal to apply on the Chinese rubber. Then, how Chinese rubbers(DHS) are allowed in table tennis matches?
    I think MA Long is also using Chinese(DHS) rubber. Please clarify my doubt.

    Since ma long uses a very low throw angle rubber, but with a very high throw angle blade (hurricane long 3) , shouldnt his shots be medium throw?

      yes. That's why both Ma Long, Wang Liqin and many others use good looping blade (OFF- blade) quick give good feeling and high throw angle. The blade will give you dwell time and spin. In general, low throw rubber goes well with high dwell time blade.

    • @KinshukJoshi
      @KinshukJoshi Před 7 lety

      Mantas Liachauskas tabletennisdb is the website, which gives this data. You will have to spend time to compare between blades and rubber. All Chinese non tacky rubbers have low throw angle.

      are you saying the rubber is too slippery? then you need to replace the rubber

  • @alonfire1337
    @alonfire1337 Před 7 lety +15

    The throw angle of chinese rubber is especially low because of the tacky top sheet that has nothing to do with the hardness of the sponge. The harder the rubber the more racket speed you need to make optimal contact with the ball and utilize the power of the rubber. So the throw angle is low because the top sheet is tacky and produces a lot of spin in combination with a blade/wood that also has a low throw angle. The Tempo that the rubber of ML long produces is really high so if your stroke is to slow you are just not to able to produce enough spin to put the ball on the table. This is confirmed by Timo Boll who uses a Tenergy which is much slower. During the last world championship when he played Double with ML he tried his rubber and said it is much faster and spinny. In the chinese Super league during Training other players tried Timo Bolls racket and they where not able to put the Ball on the other side of the table with thier technique. During the beginning of this year Ovcharov got some H3 from ZJK and startet to practice but he had no feeling and touch so he gave up on that. Donic/ESN is now working hard to produce a pro player version for Ovcharov because they don t want him to use tenergy anymore.

      Why does Ma Long also use the Hurricane 3 for his backhand?

    • @alonfire1337
      @alonfire1337 Před 7 lety

      Good question. He is not using the blue sponge H3 on the backhand side. So I guess it is a rubber especially made for him ( H3 Top sheet and Tin Arc rubber). He changed from Tenergy because the plastik ball required more spin and controll which is provided by the tacky top sheet.

    I bought a Chinese racket Yinhe worth 3000 ru. so I thought the quality is no different and play! but the quality let down the top veneer of the racket flew off, glued on the water.! I thought this was just an isolated case, but my friend also had a dhs racket, also about 5000ru. And the veneer also fell off. I bought Chinese rubber, it really plays differently. That is, the sponges even differed. and an indicator of your advice, for me it’s better to buy a high-quality racket, and not a Chinese one. I know for sure the rebound and that it will last a long time

    I really love you coaching videos! But i am not convinced about this chinese rubber. Firstly, there are several images and videos found online that verify that chinese players use booster on their rubbers, which has the effect of making the rubber softer and more elastic, not hard and dead. Secondly, comared to euro rubbers, i have always found that chinese rubbers have quite low throw angles, which makes sense because they are not as bouncy and the tackiness slows down the ball on flatter hits. The videos you have show are more a result of Ma Long's elite serve and attack technique, you can find several players make similar shots with high throw rubbers like tenergy and other tensors.
    Either way, I thank you very much for the time you put into the video. I can't speak for the other viewers, but I am not very preoccupied with what equipment the professionals use. I LOVE your videos explaining tactics, fundamentals, and your table tennis highlights like the chinese trials video. You did a very good job explaining the various types of equipment (blades and rubbers) in a previous video, I dont think you have to make more!
    grateful for your video Mr. EmRat!

    Hi EmRat,
    I just have one question that most people are having in their mind.
    If the commercial DHS rubbers are different from real DHS rubbers that zhang jike or ma long uses, then can you please suggest some rubbers that are most close to the playing characteristics of DHS hurricane 3 neo that Zhang Jike uses?
    Your videos are so good and have helped me a lot. Thanks.

      You can get Provincial hurricane 3 blue sponges through various online stores, then boost them.
      However its not worth paying more for those rubbers as they cost about 50 USD, just get hurricane 3 neo, they play good enough and cost almost half that.
      EDIT: I have both provincial and commercial neo rubbers, not worth the extra money especially when unboosted.
