I bought one of these drills. I was very impressed with it, for the cost. I used it to drill through my truck's frame. It was a double channel frame. It did great, I just had to back the cutter out once it cut through the first frame rail and clear out the slug then cut through the second frame rail.
They really are great bits of kit. Cheers J

Wow. I am new to your channel. Personable stuff. You got me hooked. Variety is the spice of life. I say, jazz it up, take the gear, review it but be honest. Your critique is valued. Now a days any manufacturer worth their salt will provide you product and not cramp your style. Take the path. You can always revert if it doesn't work out.
Well Joshua - that Mag drill sure is terrific value for money, there’s nothing available to touch it at the price you stated. The drill platform you constructed on the table leg was a master stroke, so simple in design, but just the job. I have one of those and it's decent. I already had the annular cutters and a R8 adapter for my mill. It makes boring large holes a breeze.
I really like the new version even better but hate the metric annular cutters with the quick attach feature. All my cutters are the Weldon type hence you need an adapter to use them or buy all new cutters 🤨
The new version requires the magnetic to be turned on before the drill can be engaged and the double dove-tail allows the unit to be more compact and drill chuck friendly 😉
A simple wiring fix would be to cut the input voltage wire to the spindle switch and splice that into the output voltage wire from the electro magnet switch. Wire nut and tape the old spindle wire for safety and now your spindle cannot operate without the magnet engaged
I bought one of these last year to build a welding table. I drilled 166 16mm holes in the 12mm steel table top and the drill didn’t skip a beat. Brilliant bit if kit.

@@sedulousdabbler5468 it's relatively simple but I was dubious about sharing it as I'm not a qualified electrician etc and could get me in trouble. I looked in side it though and its only wires and a rectifier for the DC magnet. Just need to re cut all the wires so the drill switch can only be live once the magnetic switch is live. Will take about an hour with a bit of head scratching and labeling. Cheers J

I bought that diode laser after seeing one actually work on your last video and it will be great for my shop. I mainly do CNC plasma art and am trained in design on the computer. I would love to see more of the smithing, but I think many of us also need to make things around the shop to become more useful, and I like your frugal but effective approach. I had been looking at Vevor’s hydraulic packs for a possible blacksmith press, but I don’t think they are 2-stage, bi-directional. If you could do a video about their line, or about making a press, I’d love it.

I need to drill 4 holes in my 4-post car ramps so that I can secure my (very old and heavy) vise in the corner for when I need to use it (space is at a premium); a mag drill purchase does seem excessive for the job, but I’m mighty tempted on the back of your excellent review.
As for the channel, I like pretty much all of your content; it would be great to see the workshop completed (appreciate funding may be preventing this), and I love the way you do things like creating a plasma table for peanuts by adapting other kit, or your reviews like the Rohr kit and the diy clean air-supply mask.
Your ‘mother is the necessity of all invention’ approach when lots of money is not a solution, is both humbling and very enlightening.
Of course, having skills by the bucket-load helps!
Thank you so much Ian. I've wanted a mag drill for a long time but always been able to 'manage' with out. It's one of those once you've got one you'll use it for loads of projects. Same as my plasma, I've managed without but with one you can really fly through projects. At the moment I seem to be getting attention of sponsors for tools so I'm making the most of opportunity. However I'm conscious not to drown out my other projects especially forging my sculptures again. Thing is with blacksmithing is it's self sustainable and so doesn't line pockets of corporations so it's difficult to get funding than less I simply save money to fund the projects. I've tried getting commissions but I've not had many wanting to spend the money on quality forge work for a while. I'll think of something though. All the very best. Cheers J

Nice bit of kit. I'd consider putting a cover plate over the magnet switch to avoid accidentally disengaging the magnet. You can get these in a few sizes for push buttons and smaller switches.

I just do welding as a hobby, but I love your videos on equipment. I learned a lot from them, from how you use them, but also I've really enjoyed the tips you say when reviewing them. Also love the modifications you do on your equipment that REALLY helped me be better at a hobby that I absolutely love doing. So I would personally love seeing more product reviews (as long as you keep them honest and provide tips and show mods you do). On the other hand I enjoy a lot of the other stuff you do. Maybe a mix of the two would be best?

Personally I really like your new outro, the perfect combination of a little kick in the bum as well as being motivated to do something after watching another one of your videos! Regarding the way your videos and yourself are taking: I enjoy watching every video and you've got to do what brings more profit. In the long run I'd love to see some blacksmithing again or maybe some breath taking projects like the butterfly lanterns for the restaurant but I'll be watching every video and enjoy it for sure

Question: With using chuck, most Mag drills are actually adjustable for the drill body to slide higher on the pinon track it is attached to (and many people with different Mag drills don't even realize they can do that). Usually there is a hex key nut that allows you to slide the drill motor up much higher, for use of the chuck and then you slide it down when using shorter annular cutters. Just wondering if you missed that feature on the unit where you wouldn't have to drill off the edge of the table surface.

Never had one of these, probably don't actually need one but I'm quite tempted now! I think it can take the place of my cheap underpowered drill press too, hopefully. Although the price has gone up by around 30%. Interestingly, they are now shipping them with variable speed and the safety switch you suggested, at least in the US.

the Hitachi one I have is wired the same way ,,, its crazy that theres no interlock on the switch , but its how it is , after loosing the alignment on a few tricky holes by hitting the wrong switch once or twice you soon learn .... coolant from a spray bottle makes a huge difference to the life of the broaches too ,,, I just use the water soluble cutting fluid from power band saws , works the very best

I just used one of these on a project drilling 80 1/2” holes in squat racks at a university fitness center. I used the chuck and shortened some drills. I was using it out of orientation, on it’s side with the face with buttons parallel to the ground. I know that’s using it out of its intended orientation, but the magnet was not strong enough, it needed a clamp to stay in place. I’ve used high quality mag drills in that orientation and they’ve been fine with it. My advice going in is, it’s a budget tool, does a phenomenal job drilling straight down, but be kind in your expectations, considering the price point.

I have one of these and the instructions say that to get the full magnetic force it needs to be attached to some steel that is at least 20mm thick, so if you have it attached to thin steel, it won't hold.
@@stuartrechter5175 it holds fine and considering most I-beams have a web that's only 8mm thick that these are designed to be used on I would say that they say 20mm thick so they can get away with it if it fails. From My understanding of magmatism it would be fine on any thickness as long as your getting full surface contact. Cheers J

Like most good tools that where made at time where people wanted things to last.... Its a shame but the UK exported most of our old kit to india on the second hand market. now we are swomped with manufactured obsolescence and poor quality. cheers J

I think I would have used two square tubes for the table to make sure it cant rotate when drilling, and with a bolt on a corner It it might clamp more securely:) other than that a great video as always 😀

I'd be really worried about using anything electrical from Vevor as it looks like none of their goods meet UK standards, I was trying to purchase a welder and sander and couldn't find any for sale then I came across the trading standards website, there's currently 46 items on manufacturers recall due to not being UK compliant due to bad earthing, poor plugs and some items when checked had extra wire soldered to the outside of fuses, so bypassing the actual fuse cutoff, there was also a further 60+ reports/items sold by them stopped by customs that were non compliant.
I have/had one of these. Worked fine for a few months but randomly decided to let me switch the magnet off without stopping the motor automatically…. Nearly a very serious incident… it span round a few times (Wallace and grommet style) pulled the power cable from the back of the drill leaving live exposed wires but luckily knocked the trip switch.
I replaced it with a rotobroch commando 40 for not much more money.
I do like to check the wiring on these cheap Chinese machines as every so often there are faults that could be hazardous. A kill switch isn't a bad idea to add just in case. Cheers J
@@joshuadelisle I didn’t check the wiring, but I do remember checking when it was new what it’s functions were… ie not going into self destruct mode… 😂 I think mine was wired correctly but it’s got some relays and mossfetts inside, so I can only assume one of those crapped out…. I turned it into a tiny line boring machine for boring out bosses and bushes on smaller diggers.
Could you hook up one of those AC a motor controllers to make it variable speed would that be a option . I see them on line foe around $30 CDN
Having work in a shipyard. Mag drills are used all the time.
One big safety issue. All way use a strap or safety chain to the drill.
For whatever reason the power is cut off. That drill will fall. Even if you don't get hit, that expense drill bits is toast.

Does the arbour of that mag drill not fit with a morse taper, all the ones I have used in the past and the one I purchased recently to make some railings have a morse taper that takes the rotabroach adapter. Mind you for the price difference if that one has not got a morse taper I could live it as mine cost £450 and I thought that was cheap as most were over a thousand.

I didn't even secure it to my table top, mainly due to the fact that I was using a 15 lbs drill vise. It's not flimsy at all as to what others have claimed it to be. Make sure the locking nuts and levers are secured and there won't be any issues with light pressure and patience. I was able to drill through aluminum, plastic, and steel (steel took a while) with no problems at all. Yeah it took a little longer than a regular drill press, but I don't have the space OR the money for one.The instruction manual was worthless, but luckily assembling the press was intuitive. However, the manual would be good for ordering replacement parts if needed. There is a nice breakdown of the parts that are included in the kit. Before ordering, make sure it is compatible with your unit, it is clearly stated what models the press is compatible with.This was an excellent purchase for $40!!

Thanks. I am looking at getting a magnetic drill press and this was an excellent video. Great price! But the fact that the magnet and drill switches are disassociated really bothers me.
One question - On their site Vevor says, "Besides, our magnetic drill can only be used with hollow boring bits, not with annular bits." I cannot find an explanation of the diff on google. In what way are those bits that you used not annular bits?

Hi. Thank you. I've drilled stainless with one before and works fine. It would be better to have a variable speed so you can get the lower rpm suited for stainless steel. Just make sure there is plenty of cutting fluid and both the steel and bit don't get too hot or it'll course problems. Cheers J

Theyre site says "Max Boring Diameter: 0.5inch/13mm", do I understand this correctly, your drill bit can only be 13mm wide, or is that the max chuck size? How wide of a hole can you drill?
I don't think the guy who wrote the description actually knows what it is, it also says it's not for annular cutting which is precisely what is meant for. It came with a 27mm annular cutter and I believe the speed is fine up to 40mm. If you get a twist drill attachment the chucks are rated to 13mm but you can use larger bits with 13mm shanks. Could this be used with a 2 and 1/2 or 3-in diameter bit to drill through a shipping container wall they're only about a 16th thick? They are core ten steel and are eating up the hole saws.
I think 45mm diameter is the recommended maximum for this however it probably would do it. The only issue is you can't adjust the speed for the larger diameters. Personally I would use a plasma torch instead as you can use it for cutting everything on a shipping container and it is a similar price less the compressor. if you get a cut55 with a p80 torch and pilot arc youll do well. I do have a plasma cutter but I already have the insulation & wood on the wall. I am a little concerned about setting it on fire. We are finishing the house and did not cut the holes before now. I don't know what I was thinking just to get it finished. I enjoyed your video it convinced me to try a cutter. I sent vevor a message I don't know if they share them with you. My thought is will it hold a 2 1/2 " bit I would buy one anyway and try it.
@@daleavant9788 it would probably work fine. Note that the thinner the section the less the magnet has to hold onto so have caution when using larger bits. It may be worth having a kill switch nearby. Cheers J

Firstly you have to pay the bills! .... Then you can afford to play with stuff.
Some of the pieces and things you do are .... inspirational! Please do not stop!
Having said that we are all in the real world and we all know how it goes. You see a shiny new toy and you want it. But (and it is a Big but) if you are clear what toys are tied in to what kind of promotion and you stay true to yourself all will be well!
It will be tempting to take the new bit of kit that they give you (on condition of good revue) and to polish a turd. In my opinion that will be a mistake. You will end up saying two different bits of kit are the best and your credibility will be gone. Once it is gone you will never recover!
A simple statement of weather you bought it yourself or if you are expected to do a revue on it ..... and crucially not lying about how good it is will be all that is needed. You may need to pass on some lucrative (in the short run) deals .... and posting about those is a good thing. It will enhance your credibility and it will refine the kit you get offered to revue!
Showing how you would modify kit to make it better (or how it is not possible to do) is also a great thing!

The chassis, frame, switches etc identical even the yellow colour... loads of them on ebay, ironically the branding for the £150 one on the website is even the chinese name lol whereas the branding for the 264 says Vevor... check out the pictures of the 150 one lol

Just got one of these. It flexes WAY too much as soon as you put any torque on the hand wheel. Absolutely useless as is.
Be careful with this company, if the product arrives faulty your on your own, emails “undeliverable” phone “not taking calls”, web site, “server not found”, they exist to sell then disappear, buyer beware
