Now, the boy's father + reading "the comic book" + the boy's interest in dark things as a try to escape from what's going on around him, that's what would create one really deadly combination...

This is what I imagine when a horror story is from America, its so dark, disturbing and eerie, its so classic. I was so traumatized as a kid watching this movie, even as an adult is still gives me the creeps. They don't make horror movies like this anymore. Fantastic

Even though the early 1980s had many people fear the Cold War wasn't going to end well. The Latin American debt crisis. President Reagan wanted more nuclear missiles in Europe, envisioned the Star Wars defense system and the "Evil Empire" speech reflected the "Red Scare" at a time "the Bomb" was still making everybody nervous. The Cold War, Berlin Wall and Apartheid did fall, but only near the end of the decade. Unemployment and economic crisis were a huge problem in many Western countries in the early years of the decade and the high speculation led to a bubble which fatigued in 1987 and burst in 1989. AIDS caused many victims because governments were slow to inform the general public on this disease as most people at first dismissed as just a problem for blacks, gays and drug users. TV shows and movies were extremely escapist and PCs and video games were prohibitively expensive. MTV did bring music videos on TV, but the downside was that how a pop star looked and danced became more important than the music, which was now created by computers, becoming increasingly sappy and repetitive as samples became the norm, becoming a disadvantage for those who still wanted to use actual instruments, chords and tunes. Metal and rap were seen as crime-mongering and even "satanic" as a whole. Also drugs went artificial during this time, turning Florida into a Crapsaccharine World. The nuclear power plant explosion in Chernobyl caused another major fear among people about the dangers of nuclear power.
This theme is one of the first ones I taught myself on the piano. The other one is the piano piece playing when Wilma is reading the note Henry lured her to Amberson Hall with.
Such a great intro. All three of the actors are great( especially the son who was Stephen Kings son) and the Creep puppet actually made me kinda scared of the window in my room. I hope that puppet is somewhere is good condition
Tom Atkins is awesome as Billy's father. Tom Atkins is awesome in a lot of films including the awesome 1980 horror film "The Fog", the awesome 1981 film "Escape From New York". He was awesome as Dr. Dan Challis in the awesome 1982 horror movie "Halloween III: Season of the Witch", loved his role in the awesome 1986 sci-fi horror film "Night of the Creeps". So cool he starred in the awesome 1987 movie "Lethal Weapon" as Michael Hunsaker.

The only other horro-anthology in its league was Tales From the Darkside almost a decade later. They don't make 'em like this anymore. The DVD opens like this; no title screens or ads, just the suburban house and the keyboard.
This was the first horror movie I watched when I was a child. My dad had it for VHS (that'll tell you how old I am, lol), along with the sequel. I'd watch them all the time. M favorite tales were Father's Day and the Crate.
Love this movie. Tim Burton, if you're reading this, stop doing Disney, and get back to what you're good at and adapt this movie, and cast me it in it as Ted Danson's role and Leonardo DiCaprio as Leslie Nielsen's role. :)
My mom still has the 1990 Cheesy shield VHS of this. On 2/10/2017, me and my dad were gonna watch it but i was 13 almost 14 at the time. When i was younger the pumpkin zooming in scared me. Now 17 almost 18, it still will do it.
I love Creepshow! There is now a series based on the 1982 classic with new, spine chilling tales! The season 2 episode, " The Model Kid" reminds me a lot of the opening and ending credits of the movie!

Love that retro horror theme. I always thought that they should have saved The Crate for last, though.
I vaguely remember (may be wrong) as a kid "The Crate" was the last tale shown because it was edited for time on TV.

They probably felt that Crate was the longest so they had to put it not at the end, but close to it.
They should have concised 'Crate' a bit and, yes, that would've been a great final.
It's loosely based on the actual controversy the ec horror comics of the 50s creepshow is based on went through.
