"In the Still of the Night" is the only song to have charted on the Billboard Hot 100 three separate times, by the same artist with the same version each time. After initially reaching #24 in 1956, it was released again in 1960 and reached #81. Then more than a year later in 1961 it reached #99. All three releases are the exact same original version and same record #.
As per "Goldmine", this record is the 1961 release which debut 1/23/1961 and peaked at #99 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart.
This is the original mono mix as heard when this was a huge hit on AM Top 40 radio on stations like WABC New York.

The #1 Oldie on WCBS FM Oldies 101.1 in NYC from the 70s into the 90s
This song is one that reminds me of family on Friday nights singing old 50s doo-wop from their youth growing up in Philadelphia. We would move furniture to do dances like the jitterbug, the Stroll, & my favorite the Twist. Good times 🙂
✨❤️❤️ My Forever Favorite Song...❤️✨✨
Freaky Friday....I was a young guy in the mid 60s but I always loved this song...
Thanks 😊 man...
Back in 1973, a Wash,DC Oldies Station had listeners send in their top 10 favorite oldies. They tabulated a Top 300 of all time based on what listeners sent. This song was number one!
1973? WABC, which was arguably the first oldies station, only started that format in 1972. And a song that was only 17 years old at the time was considered "oldies" then? By that measure, a song from 2000 could be played on oldies radio now.
Yep wmod was an oldies station that played 50s 60s music.
WMOD was an oldies station which started in Wash, DC in later 1968. They played music from 50s-60s. Back then music was changing so fast that a song from 1964 could sound like an "oldie" in 1968. They would mix in a new song here & there. At one point they concentrated on pre-Beatle oldies. They turned Top 40 in 1976 & then became a country station in 1977.
One of my favorite 50's records, this one never gets old. I had the first release, but who knows where it went. I've had a reprint for decades. Thanks Spence for this post. Sound is excellent!
cj
WCBS-FM always had this song #1 on their top 500 surveys. This was before being hiJACKed by CBS brass. Sadly you probably won't hear this song ever again on that station.
NEPatriot, THAT’S RIGHT! Even other Oldies stations also before they were changed or died
Thank you, Irishman for the amazing song
A fine example of classic doo-wop: big in the '50s and early '60s.
I remember when "DIRTY DANCING" brought this tune back to the surface, it is a great tune!!!.
This was my parent's & other relatives music when they were growing up in Philadelphia. We used to sing these songs every Friday night after work & Jitterbug in the kitchen. Good times!
Thank you for the awesome tunes young man !!!! Beautiful melody and harmony from the guys !!!
Oh Lord thanks for the music!!!
My original release 45 spells it "Nite" and has more high end. I wonder if the original master tape got destroyed or lost, because all subsequent re-releases sounded inferior.
My uncles who are in their early 80"s used to sing this diddy ALL THE TIME.
Thanks for your CZcams page and sharing your Gold 45"s .
Thank god for the 1950's Yes Doo wop!
The original version of this song is celebrating its 60th Anniversary of its release this year. And that third release is celebrating its 55th.
I agree, all some people want to do on here is start meaningless fights. i just come here because I love the music. And when we do disagree about something, we don`t have to be disagreeable about it. It is my pleasure to meet you.
Back in the 50s my big sister bought this recording and at the time it was entitled "I Remember" from the second line in the song. Maybe "In the Still of the Night" by Cole Porter could have been a copyright infringement, I don't know but the title evolved into this. Just a little trivia, it is a nice song regardless and thanks for uploading. :)
What a fantastic recording.
From The Irishman...The best song
They didn't look Irish.
newjerseybt He’s referencing a movie not the music artists. This song was recently used in a film called The Irishman.
I love it keep it coming
This song and daddy's home seemed to be on every oldies album made
I subscribe because of this man's transparency. IDK, I could be wrong.
Beautiful song ♥️♥️♥️
reminds me of my fave movie dirty dancing
Everybody mentioned in their comments about “Irishman”, but I heard this song in “Dirty dancing “
I have this song on the maxi single of dirty dancing record
I have the "L.P." of DIRTY DANCING , I remember the scene with "BABY and JOHNNY" slow dancing to this tune in his bed room.
ooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhh yessssssss, I love this song...
Excelente
Perhaps the most amazing part of this song is that it was recorded in the basement of a Catholic high school, literally...
that is a good thing to know!!!!!, just like tommy james recorded "HANKY PANKY" in his garage, and the record label liked it so much, they pressed it "AS IS"( MORISS LEVY of ROULETTE RECORDS).
O.M.G.! Okay that does it -- this IS my favorite all time song ... a little before my time, but still 'in my time' ... well, actually timeless. It's 'our song. Heart throb.Hey there, Mr WABCRADIO77 ... is your middle name Cousin Brucie? ha ha -- you should actually charge for this. Fantastic collection.
Well, thanks for being respectable about it...people love to pick fights around CZcams, therefore I try not to even offer a grain of opinion or a fun fact. I was young and I remember distinctly the title being "I remember". Sometimes they can re-do things during the early stages. My sister who has passed on would always remember that small fact when this came on. I wish I could find it LOL. but thanks none-the-less, for your comment. Good day! :)
O irlandês! Filmaço de Scorcese
Please, please, for every single play also the b-side. Thanks!
Same version, same record number, different label variations for each release.
Musica dez!!
a claasic doo wop ballad
Vim pelo o Irlandês.
روعه ..
somebody was a marketing genius !
a classic doo wop ballad
Got me curious - a little google foo and I found the wikipedia entry for this song mentions "The Crests recorded a cover version, titled "I Remember", for their 1960 album "The Crests Sing All Biggies" on Coed Records." - maybe your sister had the Crests cover...?
I have an Italian boyfriend… next time I’m in New York we are going to dance!.
Frank Zappa approves this song!!!!
If I may respectively disagree with you. I am old enough to remember when this song first came out, it was always called "In The Still Of The Night". Anyway, I don`t think you can copyright song titles.
2 different songs under the same name the other one is older than this and then there is another song these guys do that a truck goes by the studio and you can hear it
Who came after Irishman??
Yes
Dirty Dancing
that "FLICK" brought this tune back to the surface, it a great ""DOO WOP" tune!!!.
Blue night?????
who else could finish the movie
Irishman the best movie after the godfather
Record is off-centered, but sounds great otherwise!
some times that happens at the factory, I take care of that by removing the hub, and reposition the record so it is not off center esp. if I am going to record the tune to another media.
This song is so incredibly played out, I have learned to hate the sound of it.
