Trying STREET FOOD in the largest city of Romania! Bucharest! ⇩⇩Click ‘show more’⇩⇩
In today’s video, we spend a whole day eating only local and traditional Romanian street foods.
LUCA: First we stop by at the local bakery for a quick bite to eat. Ordering the Luca Haidusesc (pastry filled with cured meat, cream cheese, and red onion.
OBOR market: Next we explore the biggest fruit and vegetable market in Bucharest. Obor markets! It was here that we tried the famous Mici - Grilled minced meat served in a case of fresh bread and another traditional sausage served with mustard.
SHAORMA Banesa: Lastly we tried eating shawarma at a popular kebab shop. We ordered the chicken kebab filled with tasty gherkins, lettuce, onions, fries and chipotle.

Hey!
My name is Lana and I come from New Zealand!
I chose to leave my job as a nurse to go travelling in 2018, little did I know that I wouldn’t return to my nursing life. I continued on this path of travel to see the world and explore new food and cultures. I have fallen in love with travel and the interesting experiences that come with it. I love making videos and sharing my experiences with you guys!

What are your favourite street foods?
I love some kind of prezels, otherwise everything if I don't get fat especially shaworma. I love mici too but I don't feel I need to eat often. Did you try MUST aka grape juice or not? It looked fresh.
Alin Petrus Yes all of the food here was so good! We revisited the Mici place we loved it so much. Mainly for the people there. No unfortunately we didn’t. Is it grape juice?? I thought it was wine 😅
@@LanaTiare not exactly grape juice -the fresh grapes are smashed and pounded, then left to ferment for two or three days. Then they are pressed. The resulting juice is what you saw there. Tastes like grape juice, but a little fizzy and sweeter. Lightly acoholic as well

@@LanaTiare it's only made in late autumn, as naturally grapes are not ripe in summer. That also explains the hype around it, and why people are gathering around - it's a once a year thing, and it only lasts for about a week or two
Ahh you did find some good food yay! One thing we loved in Romania was the amount of amazing bakeries and how vegan friendly they were for us too! The local markets are so good and cheap - love seeing all the stuff they sell!
Slightly Off The Beaten Track Oh that’s so cool! Yes I wondered what it would be like for a vegan here since a lot of their meals are meat based. But I guess you can find veggie food everywhere and they have so many soups here too!! This day was one of our favourite days here, mainly because of the markets 😄

I like what Carlos is saying about the old ladies. On my trips to Romania, I too have found these old ladies to be adorable. They are so cute in their ways. Very hardworking and nice. And, mici and beer is my favorite Romanian bar food combo too. Very nice video, guys.

@@LanaTiare I'm not Romanian or from Romania. I live in the U.S. but I love Romania so much I visit every year. I have Romanian friends there. Did you try cozonac and papanasi when you were there? Not exactly street food but those are great Romanian delicacies.

10:42 The mayo has just garlic in it. The "chipotle" spicy taste may have come from the spicy sauce, which is made from jalapeno paste and oil. Or even some pieces of pickled jalapeno, but those are only added if you ask for them, same as the spicy sauce.

For all the people of the world: The famous national food "mici" is our national romanian hamburger. Greetings from a Romanian, living abroad (in Quebec, Canada) from so many years. Very nice video, thumbs up, of course.

Carlos is Brazilian, where did you meet him? He's your boyfriend? The Brazilians love pork. Try "icre de peste" from Obor, aka FISH ROES! But to be fresh and from Romanian fishes.. Cook them home, just with some oil on "teflon", that's all! Plus salt. Basically just fry them, if you want to eat something healthy... Try shaworma from Socului especially, if not from Dristos franchise!

My partners Romanian, when we go to stay in his family home I can't go anywhere no one speaks English and don't understand my accent have to take my partner with me lol xx

Giovanni Falcone Thank you!! There were about 5 or so people who told me not to film their stalls. But overall I got a lot of footage and just respected the people who didn’t want to be filmed. I think they’re not used to it here.
@@LanaTiare It's a bit more than that actually... I think it's a legal thing. But if you talk to them respectfully they'll let u do it. I know a couple of rude Italians got in trouble for filming in that market☺
Giovanni Falcone Ah I see, that would make more sense. I did stop filming the people who said I couldn’t film their stalls, but most people didn’t mind or didn’t see me luckily 😅.

2 mici in market Obor cost 6 lei with bred.
The best MICI is in Obor Market ( outside, not inside which you bought them). 13 LEI for those 2 MICI is very expensive. Normally 1 MICI is around 2 lei ( 0.45 dollar american). The best shaorma ( we calling shaorma, not shawarma) is from that shop which you bought it. The best beer is SKOL which you have it 👍 because is not polenta as ingredient. The original beer is without polenta. By the way, you're not american, you're British because of gherkins 😅😅). Americans say pickles
Oh, we couldn't find it, so we settled for this place. It was still very good though. Cool! Glad we found the kebab place then 😆. Haha yes i’m from New Zealand 🇳🇿 actually. But we do use British English. What are your favourite Romanian foods?
@@LanaTiare hi! Happy for your answer ❤🙏 I have few : 1. Bulz ( polenta with cheese, sausage and egg on top) I love it. 2. Sarmale ( cabbage rolls with meat minced pork and rice) you must to add sour cream top of the cabbage rolls and it's very good with polenta ( mamaliga). For dessert you have plenty of sweets or cakes ( the traditional one is cozonac, pasca, salam de biscuiti, poale in brau ( hard to call it but is a big donut fill up with sweet cow's cheese). I love more foods and is hard to explain you if someone can't take you to eat those ones.

@@LanaTiare I have a herited house in a small city,near the black sea coast and i have it closed for years because in that city everybody have it's own house or apartment and i couldn't find anybody to live in this house,not for rent,but for free,to just pay the electricity and water they would consume.And like mine there are a lot of empty houses in that region.
