- In today's episode we're taking a look at all of the recruitable characters and their growth rates in Fire Emblem Echoes. Recently the ISO of Fire Emblem Echoes leaked onto the internet, allowing many players to both datamine the game and play it early. It's unfortunate, but I don't think it will ruin the sales of the game. With this datamine though we now have character artwork of every playable unit in Fire Emblem Echoes, and we can now take a look at their stat growth rates and see how they will be in-game. Obviously there are a teeny bit of spoilers here, because you're finding out everyone you can get along your journey through Valentia. Be sure to let me know your favorite Echoes characters in the comments!

I don't know the official pronunciation, but I've always pronounced it NEH-feh-nee.

Genny, a young girl barely of adult age and a healer gets a godly 60% STRENGTH GROWTH while Atlas, a badass myrmidon gets a 35% Strength growth... What?
Actually, according to the wikia she has 40%.
Also, keep in mind that Strength in Gaiden is used for both weapon and magic damage, so, Genny's 40% STR actually means 40% MAG.
+Luna is Best Waifu I actually didn't look at it that way. Technically it's not strength anymore, they've fused magic and strength into "attack" so hypothetically she could be physically weak but have potent magic. But still, yeah her attacks hurt more than a massive burly guy stabbing you. When you put it into perspective like that it just sounds silly lol
Luna is Best Waifu Not that it matters Atlas has such a high base he ended up with 36 attack rivaling Celica near the end ofhi my game.
Unless she's given a Villager's Fork from DLC, then she can become a Gold Knight, Pegasus Knight, or Priestess with that Strength.
DLC...Ugh.
Who needs that seriously? The game gives you everything to complete the game without it. They even made it easier because the original Gaiden was very limited in his options. Now in Echoes we can select each unit's place, modify inventory, use a forge feature, etc.
And this game is Awakening-friendly. You can grind to death in this game if you are having trouble. In my case, I don't even need to grind. The game gives me enough battles in the story to level up almost all my units and promote them (The only one that I don't use is Forsyth).
Why is everyone super hot in this game?
Johnny Evans Because Hidari is a far better artist for Fire Emblem than Kozaki, not to to Kozaki was bad or anything HELL NO.
It's just Hidari is better.
Different styles. Hidari's designs are made to emulate the GBA era FE characters, while Kozaki uses a much more modern and anime kind of style (though FE as a whole has always looked pretty anime). I feel that Kozaki works really well for the newer games with his designs generally feeling very modern, but I hope Hidari handles all of the remakes from now on, as his style is able to really articulate that older feeling.

A big, big thing to keep in mind here is how promotions work in Echoes. Rather than a set boost like say promoting to Paladin from Cavalier in other games gives you +2 in everything (don't actually remember but just throwing stats around), in Gaiden and Echoes when you promote, your stats are all brought up to that class' base stats. So a unit like Atlas with great strength but poor speed would greatly benefit from the mercenary line since his very low speed of 3 would jump to the respectable amount of 10.

Dear god Est, what have they been feeding you?! 50 DEFENSE GROWTH ON A PEGASUS KNIGHT DOES NOT HAPPEN UNLESS YOU'RE NAMED SUBAKI
Est has always been that late game incredible growths unit. You have to baby the crap out of them, so to some they aren't worth it, but her growths were always good!
Est's gaiden version is the only version of her worth using, aside from echoes. Falcoon knights got to deal effective damage against monsters, so she became a literal monster in the sky. Same with palla and catria.

She's superior to Subaki, she actually has a STR growth.
Moises, you might want to rethink that. In echoes, apparently, Falcon knights have been Nerfed to Deal +10 damage to monsters, instead of doing effective damage.
this Fire Emblem game is without a doubt the best we've gotten in a long time can't wait to search those base conversation and those memory fragments they are nailing the story, artstyle, gameplay, combat and character development I have high hopes this will follow suit in the Switch game!

I really liked how the plot progressed in Tellius, and the fact that they spent extra time with details like the racism against laguz and stuff. Definitely two memorable entries. But yes, hopefully this game will be the best in a while!

I am praying for the success of this game, I really want Nintendo to continue these remakes of unlocalized FE games in between the next installment. Especially since some of these games need a bit of tweaking aesthetically and gameplay wise. I would be so happy with a FE 4 remake.
Positive reception from these titles could also influence a few decisions for the next mainline games. Though I feel like Pair Up is almost guaranteed to come back, but oh well. Good Vid! Really hyped for Shadows of Valentia.
Glad you enjoyed it! And I definitely agree. Some people think the "Echoes" subtag could mean it will be a part of a series, like for example FE6 could be "Fire Emblem Echoes - Young Lion of Elibe" or something along those lines. If so, that would be really exciting. But it would all hinge on Echoes doing well so I'm really hoping it's a home run, too.
If they remake FE6, I hope they forget about ambush spawns... Those ruined the game for me
The ambush spawns wouldn't be so bad if they gave you a hint when will they come. In HM it really sucks if you play it blind.

Noma is the absolute worst character in the game. Trust me, his bases DO NOT make up for his shit growths. Mycen is the Gotoh of Alm's route, and his bases can carry him through Chapter 5. Unsure about the newChapter 6 though.

Also, interesting fact, Camus and the Pegasus sisters are the most recurring characters in the series, appearing in what is now 9 games in the series.
(1-3, BS Senki, 11-13, Heroes, and Echoes.)
Minerva comes close at 8, because the Japanese release of Fates could interact with Cipher codes alongside amiibo, one of which is Minerva, who has her own class, a classic Pegasus Knight.

On terms of playability.
Anna is the most seen overall, this game and its original being the ONLY games she has no appearance in.
Though am I the only one glad Tobin is no longer as weak as he was in Gaiden? It sucked that his stat growths in the past were bad to point of just leaving him away or just used as bait, but to see him with a much better growth than Gaiden, I can't wait to use him.
I'm happy you just showed their new/old art and their stat growths rather than also talking about their story-characters as well, since those parts of them I'd rather find out through gameplay. I'm also amazed that there aren't really any character designs that I don't like among them, since there's usually at least 1 that I just don't like. :O
Yeah, Hidari has done an AMAZING job. I'm not sure if he did the monster artwork, but there's definitely a few of those (now that we have the full art of those) that I think are a bit hit or miss. Thank you for watching :)

Oh thank the lord, these designs are BEAUTIFUL! Beautiful, beautiful, BEAUTIFUL! I was never really into axe users, or knight characters. I was always more into cavalry, mages(Dark or normal), sky knights, archers, or cavaliers. So I get the feeling I'm gonna use a good number of these characters! I'm gonna try to use everyone I can because once natural selection kicks in... you can kiss certain units goodbye for the rest of the story! XD I really wanna use Claire, Boey, and Palla!
Comrades 8% Res growth triggers me for some reason, I don't mind seeing the usual 4s and 0s but for some reason that 8 hits me in the wrong spot

I still wonder about one thing... WHY THESE CRAPPY RESISTANCE GROWTH RATES??? Like wtf, almost every unit in all the FE games is somehow allergic to magic, but in this game it's just savage.

In gaiden, there was this thiing called the "res bus". No one could ride it without any growths in resistance, save for genny and dread fighters. The driver was nomah, with his 14 base. That's all he was good for sadly. Driving the res(istance) Bus and being the staff bot we all never wanted.
If the characters, you know, prayed to Mila and offered better things, like Delthea's tooth, perhaps they'd have actual growths

As much as I like your videos, I feel like you should have added base stats, as those are arguably more important in a game with lower growths.
Would have made sense, huh? I suppose with some finagling I could have squeezed it in there but with everything going on already it would have been tight. Perhaps I can do a base stats discussion moving forward. Good point though, and thank you for watching!
It would make more sense especially for someone like Mycen. Aside his growths, his bases are actually pretty good and can really help you in Chapter 5.
yeah Jaffar in blazing blade comes to mind, one of the best characters in the game due to his amazing bases but pretty horrible growths
Jaffar is cool and all, but FE7 doesn't have low growths, there are a lot of units with average growths/bases that get better. The better the overall growths are, the less effective Pre-promotes are. I still use him because I love his A support with Nino.
I wasn't speaking for FE7 in general just jafar since outside of his skill (45%) and HP (65%) his growths sit in the 10's and 30's range, so when his strength growth is show at an abysmal 15% if you don't take into account that he's 1 point away from maxing it out he could be dismissed as a bad character based on his growths
If you're talking about stats, you could talk about bases as well which matter a LOT. Some bases are changed as well.
Especially when there's one stat that may never increase (or flat out didn't in the original) ;)

I loved the original Gaiden, so I'm excited to use some of the units I was a fan of there. Besides the two lords, Python was my favorite character and with his sleeker design and much better stats he'll definitely be great to use. On Celica's route I'm looking forward to using Deen, his redesign makes him a lot more distinct than he used to be.
Yeah, Python was definitely valuable in my Gaiden playthrough. Did you get any substancial use out of Leon? Mine was a bit eh, he didn't even reach Bowknight status x)
Never liked him as much by comparison. Alm's team has more of a use from the long ranged attacks when Celica has so many mages.
Check the base stats. Gives a whole different spin. Take Catria and Palla for example. Palla has 10 or 15 more growth overall, but Catria starts at lvl 4 opposed to 8(which can be an advantage), and has WAY higher starting stats despite being lower level.
A couple of people mentioned I should have included base stats in this episode, space-wise I think it would have been challenging unless I did one character at a time, but I may go back and make a base stats episode where we put everything together. Thanks for the suggestion!

Echoes was my very first Fire Emblem game and it made me into a fan. I actually bought Fates afterwards and Awakening after that.
I really like the idea of the villager characters. I'm excited to use Gray on the Mercenary path and Python seems like a badass archer, especially since they are capable of attacking at close range. I also really like the look of Boey. Overall, I'm very excited for this game.

Wow I really like these redesigns. The pegasus knight sisters, who I thought looked great in Heroes look fantastic here too.
Game looks pretty nice, hope it's not overly faithful to the point where it's just a shinier re-release of the original, with no meaningful difference in game-play. Will miss Fates pair-up system though, was incredibly fun to use and made for some interesting enemy encounters when they used it.

i like almost all of the characters from both routes but growth stats wise i think i would play through Celica's route first followed by Alm's. at least i would get more practice in learning how to handle Swordsmen characters since during my playthrough of Awakening and Fates the Swordsmen were my weakest part of my team.

Echoes! I am happy with most of the designs. I have been trying to watch this for a couple days or so.

So... just hooooooooow the hell did I miss that Jesse guy?? I rescued Est in the desert prison, but for some very strange and mysterious reason completely overlooked this dude. Ugh, what the hell is wrong with me. Now I have to grind the guy up before I go and beat the pirates haha.

I can deall with him not having an amazing speed growth, because for a while there I thought I was gonna have to play with him at a 10% speed growth and I was like kill me now the things I'll do for this cutie....,
Actually, if you can train boey, he can potentially become Better than Mae. The reason for this is Defense is slightly better than speed in Gaiden/Echoes SOV due to the Map design, enemies you face, and how Damage works. In short, any unit could get attacked from multiple angles. It's better to have defense to tank 2 hits for 2 damage, rather than one hit for 5 or 6. Defense, along with HP, are the most important stats in Echoes SOV/Gaiden. You will do well to utilize your Knights, and more tanky units. Glass cannons are VERY BAD in Gaiden/Echoes SOV.
He's bulkier than Mae though so if Defense is a main part you look in a unit, then Boey is a good choice for you
Lol thanks for explaining how defense works y'all. I've only been playing this game since I was 8. I mean I know he is bulkier and like cool but I feel like bulk is not as great on a mage that is reducing their own hp to cast spells. Yeah it's cool that he has a good def growth and I'm going to be exploiting that niche when I use him he's just obviously not a very traditionally appealing mage which is what I was getting at

Delta kai09 Maid wasn't in Gaiden so even I feel that I can safely say no they won't be returning as a class also you play Alm/Celica parallel to one another in the same game if I understand this right

Echoes...definitely something I have to preorder before it's too late...The fact the 3 Pegasus sisters from the first game are here also makes me want to believe Marth has all the more chances of a cameo, but still no guarantees.Not really sure who I'd use yet; besides growths, I also tend to favor characters based on personality as well...however, Dean and Sonia do look pretty intriguing...
Gaiden is in the same universe as FE1 but on a different continent. And as far as my knowledge on playing Gaiden Marth does not make a cameo. It explains why the Pegasus Sisters are in tho. Who knows they may put him in but it's highly unlikely
I think if he's not at least a DLC character, it's a huge missed opportunity to tout the series mascot. I mean seriously, he might be busy rebuilding, but he's right across the sea. C'mon IS.
Any list of the songs used in the video? More so, the song used during the Atlas and Leon segment?
Most of the music are early game chapter / battle music from Gaiden and Echoes. The first song in the video is the Echoes recruitment theme, it plays again later in the video as the original Gaiden version. On the Atlas and Leon segment it's the Echoes remake of Battle Map 2 (Celica)!
The only exception is a track from Shadow Dragon for a particular character but that's because of spoiler reasons

Kamui is a godless heathen. Valbar offers all of his tomatoes to Mila, he doesn't like tomatoes

Super excited for this game as a relatively new fan to the franchise. Started in sacred stones a couple months before Fates released.
Why are all their res growth rates like 0-5% though? Are there no res tanky units?
Resistance in this game is really low, but the reason why is because the res tanky units start with high base res that stays effective throughout the whole game, with Mae having 10, Conrad having 11, and Nomah (being the highest) having 14. For a lot of other characters, enemy magic is supposed to be devastating, especially in the lategame, and the only physical units with high res are the pegasus knights, (who can triangle attack).
Echoes! The hype inside of me is growing and growing I need this game! Characters look gorgeous (and have helmets whaaaat) and stats are discussed I'm ready to start ^0^ Dem res growths tho raaawr lol

Delphea is the best unit on alms route behind mathilda of course because of her speed end strength Stat growth also because she has extremely high resistance when you recruit her. Her speed with the terrain makes up for her poor defense. She can dodge for days been playing echoes and I am not afraid of her dying when I see terrain boosts for me to use. Everyone has 30% or less to hit her and the ring she has let's her live on 1 just in case they do hit

Yes, near the endgame and you'll have them all together for the post-game.
On the subject of growths and Mycen specifically, well, you don't get Mycen until very late in the game with bases that carry him through most of the main game. As for growths in general, the original Gaiden's growths were really low, and most stat gains were made on promotion, so I'd say that the growths we got now are universally pretty good, old dudes aside. Just thought I'd add my say.
Dean and Zeke are my favorite male designs, Faye and Matilda are my favorite females. I feel like Zeke is going to be an overall fan favorite. Am I the only one who thinks that he looks kind of like a younger Xander?

And is it just me or is everyone terribad compared to Alm and Celica. Like holy crap. I get that they're the lords but they have some awakening-esque growth rates at everything over 50% basically while a lot of people settle for growths at and near 30%
I'm definitely going to use him, but yeah, I recall reading a lot of comments of people trashing him in Gaiden. In this video it was just easy to compare him to Valbar right after considering I mentioned both of their speed growths lol
Don't let the status of pre-promotes dissuade you from using them in this game. They're pretty good.
For example, Mathilda and Zeke are the best horse-units on Alm's route. Clive is kinda average. And any Villager-made Cavalier is... alright.
Yeah, Gaiden/Echoes definitely seems to have taken a different approach to pre-promotes. There are always exceptions, like Wolf and Sedgar in FE11, but usually most pre-promotes haven't been that amazing!
As someone who has only played FE13 & FE14, I am more excited to play this game! I really prefer the classic setting of the games and Hidari's art is amazing! My personal favorites so far are Lukas and Forsyth, I can't wait to use them (despite their stat growths lol)!
Forsyth was my MVP in Gaiden. Especially with that one ring that capped your speed and added 5 mov x)
Out of the 3ds Fire Emblem games, this is by far the one I enjoyed the most.
the growths might be a little diffrent in our version . in sacred stones the Japanese version and American versions had some diffrent growths on units . tho usually the growths only changed about 5 or 10% . I'm just pointing that out .
I'm excited for the pegasus sisters. They carried me through FE3.
It's definitely fun seeing them again, and they will certainly be useful on those Celica desert chapters!

Actually, many people who hacked their 3DS have been playing it. Though yeah, it's unlikely to effect sales.
Catria was actually considered one of the best units in Gaiden (and FE3. And NME). Celica has a lot of desert chapters mid-game, so Catria and Palla got to shine a lot.

I love Delthea's little tooth lol, it adds so much personality to her design. Man, Catria is my favorite out of the Whitewing sisters but those growth rates :/ I'll still use her because you can't stop the bob cut hype train :3

Fire Emblem is my second favorite franchise and I've only played Heroes ;-;
I can only imagine how awesome a real FE game is, with supports, more units, much larger stages, and an amazing story line (looking at you fates)

I'm actually not sure. You'll have both pools of characters by then and plenty of opportunities to grind though. My recommendation would be to use most characters.
So the two armies do come together? Then do you think it is still worth training Catria when you have Clair despite them coming from separate routes?
