What’s the Glory movie about?
After the Battle of Antietam, Colonel Robert Gould Shaw (Matthew Broderick of Godzilla and The Cable Guy) is offered command of the first all-African-American regiment in the United States, the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry. Along with junior officer Cabot Forbes (Cary Elwes of Saw and Princess Bride), Shaw forms a strong and proud unit, including the escaped slave Trip (Denzel Washington of The Equalizer and American Gangster) and the wise gravedigger John Rawlins (Morgan Freeman of The Dark Knight and Million Dollar Baby). Initially limited to little manual tasks, the regiment tries hard to be placed in the heat of the moment.

Some people may think that Shaw was being cruel here to his friend. But Shaw knew he couldn't show favoritism to any of the men under his command, even though I am sure he wished he could have helped him and comforted him. But it wouldn't have been good for discipline...and soldiers' do not treat officer's pets well.
I hope thomas realized that and shaw did still care for him.
And he had to stick it to Forbes for not doing a good job in training them seriously resulting to Mulcahy training them instead after fraternising with Searles after he enlisted.
I always thought Mulcahy was unnecessarily mean as a DI and that Shaw was cold and indifferent. When I got older I realized Mulcahy was trying to make them the best soldiers they could be, and Shaw held them to the same standard white soldiers would have been held to. They all just wanted the best for their men.
"No shame in it son".
RIP Andre! What a performance I remember seeing this as a kid with my father and kind of crying at this part What an amazing actor whoa
This is one of my top ten favorite movies of all time. Sargent Mulcahy is also one of my favorite characters. Specifically when he teaches right from left.
"You bloody Hindus better get this RIGHT!!!" lol
Almost as good as Gunnery Sergeant Hartman's right from left lesson!!
Ahhh, now you’re learnin’ boy-o!
@@p.and.h let him grow up some more.
RIP Andre Braugher 😔
Arguably Edward Zwick's finest hour. Music (Horner), writing (Jarre), cinematography (Francis) are all fantastic. Great work too from Washington, Freeman, Elwes, Kennedy, Braugher. Love this scene as well! Thomas being broken down to build him back to what Shaw needed him to be: a soldier, and Shaw wouldn't accept anything less.
"Let me tell you a wee secret son. The only thing you're to learn to do is to keep your mouth shut!"
He just saved that soldiers life.
RIP Andre Braugher 🙏🏾
Imagine censoring speech in a civil war movie that is based on civil rights war time…
CZcams algorithm. Also so what? Just watch the movie
@@damnationdan5253words hurt you boy ?
Well if it came out today they wouldn’t want a black person in the movie at all so
I love how Searles went from worst soldier to absolute warrior. Aside from the counterstab he learnt, he had inner aggression as shown when he saw his best friend (Shaw) killed. He screamed with an utter vengeance and charged bravely up the fort.
Shaw tells Thomas he must first get permission to speak with him. But Thomas just asked him for permission right there. Shaw could've just said "sure, what's up?"
He was trying to tell Thomas to man up, by asking his proverbial tormentor, Mulcahy, for that permission.
No. What he means is that Thomas has to go through the proper channels, meaning he has notify his direct superior, his unit sergeant or platoon lieutenant, first before coming to the higher commander like Shaw.
Higher ranking officers like Majors and on up can’t be bothered with every issue that the privates under them have.
Shaw’s not being a dick to Thomas, he’s just trying to establish proper military protocol amongst the men, and he can’t do that by showing anything that would appear as favoritism towards any one soldier.
@@hisdudeness8328 makes sense. I guess I didn't understand the proper protocol.
No, he couldn't. It wasn't about his friends. It's about winning a war. He didn't like it. It was not about him.
You’re ngmi
Come on stab not tickle
😆😂
Hit me!!
COME ON!!! You prissy little school-girl!!! You're the worst soldier this whole company-now hit me!
@@jamesoffutt2801 Maybe he forgot to duck.
I don’t know the last attempt could have worked but obviously the Sargent jumped out of the way as he was testing him. I would have ducked too. Great movie.
God damn what an amazing film.
Trip probably needed the lesson about his mouth driven home by the SGM's fist-otherwise a good scene
"No one else in the world is going to take it easy on you. So if I give you a break, then I'm not doing my job. You need to be prepared to deal with people who HATE you and want nothing more than to see you dead. Do you think they'll take it easy on you? Do you think they'll spare you because you're tired or unprepared? No, they'll kill you the first chance they get. It's my job to make sure you get the training to ensure they don't get that chance."
One of The best movies of all time
To whoever uploaded this -
Your Editing STINKS...The BEST scene was about to happen
His face at 1:33 .
He could barely hold it together to say that. But more realistically, he needed to assign one of his friends to suicide watch duty.
So what if he actually stabbed him? Was he wearing body armor just in case?
Damn someone in another video was right, this was the same move that he used right before getting stabbed in the back.
He volunteered. What’d he expect?
Yeah, a true Patriot
why bother blurring out the N-word? It takes away from the authenticity of the film
leave everything in as the filmmaker intended
These guys don't realize that they're being treated the same way the white troops were.
