He presses x twice (or B on controller) to cancel the animation. Formally known as X canceling or animation canceling.

I’m having a lot of fun in this game as a solo sloop using all the rock formations as cover/hideout/ trap etc. all Briggs and gallis hate them if they meet me haha.
