Et af de helt centrale værktøjer i Daniels system er at flytte hænderne ud for at styre skuldrene. Man gør ganske simpelt sine hænder brede, når man mærker at hesten har svært ved at balancere eller styre skuldrene.
Man skal dog være opmærksom på, at man ikke skal ride med brede hænder til stævner, for det er ikke efter forskrifterne.

One of the key tools in Daniel's system is to move the hands out to control the shoulders. You simply make your hands wide when you feel, that the horse has difficulty balancing or controlling his shoulders.
However, you must be aware not to ride with wide hands at shows, because it's not according to the regulations.
