30yrs ago pull ups were so easy on my half spiral staircase, I would put my hands up onto the upstairs floor as I passed underneath and do 20 at a time. Now at 66, after 10yrs of illness, overweight with arthritic hands, err no! Can't do that. (I may try putting a proper bar across so my hands can grip better.)
PS. Now medicated for multiple medical conditions, it took a long time to get all the diagnoses sorted as some symptoms are overlapping, I am now trying to regain my fitness, losing weight is my first priority, so I have changed my diet to a Mediterranean style. Lots more and a wider range of vegetables than I have ever eaten, olive oil instead of butter for cooking, fish a couple of times a week and much less red meat, I eat a lot of chicken cooked in garlic.
I'm also taking walks, as I live in the countryside this is easy. This is good for my lungs, (RB-ILD & emphysema, makes me breathless), heart, (congenital oversized muscle makes me breathless), and my diabetes.
As a motivator if I can lose a significant amount of weight I may start HRT and have some limited facial surgery (blepharoplasty, to rescue my top eyelid), if that's medically possible (I currently take 12 different drugs daily and others as necessary), my research has not found any issues so far that should stop me but I need to run that past my GP. I've always been genderfluid and have thought about transitioning a lot over the last 50yrs, but not being able to find employment always worried me. That now is irrelevant, and any people that might have caused problems have largely passed on or very old. It just a shame that the UK is so institutionally transphobic at the moment, attitudes pushed forward by populist politicians both from the Conservatives and Labour parties (Sunak & Starmer are both dreadfully anti trans, both endorse the Cass report which is a total sham written by a old anti trans woman who helped Ron DeSantis with anti trans legislation and betrays our younger and not so young trans people) as well as prominent public figures like POS Rowling.

good luck in pursuing the lifestyle changes you want to make! thank you for sharing a little bit of your life, it's comforting to see older LGBTQ+ people around 🥰

    • @Dino-1958
      @Dino-1958 Před 4 měsíci

@@ratqueen02 I'm very glad to be even the slightest bit of comfort, there always seems to be those who want to make the lives of LGBTQ+ people more difficult, I have always wanted to live by a simple "live and let live" philosophy when it comes to adults. Although I'm an atheist I do think the bible verse, Luke 6:31 CEV. "Treat others just as you want to be treated." Is a good guiding principle.
Things seem to cycle, it get's better for a while, new rights are achieved like gay marriage, then it all regresses, that seems to happen about every 10/20yrs. However looking back much further, things overall get slowly better over the time, when I was 11 homosexuality in Britain was legalised, the stigma of those years before was still very much around when I left school 5yrs later.
Strangely back then Britain had a proud tradition of men in drag, TV shows by Danny La Rue etc, the scouts yearly Gang Shows had young members in dresses playing women as the were no girls back then in the scouts, it used to be said that British men would find any excuse to wear a frock.
During the Thatcher years there was was the Section 28 clause, a wide sweeping set of rules that stopped the promotion of of homosexuality by local authorities and affected other LGBTQ+ support organisations, until the early 2000s, then Prime Minister David Cameron made his famous "Britain is the best place to be LGBT speech" as gay marriage was legalised in Britain in 2013. Cameron left government when stupid Brexit happened which was like a signal to all bigots to come out the woodwork, Cameron is back now as foreign secretary (he wasn't even an MP, they had to make him a lord so he could take the position,) and strangely silent about LGBTQ+ rights and care which he championed 10yrs ago, and now we have trans people being hounded by Conservative and Labour politicians as well as the mainstream media.
The Cass report is a tragedy for trans people, especially the those under 25 which it was aimed at but it will affect the lives of all ages stirring up more anti trans sentiment in the general public. The fact that the report says trans people 25 and under should be cared for by an extension of the children's trans services within the NHS rather than as adults after 18 is just ridiculous and has no parallel within the health service in any other area of health care. (Imagine the fury now if you were not allowed to be gay until age 25!)
I don't mean to rant on about the Cass report but I think it is going to cause problems for years to come for trans people.
(A quick break for coffee and to pet my tiny pussycat, she's a mischievous 12yr old torty & white longhair who likes to scratch her nose on the corner of my tablet as I type! I do have another cat, he is an enormous 18yr old black moggie with yellow eyes and huge claws and teeth, although he is a very gentle giant. They came as an unrelated pair 9yrs ago from a shelter. This is a very quite rural area and we are just 8 cottages with 8 residents, surrounded by gardens then fields, the cats never wander beyond the gardens here and they mainly stay about 15mtr from the cottage and only go to the end of the gardens where they meet the fields if they walk up there with me, often they are just outside the door - which is wedged open in fine weather - making nests in the Sedge or the Campania and other wild flowers I keep there. Little cat is on the arm of the sofa next to me now purring loudly).
I will just say again, as it is worth noting, that Hillary Cass has previously worked in Florida on reports to help Ron DeSantis with anti trans legislation, she is also a follower/supporter of the LGB Alliance (anti trans hate group) on social media but I can't remember which platform, maybe Twitter. She says she is not anti trans but frankly looking at the report I don't believe her. She actually back pedaled on some major points of the report during questioning but that won't change the report that is being presented to the NHS to follow.
What is really infuriating is that both our leading political parties have said they will implement the report. I expected Conservatives to go along with it it was written for them but Labour are there saying "we hate trans people too" and that they also will implement the findings of the Cass report. The shadow health minister who about a year ago or more said that trans women are women, has now said in a TV interview that he takes that statement back and was wrong. Talk about out Torying the Tories, it's like a repeat of Tony Blair and New Labour but worse. I believe that Sir Kier Starmer (he who was photographed wearing £17,000 designer boots last week) has now said he will not allow trans women to be on the same hospital wards as women born as women, it just gets worse.
I don't want to make this all political but it does matter, I personally cannot vote for Conservative or Labour, I feel they have betrayed their LGBTQ+ supporters of particularly trans people, not surprising from Conservatives but Labour are just hunting the populist vote even when it is unnecessary, they will get in, the Tories have lost the next election, Labour could of just done the right thing, they didn't need to ditch their green policies either. It doesn't make much difference here, as like a lot of English countryside it is very conservative, fortunately it is very lightly populated but what there are is often very bigoted, I voted for the Green Party when Jeremy Corbyn was the shadow PM as he was just unelectable in my opinion, I will probably vote Green again in the next election or perhaps Lib/Dem depending on their policies.
To end on a brighter note though, I have seen LGBTQ+ issues ebb & flow throughout the last 50yrs or more, but it does get better eventually. I'm sure most of the current anti trans sentiment will go away, it just might take quite a while for more sensible views to prevail, but they will, when things get rough then there is always a backlash the other way that changes things in a positive way. I am going keep explaining things like the Cass Report so people know what unfair tactics transphobes are using, the report is pseudoscience at best and throws all known medical research in the bin for the silliest reasons; it should not dictate how our young trans people are treated. Over 99% of trans people are happy about their transformation, this was a report without a problem, the results of gender transition are better than most other medical procedures and therapies. This report was a waste of money and unnecessary, it has already been condemned by respected health organisations around the world, one day that will be seen by all.
Thank you for response, I hope this wasn't too boring.
Please stay safe and stay fabulous!
      💐🦕💃😌🐈‍⬛😼♥️☕🥐🧀🥖🇪🇺🇺🇦🌈🏳️‍⚧️💐
Edit: PS. One thing that was upsetting with Cass, was that Stonewall UK, a supposed LGBTQ+ support group have said they endorse the Cass report and think it should be implemented by the ruling government. I did not know that they were the official mouthpiece for the LGB Alliance (anti trans hate group). Once again I feel betrayed. One thing that Hillary Cass says in her report is that conversion therapy should not be outlawed, this has been deemed a form of torture by various world health organisations. It was meant to be outlawed in Britain but no government ever got round to it, but now Hillary Cass thinks it is valid when used on young transgender people! This is in the report and let's not forget that conversion therapy was used with gays once upon a time as well as trans people, would Stonewall UK avocate that conversion therapy be used on gay people under 25, it can involve electric shock treatment and even worse. Hillary Cass says it would alleviate the strain on the NHS, is that a good reason for torture? Is that a good reason for any incorrect health policy?
