I attended a house show where he performed a couple of years ago. His voice is distinctive, he’s a terrific singer and song writer. He could not have been more kind and gracious to the group of fans who showed up in a stranger’s living room to hear him play.
He’s a gem of a human.
“I don’t listen with my ears. I’m always listening with my heart”. Damn. That hit me hard and I can really identify with that statement when it comes to music.
His passion is real and contagious, his music taste impeccable, this is the kinda guy everyone wants as their best buddy. Thank you Damien, thank you Amoeba.
This guy gave J Tillman, aka Father John Misty his start back in Seattle in the early 2000’s. Fantastic songwriter
I love Jurado. Can you tell me more detail of the story with Misty? I’ve heard that but don’t know the full story or any deets. Thank you.
@@scrappy291 tillmans early band saxon shore opened for jurado when he was touring 'where shall you take me?' .... jurado also covered 'when i light yer darkened door' and talked him up whenever he could
@@seanezekielsmith right on. Thanks.
@@scrappy291 J Tillman also covered Jurado (I can't get over you) and played drums for him around 2005. There is a video from a dutch session from 2005, where Tillman is the drumme r (not on youtube anymore). Tillman also wrote the press sheet for Juraods "Brothers and Sisters" album. Here they perform together in 2008: czcams.com/video/0hor4eBZH74/video.html
This is the kind of person who keeps me obsessed with music. Would want to hang out with him for hours and talk music
One of the greatest if not the greatest What's In My Bags of ALL TIME. Jurado is a treat of a man.
Scott 3 great pick. One of the best singers ever.
And "It's Rainy Today" really, really is one of those songs that makes you stop whatever you're doing. You just sit there in your car upside down and off the side of the highway and listen.
Listening to Scott 4 while driving through Sedona, AZ was a life-changing experience
Damien rules. Been a big fan for a long time. Had the pleasure of FINALLY seeing him live last September. Ghost of David is one of the best records of all time.
I go see him every time he visits The Netherlands. His voice keeps getting better and better. Beautiful.
Just through his sheer enthusiasm, I want to check out all his picks! TY!
i have no clue who this guy is, but it makes me happy that he is so excited to talk about his picks. it's the simple things that really make a great episode.
hes released nearly 20 albums and theres everything from poppy stuff [waters ave s/rehearsals for departure] to experimental/rock n roll [ghost of david/i break chairs] americana/folk [where shall you take me?/on my way to absence/and now that im in yer shadow] to psychedelic [maraqopa/brothers and sisters of the eternal son/visions of us on the land] and his last few albums have a really nice 70s singer/songwriter vibe to them [the horizon just laughed/whats new tomboy?/the monster who hated pennsylvania/reggae film star]
Just discovered this artist from this video. How could I agave not heard of him all this time? Somebody is not doing their job. He must be a critics darling. Where are the articles? His music sounds like many artists were influenced by him. Thank you Amoeba
I agree with Damien 100% about Fugazi. The BEST live band ever!
He says "Do yourself a favour": awesome!
Love Damien's albums. It makes sense that he listens with his heart because that is the way his songs move me. That 'hands on the table' song. Wowzers! This was very cool to watch.
Thank you Damien Jurado for the best Whats in my bag of all time. Cheers!
I love that belly push he used to move the records back
Damien, this was my favorite What's in My Bag, and I've watched them all. Bravo.
Damien Jurado , what a fantastic choice!!!!!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Damien! This was my favorite episode of What’s in my Bag to date. What an amazing selection. I added everything you picked to my Playlist and can’t wait to listen in my car, volume up, feel some things and get goosebumps..maybe even cry a little. How have I never heard that Ritchie Valens song?! Why did I forget about the magic of Fugaze? I choose the songs I listen to by the emotions they evoke in me, and it makes sense that you would, too. I’ve always felt a deep connection to your music. It has had such a profound impact on me and helped me through some very dark times in 2005/2006..and still to this day. I love you and thank you for being there for me through your beautiful art.
This is my new favorite episode!
this one and the episode that jason mantzoukas did are both extremely fun/informative!
What a pleasant surprise! Thank you Damien for your lovely music and thank you Amoeba for this
I'm not surprised Damien has great taste! Love the Scott Walker album!
Thank you Damien, there are some that I don't know and I am impatient to discover. Your music is really original, it resonates up to here in small villages at the end of the world in Madagascar without mailboxes, without cars, without electric posts...
Keep on giving us pleasure.
Te quiero mucho, Damien.
His music is so brilliant, it speaks for itself. But his personality makes your love for him go to an entirely higher level. Such an amazing guy, and awesome choices for his bag.
So glad to see Watertown on here, it's my favorite Sinatra album, and by far his most underrated.
One of my favorite artists ever, giving a shoutout to my fave punk band (Fugazi) is surreal. These guys all deserve to be remembered, just incredible.
It's actually cool that he's into FUGAZI who I grew up with in DC , NOVA area back then , we skated DC all the time. good video.....thanks....
My faith in humanity has just been restored.
I"ve heard of Damien before but damn, never heard any of his music. Seems like a really cool dude. I will have to give his music a listen.
Been a fan since ghost of David ❤️ Thankyou so much for this.
wow. loved this
One of the best episodes of this series ever.
I missed this series so much!! so glad to see these coming back and getting to hear awesome picks of music :)
Great episode and a really great, eclectic selection. I know what-he means when he says he listens with his heart not his head, his choices reflect that.
Damien’s comment about the Doors is spot on. When I listen to them, I always think they are my favourite band. Anybody know bands that sound like them?
There’s definitely hallmarks of The Doors in The Stranglers. The Stranglers were not a psych band but had psych elements - particularly in the keyboards. Dave Greenfield was very open about how he was influenced by Ray Manzarek’s playing.
@@edwardgrant4456 Thanks, I will check out my Best Of Stranglers album today! I was told in the past the Tea Party also sound like the Doors. It surprises me that with a band as good as the Doors that there aren’t bands trying to recreate the sound more completely like GVF with Led Zeppelin and numerous Beatles imitators.
so stoked when i saw this :) :) :)
Love Damien!
Anyone who picks Scott Walker has INSTANT credibility.
I have never heard of this guy before, but wow amazing choices! I am going to have to check out his own work
hes released nearly 20 albums and theres everything from poppy stuff [waters ave s/rehearsals for departure] to experimental/rock n roll [ghost of david/i break chairs] americana/folk [where shall you take me?/on my way to absence/and now that im in yer shadow] to psychedelic [maraqopa/brothers and sisters of the eternal son/visions of us on the land] and his last few albums have a really nice 70s singer/songwriter vibe to them [the horizon just laughed/whats new tomboy?/the monster who hated pennsylvania/reggae film star]
You won’t regret it. A living legend.
One of the best WIMB episodes. Thank you, Damian!
I love your songs Damien.
Such great picks!
Absolutely great picks
Jesus Çhrist..Damien is introducing this audiophile some new Ole Trax. Amen. Aeweba.
What a cool guy! Thanks

Exquisite taste! Love these recommendations.
Pretty eclectic selection. Love his passion and geuine enthusiasm. Thanks Damien and thanks Amoeba!
love Damien's take on music
nice selection and great banter
Holy shit! Thank you for featuring him!
Great picks Damien! Thoroughly enjoyed this one! 🕊
Saw him live in Eugene shortly after places started doing shows again post-covid. It was done in the parking lot of a brewing place, super intimate show.
Awesome episode!
this was great. a real fan of music
luv ya damien!
Adding Damien's picks to my playlists ✌🏽
Wow...Great choice! Ciao from Italy Alessio
Love this dude
Back From The Grave - yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes!!!!!!!!!
Love Damien’s work .what a top guy .Awesome choices as well .love the guy👏👏👏
Love this fellas record picks..
My go to guy. Love al his albums
This is my record collection. Good lord!
Awesome Damien Jurado
This was a great episode. I don't know anything about his music, but I want to be friends with this guy.
Ray Manzarek listened to avant garde jazz genius Sun Ra. The intro for Riders on the Storm is influenced by Sun Ra's Advice to Medics (1958).
Amazingly off-kilter selections, in a good way. Seriously interesting choices. Will have to do some further research! Never been a big Doors fan but his comments on their unique sound is spot on.
merveilleux, monsieur jurado !
oh, j'ai adoré trop ! bravo ! : )
Such great artist. His voice and songs calm me. Great selection. Any one who can create a song like White Center is beyond, well, eh anything. Genius!
Knew he’d have some ace selections ❤️👍🏻
Love the Jessica Pratt shout out!
7:04 lmao glad they got that on camera!
cheers on that Doors
Some epic selections. IMO, highlight being Scott Walker.
Thank you SO MUCH Damien!!! one of THE top WIMB's ever!
The best.........
Don't know how many 1000s of records bought throughout my life but I have only ever bought 2 for the lyrics. As Damien says', you listen with your heart because, I believe, you are feeling the artist's heart. Most of the time it comes down to whether they mean it (maam). Why I always call Kurt a soul singer
Jurado 🙌🏼
Now I know why I love this man so much, "comes from the heart" and he picked up some of the best albums on earth 👍
I absolutely love that Jessica Pratt album it’s so beautiful
Damien jurado is the best all his albums are brilliant 👏👍
Really solid picks
Love the Jessica Pratt choice …. Unbelievable voice
I love the new DJ album, and also that Jessica Pratt album
When the FIRST pick is Scott 3, you know it's gonna be a good episode!
Wait... AND Sinatra's Watertown!? I've always liked Damien's music so I'm not surprised he has great taste, but I underestimated him!
Great picks, helps me understand his music since starting with Richard swift. I met Damien one time and he lit up and shared a cool album with me (ufo by Jim Sullivan)
This was tight.
I have seen every episode of WIMB and I can easily say that this is my favorite one and I don't even like half of his picks (yet). Thanks!
I feel with Damien, I won't be able to sleep for three days either, as soon as I get your invitation.
The kids today must understand how badass The Doors were. By the late 60's their reputation for creating trouble was considered such a threat, while on tour, before the band walked on stage the police were usually already on stage waiting for them. (search old live footage) No band is like that today !!!!!
Great episode. So many connections. I just found out yesterday that Waters Ave. S is getting a vinyl reissue. Also, Scott Walker -> Walker Brothers -> Gary Walker -> Standells and Minor Threat -> Fugazi. Mr. Jurado goes deep. I’m gonna go check out that Sinatra album.
Bob Darin is probably one of the most misunderstood artists of all time.
Who can say “record” the most? Don’t make that a drinking game with these videos. Love Damien. “Am Am” is a gorgeous song.
Genuine Imitation Life Gazette and Watertown has to be the most underrated albums of all time
The Unquiet Grave is a traditional Irish/Gaelic folk song from the 1400s notably sung by Balladeer and folk hero Luke Kelly of the Dubliners. Cecilé's version is gorgeous, thank you for leading me to her Mr. Jurado
That Scott Walker record is so surreal
What a great selection!
So many records he picked that I want to check out. * goes to look at my bank balance*
Damien Jurado seems like a decent dude.
Cool picks! I always think of Pratt as the female version of Nick Drake.
