I feel like this hair style only works with thicker hair. I have baby fine hair. It's long. No matter how much I follow these kind of tutorials, my hair still slips right out. Such an elegant hair style. I wish my hair texture could wear it...
Have you tried a texture spray. I've got fine hair as well and kept having the same issue. The texture spray made a huge difference for me.
Same. If it does manage to stay up, then mine looks super…squished? Tiny? Like it is trying too hard? And pinching and pulling just helps it slip out and doesn’t ever really add bulk.
I agree. Every hair tutorial I've tried of hers makes mine look like a potato 😂😂
@crystalb2908 , I don't put product in my hair. After a few hours it just makes my scalp look oily. My hair texture is pretty limited to a braid of Topsy ponytail.
Try it on dirty hair or even spray some dry shampoo throughout for some grip. I like texture spray too but it can make my hair feel dirty, which I don’t like!

Oh my word, I’ve been doing that with my hair for years!! I have fringe so no face framing. It is my go to when in a bind and crunched for time. Brilliant tutorial! It’s gorgeous on you.

And for neck hump try lying on your back with a yoga block lengthwise between your shoulder blades (foot maybe five minutes a couple times a week). Yours is not pronounced and simply being aware of it is beneficial. Implement strict posture (shoulder blades down with bottom edges aiming toward each other, shoulders basically down and back); chin tucks (slide head back without dropping chin to lengthen the back of the neck…..) (yoga therapist here lol.)

Really easy and also beautiful! With the help of a topsytail tool and little claw clips instead of bobby pins I managed to make this style even with the left elbow in a splint (due to a coronoid fracture). Thank you very much 🙂!

Awesome updo and tutorial, thank you Lainey! I have thin baby hair that’s just below the tops of my shoulders and found these kinds of updo don’t work cause my hair slips out. But found out that if I sleep with dry shampoo in my one or two day unwashed hair undos hold a lot longer. Also found that if I curl my hair before putting it up, on top of sleeping with dry shampoo the night before, it gives my hair enough texture and some volume that lasts through the entire event and then some! Sometimes will add a wee bit of good ole hairspray but only on the areas where I know my hair tends to slip. Lastly I have light-medium brown hair and found that the majority undo’s look almost 100% better on people with blonde hair.

Oh, and the neck lump - it's probably from too much forward head posture. Common if you're looking down a lot. If you can sleep on your back, put a folded hand towel lengthwise under the hump and forego the pillow for a while. It's also good to do neck and back stretching and strengthening exercises - doesn't take a whole lot but it helps in maintaining good posture.
I'm growing my hair back out and I was on the search for a messy bun that looks like I actually care what my hair looks like.😅
Though I think messy is great, I hate seeing elastics or pins and I like some sort of balance. This is effortless looking, yet structured and cool! I think it's a style I can rock. Thanks. Awsesome tutorial.

It is very pretty. Wanted to do this so bad, but unlike the title, it really doesn’t seem to work with medium length hair (inches just under shoulders). I would need fairly long hair to pull this off.
