In May 1989, I was backpacking around New Zealand and met someone I've never been able to forget. We were staying in the same hostel for a while and talked and laughed so easily together - and one evening when I was feeling really down, he found me crying and spent two hours calming me, encouraging me, helping me make plans for the next country I was going to ... but he didn't even sit beside me - he stayed on the other side of the room. I was convinced he found me really unattractive, and managed to hide my feelings for him ... and then, a week later, we had both moved out of the hostel. He didn't say goodbye - one day he'd just gone. Subconsciously, I've always been hoping to find someone exactly like him, but I've never felt that connection with anyone else. Even made a disastrous marriage (now over), thinking I might as well marry than stay single. But every time I hear this song, particularly in May, I think of him.

This is such a beautiful song. I'm an African American female who belongs to a social club. They have played this song there for a very long time. It is so soulful, that I always assumed it was an African American who was singing it! LOL! I found out it is sung by Van Morrison since I have been coming to CZcams. No disrespect to him.
