LUMI Meets Prophet 6 (Poly Aftertouch, Per-Key Pitch Bend) // 5 Short Compositions

  • I paired the LUMI Keys MIDI Controller (Roli) with the Sequential Prophet 6 analog synth (which now supports MPE) and performed a few short compositions using this combo. The LUMI's polyphonic aftertouch and the ability to pitch-shift every key separately makes the Prophet 6 feel like an entirely new, way more expressive instrument - I found these new dimensions really inspiring. Big thanks to Roli for sending me the LUMI to try out.
    All tunes and sounds performed live, no overdubs or sequences:

    The following occurs in human mind if there is the attempt to have an understanding of that double-keypad-fingerdrumming skills GLASYS share with us:
    LUMI is the final answer why there are chromatic tones. Maybe the secret behind all of music. RGB lighting is the key of all keys and scales. Three colors in every screen - three kind of half tones. The hidden link between video games and music. All is connected ... thus GLASYS' finger pads looks like arcade controller buttons. Why his workstation is called "Prophet"? LUMI -> light -> enlightenment -> transcendence. Little hints which points at one direction: Obviously the revelation of the mystery behind reality itself. Like quantum entanglement between gaming and composing. Gaming is Composing. Colors are tones. Why Zelda's Hero is called Link. Because this is the "link" ... ;-D! All the best and thanks for sharing :-)!

    Love the Proggy bits.........Question: I'm looking at the idea of using Lumi Keys, but only as a MIDI controller......I haven't been able to get any real contact or info from Lumi or Roli. Can you shed some light on this? Are you controlling your Prophet with the USB C cable, and a MIDI Host or Hub, or are you running it through a computer to get that connectivity?

    Thanks for sharing this! Love the sounds. I own a Prophet 6 and I’m considering replacing it with the desktop version for touring. It seems kind of crazy to own 2 prophet 6’s. My only hesitation is I really love the prophets keyboard. How does the Lumi stack up to the prophets keyboard? Would you ever consider 2 Lumi’s as a good replacement for the prophets keyboard?

    • @GLASYS
      @GLASYS  Před 2 lety

      Hey Devan! I've also been thinking of replacing the full P6 with the desktop module actually. Lumi isn't the right replacement for the P6 keys though. For one, you need a computer to use it (USB only). Also, it has mini keys with a very different feel, and no mod/pitch wheels. It's fun as an addition, not a replacement IMO

    • @GLASYS

      I don't mind smaller keyboards, I kinda enjoy working with limitations. But yeah, 2 octaves is very small. You can connect several Lumis and make it bigger though, it's a pretty cool concept
