LUMI Meets Prophet 6 (Poly Aftertouch, Per-Key Pitch Bend) // 5 Short Compositions

- I paired the LUMI Keys MIDI Controller (Roli) with the Sequential Prophet 6 analog synth (which now supports MPE) and performed a few short compositions using this combo. The LUMI's polyphonic aftertouch and the ability to pitch-shift every key separately makes the Prophet 6 feel like an entirely new, way more expressive instrument - I found these new dimensions really inspiring. Big thanks to Roli for sending me the LUMI to try out.

The LUMI has no right being this beautiful 😍 loved the compositions too! :)
Thanks brother! It definitely is a cool looking controller :)
I can tell it's you playing, you have such an unique style and you love your classics! It never gets old to me Gill! Keep on playing mate! It's mental...
Thanks Szymon, that truly means a lot! Really appreciate you sticking around and being so awesome!
2:21 needs to be in the next album or a single or SOMETHING because that gave me so much joy listening to it for the first time
Thanks so much Cave Ghost! Glad you enjoyed it! ❤️🙏
That funk jam was wild!

Your midi art brought me in but this stuff is why I subscribed. Please don’t stop making amazing content like this! I beg you!
Hey Michael thanks so much, I appreciate the sub and support! Will definitely be posting more vids like this - I have a lot planned for 2022, including live streams starting next week (hopefully). 😀🙏
The following occurs in human mind if there is the attempt to have an understanding of that double-keypad-fingerdrumming skills GLASYS share with us:
LUMI is the final answer why there are chromatic tones. Maybe the secret behind all of music. RGB lighting is the key of all keys and scales. Three colors in every screen - three kind of half tones. The hidden link between video games and music. All is connected ... thus GLASYS' finger pads looks like arcade controller buttons. Why his workstation is called "Prophet"? LUMI -> light -> enlightenment -> transcendence. Little hints which points at one direction: Obviously the revelation of the mystery behind reality itself. Like quantum entanglement between gaming and composing. Gaming is Composing. Colors are tones. Why Zelda's Hero is called Link. Because this is the "link" ... ;-D! All the best and thanks for sharing :-)!
Haha DUDE you get an award for most creative comment. 😂
Gotta re-read that 3 times now lol. You're awesome, thanks so much!
Dope. Best use of a Prophet i've ever seen
rocking those 2 octaves
Thank you for the compliment my friend! Really appreciate it! 🙏😊
My ears needed those, thanks 👍
So glad you enjoyed it, thanks so much! :)
This is just unbelievable 🤯
Thanks so much Chroma! 🙏
Baby, you were born to run! What you give is always a joy.
Awesome, I like the proggy stuff!
Thanks! Really glad you enjoyed it! :)
Man I can't stop watching your videos. You're so goodddd
Thanks Sotoro! Appreciate you watching 😊🙏
That’s so cool! I’ve always wanted key-vibrato too! I really dig this pieces.
Thanks so much Steve! Appreciate the kind comments :)
Incredible! What I really love about your playing is how I can really feel the classical background. Most people players have a jazzy feel when they are soloing and yours just feels so unique that really inspires me
Thank you Bitclef! That really means a lot to me. I grew up with classical music and it's an inseparable part of me, I appreciate you noticing that 🙏 :)
ohh no wonder there was just something different about his composition
Um huge yes!
Great stuff Gill! Loved you on the virtual Todd shows too (we caught the Seattle, Los Angeles, and San Francisco shows. Beautifully done!).
Thanks Earl! That tour was an oasis in this year long desert :)
Amazing stuff
Thank you! I appreciate the kind words 🙏😀
Wow, nice "meeting" of these two 👍 Great idea, thanks!
Thank you! Appreciate the kind words! :D
Beautiful, man.
Thank you Tom! Appreciate you being here my friend, hope all is well :)
Absolutely lovely. Final Thoughts really resonated with me. Is there anything the Prophet can't do?
Thanks my friend! The Prophet has everything I love in an instrument - simple architecture, gorgeous tone :)
obviously the music is brilliant as always (loved a little bit funky especially), but what a beautiful device, too.
Thanks dude! It is very pretty to look at, and I love how customizable the colors are
Perfect timing - I just got my Lumi 😁
That's awesome! Enjoy! :)
Beautiful aurally AND visually!
Thanks so much Grant!
That second track was soooo funky love it!
Yeah that was my favorite part too. I love funky slap bass type music.
Thank you! I don't do funk stuff that often but I really enjoy it when I'm in the right mood 😄
Pretty cool. :)
Nothing weird about prog!! Love your work brother I want one now
Well, I think most people find that kind of music weird haha. But I was only joking. :D
Hope you've been well brother!
I GOT UP AND STARTED DANCIN ON THE FUNKY PART
Haha that's awesome Kent! Glad you like it dude :D
how did you connect the lumi and the prophet? direct midi connection?
Usb from Lumi to computer, MIDI out from audio interface to Prophet
@@GLASYS thanks! this means there is no way to use the keys direct connected to a usb midi host ? just in combination with a pc or ipad?
@@frausein I believe you need a computer, yes
Fancee!
*huge round of applause is heard*
Haha thanks so much 😀
Funk was funky.
Thanks dude! :D
👏👏👏
It's pretty, and vibratory...
So you bend notes by pulling the keys side to side? That's a sweet little piece of kit. I hope that it lasts, I have to imagine such sensors are gonna be touchy! Great jams :D
Yes exactly! It's what I always wished a keyboard could do. I hope they make a full sized key version.
Thanks dude! :)
The proggy stuff reminds me a lot of that album I told you before from Rick Wakeman!
You should check it out, because I know you would love it!
Cheers!
Thanks Daniel! It's def on my list of music to check out! Thanks for the recommendation :)
Love the Proggy bits.........Question: I'm looking at the idea of using Lumi Keys, but only as a MIDI controller......I haven't been able to get any real contact or info from Lumi or Roli. Can you shed some light on this? Are you controlling your Prophet with the USB C cable, and a MIDI Host or Hub, or are you running it through a computer to get that connectivity?
Hey thanks! I don’t believe you can use LUMI without a computer, though I may be wrong. I connected it via USB to my laptop and either USB or DIN to the P6 (can’t remember)
Thanks.....as it turns out - it IS possible (just heard from another user)......thanks for taking the time to respond......All the best.....(from a cold, white area in remote Canada)
Played at 0.5x speed an epic movie soundtrack emerged!!😁
Haha that's awesome! Never tried that :)
Thanks for sharing this! Love the sounds. I own a Prophet 6 and I’m considering replacing it with the desktop version for touring. It seems kind of crazy to own 2 prophet 6’s. My only hesitation is I really love the prophets keyboard. How does the Lumi stack up to the prophets keyboard? Would you ever consider 2 Lumi’s as a good replacement for the prophets keyboard?
Hey Devan! I've also been thinking of replacing the full P6 with the desktop module actually. Lumi isn't the right replacement for the P6 keys though. For one, you need a computer to use it (USB only). Also, it has mini keys with a very different feel, and no mod/pitch wheels. It's fun as an addition, not a replacement IMO
Extended version of number 3 please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Glad you like it Derek! Thanks dude :)
Cool compositions. Whats the keyboard on the left?
Thanks! That’s a custom built controller
UNBELIVEBLE
when u walkin
the Expressive-E Osmose has competition then
I can't wait to try the Osmose! Looks amazing. But it's nice to have options :)
What is the other controller with the red buttons??
Thank you! It's a custom built midi controller. The keyboard portion is an Akai LPK, but the rest is custom (created for me by Moldover).
@@GLASYS oh no!! Spent like an hour searching for these keys, and just found this comment 😄😭 sounds fab though, subscribed
@@eva.mashtaler thank you! Sorry about that 😄🙏
Please recommend a keyboard piano model for learning and practicing!
Any keyboard with full sized keys, there are tons of options. Go to a store and see what looks good to you within your budget :)
2:21
to the single person who disliked this please revoke your breathing privileges
Haha it's all good my friend, I would never expect every person to like what I do. Appreciate your support :D
If this works on Rev2 as well, I may be forced into it!
I don't know if Sequential has released an MPE update for the Rev2, should be easy to check! It really opens up new worlds of possibilities :)
Could you add Persona 5 to your pool for "From Scratch?" It's a super distinct style, I think it'd be really interesting and educational
That's a great idea! Thanks
I keep thinking about the timing @2:19
That whole tune is pretty loose tempo-wise, I didn't practice it to a click so it fluctuates a bit but I kinda liked the rawer vibe for it :)
@@GLASYS It's like you're idling at a stop light and the car next to you rolls forward a bit and so you stomp the shit out of your brake pedal because you think you're rolling backwards and for a split second you feel that special kind of disorientated. And then the song kicks in all back in time like nothing happened.
@@matt-marque haha I really dig that analogy. Thanks Matt! :)
I can't deal with a piano that doesn't have all octaves, does it ever make your uncomfortable Glasys? I feel like I don't have enough space to improvise.
I don't mind smaller keyboards, I kinda enjoy working with limitations. But yeah, 2 octaves is very small. You can connect several Lumis and make it bigger though, it's a pretty cool concept
